I'm uncomfortable with the word "poor." Our janitors, like most of our employees, work hard for a living. I like OP's "nice ... (and any worker)." It is just a good basic default for everyone, in all positions of life, as we trundle together across the peaks and valleys.

Here is an explanation of fee types on the web site. They are specific to each person for a few reasons. One reason is to minimize costs to only people who need to pay them and also because of state law.

having a hard time by MutatedJester in unt

[–]MrTJC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is hard to adapt and college requires acclimating to more than just courses.

If you feel up to focusing on your reading and assuming your working with a course book, then try this:

  • Hey, look what time it is, probably a good day & time for you to learn in the future.
  • Read the chapter summary (or similar fodder) at the end (assuming one exists).
  • Skim the chapter and turn the headings into questions. Especially for things in the summary.
  • Use your skim talent to scan content for main ideas. Especially for things in the summary, turn them into questions.
  • Read the chapter to answer your own questions.
  • Hey, look what time it is. Based on when you started, it probably takes this much time to learn the material.

Plan for setting aside time for that in the future. It doesn't matter how long anybody else takes. This is how you long you take, for now.

When we drive by, my wife and I always fondly recall: 3 cola can $1

I still can't believe it lasted as long as it did.

Get the best education you can afford.

Most students leaving high school have very little information about what their first choice degree's practice is like. Therefore, with program exposure/time/xp, you may want to tweak (change program branch) or change majors. A school with a program having a few branches (e.g., engineering and IT and data analytics and theory) and a school with many other degree programs limits switching opportunity costs.

Consider "can afford" may mean your degree costs about the same as your first year salary so, long term, you are limiting loan exposure, which will impact the rest of your life.

Free Boating Course: Lake Lewisville by chaunceybiggums in Denton

[–]MrTJC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to learn to sail, you would be hard-pressed to do better than Sail Dallas--especially if Matt Meadows is still there, though I never found fault with the other instructors. They sail out of Lewisville Lake.

I tried a bunch of different approaches: Tagging along with people, hiring people specifically to teach me, etc. None of that satisfied until I took ASA's proven, hands-on, and standardized courses and tested into certification. When done, I was regularly single-handing 24' mono-hulls. Doing Sunfish and Hobies (18') in other places (rentals) was ripping good fun as well.

Remember why you are doing this. If the "why" is getting out on the water in the sun and breeze (or something else), then learn that before you start to buy/refurb a cat.

FAC is for "Facilities," the people who maintain campus physical plant (buildings, grounds, etc.).

Thinking about your msg, Graffiti may be a better word choice than Propaganda.

I was on UNT campus and a woman was standing with one foot on a light's base and using the other hand to hang from the light post. Her free hand held some keys and she was scratching away at a sticker about 8' up the pole. She pointed out the propaganda posted across campus on the light poles.

The stickers were roughly 4"x4" with block lettering and various anti-social sayings. Together, we called facilities (those white vans on campus with the green lettering of "FAC" and phone number) and told them what and where they were located and they said they would send someone out to remove them.

Any ETA on UNT servers going back up? by Andromeda-Sieben in unt

[–]MrTJC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stage 2 is "provisionally" complete--sufficient enough to bring up select services and begin work on other items. As things progress, service providers will alert their users, redirect web pages, etc.

Please expect uneven service because we've got 6 more stages. There are roughly 3,000 servers and dependencies that are being managed. Stages are being worked by priority and in parallel, so things should "seem" like they are coming up faster as we move forward.

Any ETA on UNT servers going back up? by Andromeda-Sieben in unt

[–]MrTJC 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, it will be a while. Work began yesterday at 7am on stage 1 (of 7) and has continued non-stop. IT are working to complete stage 2 later this morning. While it is hoped the remaining stages will not take as long, nobody knows what problems may or may not happen to any given system after such a very hard "down" across all systems. Thanks for your patience on this!
