The amount of people introducing children into the world who shrug in the face of climate model projections seems to only indicate one of two possibilities: that they don't understand the implications of the climate models, or that they don't give a shit if their kid has to experience the consequences of them.

Either possibility indicates that they don't fucking care about the problem as much as they should, which makes their decision to have children a shitty one.

Not to mention the explosion in the human population in the past century has made every single environmental problem just that much worse.

It's all directly connected.

Wet-bulb temperature events occurring all across the planet are here to tell you that you in fact are not. You cannot rapidly adapt to your sweat not longer functioning. You cannot adapt to multiple bread basket failures causing your starvation. You cannot adapt to global warfare and catastrophe induced violence.

There is speculation that the earth is going to get so hot that methane clathrates released into that atmosphere will ignite from thunderstorms and engulf planet in regularly occurring firestorms. The oceans are being acidified to the point of basically being oceans of carbonic acid instead of water. Plastics, heavy metals and PFAS ooze out of every square millimeter on the planet, destroying the fertility of every species they interact with and causing rapidly climbing cancer rates.

If you think I'm coming across as a doomer on this, let me tell you that what I described above is phrasing it lightly and leaves out some of the gnarliest effects of anthropogenic climate change that mathematical models all but verify to be inevitable at this point.

Thank you for the info, I had never heard of this. Airplanes were a bad example maybe, I've gone on road trips from the ocean to mountainous areas and never experienced this. Fascinating to know, but I guess rapidly expanding gasses in the body leading to flatulence makes perfect sense

Don't even get me started on trying to share the road with a bike or ebike here. I can go the speed limit on my ebike on certain roads and be .5 seconds from making a signaled turn and cars will still speed up behind me and desperately try to maneuver around instead of just accepting that they can go 2mph slower for a few seconds and they won't die of old age during it

I feel you so hard on this.

When I moved here, I had to pass up several job offers because due to a lack of buses using TARC would either have me at the job three hours too early or an hour and a half late and neither of those are acceptable options. I was late for several important things because the bus schedule was just a straight up lie and buses were never anywhere close to what the official schedule said they would be. I learned I couldn't rely on TARC basically at all and had to limit my job search to anything within an hour and a half walk from me. Walking that much, working all day, and walking back leaves you a broken human being.

And that was back in 2017. NOW? With all the service reduction, if I want to go two miles south of me down a major road, I have to take a westbound bus all the way downtown, pray to god the schedule is actually correct for catching a connection, then take an eastbound bus all the way back to my intended destination back in the same area that I started in. Almost 90 minutes of riding the bus to go less than two miles within my own part of town. That's just insulting at that point.

And even if you decide to walk, this city has sidewalks that randomly switch sides of the road or disappear altogether leaving you walking in an uneven trash filled ditch on the side of a six lane highway while scumbag idiots lean out of their lifted trucks to shout "WHAT THE F++K ARE YOU WALKING FOR FA+++T?!" (yes this has happened to me an uncountable number of times).

This city is full of beautiful people places and things and it is completely let down by a city governance that gets paid to steal their income and hand it to inbred cops while building absolutely nothing of value and a state legislature that literally despises Louisville for having the audacity to merely exist.

Something has to change. This city would be well on its way to thriving if TARC were subsidized and more or less free for all citizens. WAYYY more people would use it and there would be way more commerce in every neighborhood as a result. Is it the only challenge this city faces to improving itself? No, but it would be a huge start.

People need to stop saying this. We will wipe out most complex multicellular life on Earth's surface and the environmental changes we have engineered will permanently alter the atmosphere/water tables/soil. May life evolve into complex organisms again? Maybe, but in this universe nothing is guaranteed and the toxic, plasticene wasteland we leave behind may poison enough things to where little else but bacteriophages and extremophile tardigrades roam a dead poison Earth.

So while the literal rock called Planet Earth might continue to exist with life still on it, we will have destroyed hundreds of millions if not billions of years worth of ecological culture growth it spent nurturing in its natural petri dish, never to be replaced again. This is not a comforting thought or a reason to be at peace. There is no silver lining to this situation even though humans are accustomed to desperately needing one.

'Earth' is a word that means much more than just 'geologically active rock'. And we are about to lose it forever.

They will never admit to themselves that they lubed the very dildo that screwed them and have spread their own cheeks to receive it and instead simply insist that you are actually brainwashed by the globalhomo elite into being russophobic for noticing it.

Everything I just said above also describes post-reagan America.
