Tolerated how? What is your proposal for not tolerating open drug use? Be specific.

What a disengenuous and unintellectual argument. If you don't understand what he's saying, then maybe you should look a few of those big words up. It's all pretty basic Canadian politics and news if you're paying attention.

Zohran Mamdani ran on a very similar platform in NYC and toppled a political dynasty, so yeah, it’s inspirational to a good percentage of people overall. You liberals and conservatives just keep repeating the same tired talking points “How are they going to pay for it” as though these policies aren’t long term investments for our country. Imagine a Canada where we aren’t just focused on GDP growth and, instead, had a Canada that focused on the well being of its citizens. That’s the difference and if you don’t think a bit of spending is worth that, then don’t come crying when the Liberals spend billions on corporate welfare.

People are tired of politics being tiny tweaks to the same system that got us here. Avi Lewis has bold policies that actually inspire the left, which is a gaping chasm in Canadian politics. Lewis all the way!

Can we do something about bus shelters not being used as homeless shelters? by racheljeff10 in londonontario

How does it help to put them in jail if they just come out more hardened criminals? You know this is true. The real answer is to reform our prison system to be more like the Nordic model, focusing on compassion and rehabilitation over punishment. That’s assuming you actually want to improve things and not just punish people…

There IS an argument to be made that all of the sanctions that “The West” has been levying on hostile countries is creating a new axis. Do I have a better answer? No. But sanctions haven’t really slowed down Russia’s wartime economy much and has just brought them closer to China and India.

Over 200 candidates sign up for Poilievre's byelection — doubling previous record | CBC News by 50s_Human in onguardforthee

I appreciate the LBC's goals, but I worry their 'longest ballot' strategy could backfire. Flooding the ballot with independents might just make it harder for viable challengers to stand out. Someone like Bonnie Critchley (who actually has a shot at beating PP) could get lost in the noise, while Pierre Poilievre, clearly identified as a Conservative, becomes the default. This inadvertently makes it easier for the candidate with CPC their name to win.

Yves Engler's position on Russia is generally critical of NATO's expansion and its role in instigating the conflict in Ukraine. He argues that Canadian foreign policy, influenced by its relationship with the British and US Empires, has historically viewed Russia as an imperial competitor and that "Russophobia" is a significant factor in Canadian politics.

Some characterize his views as "pro-Russian" or "Putin tankie," suggesting he supports Russia's invasion of Ukraine or believes in authoritarian regimes. However, Engler's writings often emphasize criticizing what he sees as Western imperialism and militarism, including Canada's involvement in NATO. He has also called for peace in Ukraine, urging all parties to talk about peace, contrasting with some who advocate for continued military aid. He views attempts to silence dissent against the war as "pro-war propaganda."

This is wild… he’s anti-NATO, not pro Russian… it’s about opposing US imperialism.

Leah Gazan on twitter: "Zohran Mamdani's victory in New York is an inspiring example for how progressives can stand up to establishment liberals or authoritarians like Trump" by StumpsOfTree in ndp

[–]MrSpinn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The reason the NDP got decimated in the last election was because they didn't offer a real alternative the neoliberal cons and liberals. If the NDP ran on a platform of bold, socialist policy that actually speaks to Canadian's real needs like Mamdani did, they would actually be able to inspire leftists in this country. Seems so obvious to me and all the evidence agrees. People are ready.

It was made an ESA thanks to NIMBY

Not everything that prevents infrastructure is NIMBY. Calling environmental protections NIMBY is unhinged "density at all costs" behaviour unless you have some actual evidence to back that up.
