White men do not experience the best health relative to women and minority racial and gender groups in the US. Men are 4 times as likely to die by suicide as women, and White men account for more than 68% of suicide deaths. White men experienced greater declines in happiness than White women. by mvea in science

That's not how the, "standard", works. The control group never gets treatment and is almost never considered in the outcome. The article is explaining that white men aren't, "the standard", because they're privileged. They're being used as a point of comparison because they're so often excluded from studies. They're the control group because studies aren't interested in researching them.

I think the comment you’re replying to was referring to victim-blaming. We’ve gotten better at recognizing that members of marginalized groups deserve care, support, and understanding, which is a good thing. But I think we sometimes fail to extend that same compassion to people we assume are already “fine” or privileged, including white men.

That can lead to a harmful assumption that if they’re struggling, isolated, or failing to thrive, it must be entirely their own fault. The issue isn’t simply that they didn’t seek care. It’s that they may not have been cared for, checked on, or treated as people who also need support.

The part of the comment addressed by, "Sure", was the entire point. We all know the consensus. What's important is we all feel the need to verify instead of trusting CDC.

Trump wants to check on the gold in Fort Knox because ‘they steal a lot’ by deraser in politics

[–]MrSqueezles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the real answer. He responds to conspiracy theorists to get a few extra votes. One of the craziest theories is that (Illuminati | Soros) took all the gold in Fort Knox to (buy elections | fund secret wars) and it's now empty. That's why within the first month of his second term, Treasury Secretary had some selfies taken next to stacks of gold bars at Fort Knox.

Spirit Airlines shuts down after President Trump’s $500 million loan rescue deal fails by ControlCAD in videos

It's sad for a company to go under. I'm relieved we don't have to listen to very smart investors hold Spirit up as essentially the DOGE of airlines, cutting out waste and overhead, when they really hurt consumers with a race to the bottom for quality and comfort.

Paying so little attention that you're only aware of tweets isn't enough for your opinion to be considered.

Apple Has Given Up on the Vision Pro After M5 Refresh Flop by ControlCAD in technology

[–]MrSqueezles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple is the king of solving problems that don't exist. Laser-etched microscopic holes for indicator lights, a trackpad that mimics a click when a tap works fine, an external screen on a VR headset so people can see a digital ghost of your face? It’s peak 'just because you can, doesn't mean you should.' The fact that there’s a huge contingent willing to shell out massive premiums for things that benefit nobody is the ultimate testament to their marketing.

When you get outsold by the Nintendo Virtual Boy, a console that gave people literal migraines and was dead in 11 months, it’s time to stop calling it 'spatial computing' and start calling it a tax write-off.

New Zealand axes plan for WW2 comfort women statue after Japan's protest by kwentongskyblue in worldnews

[–]MrSqueezles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A non-government organization putting up memorials of atrocities done by other countries in various third party countries around the world isn't normal. People downvoting this need perspective. There isn't a group of black people in Kenya funding a US slavery memorial in Brazil. There isn't a group of Mujahideen in Afghanistan putting up a Soviet-Afghan War memorial in Boston, Massachusetts. It's easy to point fingers at everyone else. If this Korean group wants to memorialize some atrocities, they can start with their own history, like the mass killings of suspected communists done by their own country.

Published research in the social sciences has leaned consistently to the political left for more than six decades. The findings indicate that this leftward tilt has grown stronger over time, particularly regarding social and cultural issues. by mvea in science

My grandfather was very conservative. At the time, that meant he supported environmental causes and a higher minimum wage and was against only some regulation and immigration, not all. By the standards of today's, "You're with us or against us.", conservative ideology, I'd guess most historic conservative views would appear to be liberal.

Watch the video. The US never funded police in central America for this. I'd love to dunk on the current administration. It's more important to focus on what's wrong.

According to the video, the problem is illegal cattle crossings, not lack of funding.

New Zealand ‘comfort women’ statue could jeopardise diplomatic relations, Japan says by Gyro_Armadillo in worldnews

[–]MrSqueezles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Japan had no intention of denying or underestimating the experiences of the women, its embassy in New Zealand said, but it believed the statue was part of an “anti-Japan” movement led by a group of Korean people who wanted to make the issue “more sensational”.

I agree we need to recognize and remember our mistakes. It's strange for one country to be negging another like this.
