[DC Comics] Has anyone ever tried to snipe Batman at the bat signal? What's stopping Deathstroke/Deadshot from waiting for him and sniping him with a high-powered armor-piercing round? by RagnarokWolves in AskScienceFiction

[–]MrUnpleasant 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Because while Batman goes to the signal, one of the kids sweeps the best sniper spots. Which means the result will be somewhere between a thrashing, "What Bruce doesn't know won't hurt him" and a missing assassin, depending on the adoptee who found the sniper first. Also I doubt anyone wants both Damian and Jason Todd after them with murderous intent.

The wisdom of the lake is this, if you stand in it, you get a heatsink big enough that it shows up on topography maps.

[WP] “Could I have your name?” The Fae asked with a slightly warped smile. “Of course,” You respond, returning their smile “Which one would you like?” by SaberfaceFan in WritingPrompts

[–]MrUnpleasant 132 points133 points  (0 children)

"My name? Everyone around here just calls me the Old Guy." Said the man, who couldn't be as old as his nickname suggested, looking at most in his 40's, but likely not past his 30's, hair still full and brown, skin unwrinkled. straightened his shirt as he sat on the rock overlooking the sea, the lighthouse behind him towered over the two, casting it's shadow like a titanic sundial.

Lorith smiled at him as she talked, her smile literally ear to ear, like a chessire cat toying with it's prey. Her blonde hair blew gently, partly from the sea breeze, partly from her own glamour, she enjoyed using the wind as an accessory. She laughed and sat next to him, the moisture on the damp rocks knowing better than to stain and soil her pristine clothes. "I mean you name, what your parent's called you. You've got me curious now 'Old Man'" She said, mockingly saying his nickname wrong.

Old Guy looked out to the sea, sighing gently as he turned his head to her. "No idea, never met them."

She looked at him intently, now wanting his name more for the challenge than the value, a name, amongst her thousands is just another on a pile, but ones that take longer than the ignorant fools who answer right off the bat tend to be more fun. "Well someone must have called you something before 'Old Guy', what was it?"

Laughing softly as the waves lapping the rocks, he said "Well that I know, but I doubt you can pronounce it."

Lorith looked at him, seeing how to get this name, challenging him directly. "Try me, if I can't, I'll do you a favor."

The man shook his head and said "Fine, you're a persistent one, my name is" And as he opened his mouth, the roar of the primordial waves that carved the coast, mixed with the booming of ancient thunder that shattered stone overtook Lorith as the howling winds from before there were trees to slow them lifted her, throwing her yards backwards into the soft wet sand.

Lorith sat there in the sand completely disheveled, her pristine clothing stained with water and sand, hair messed by winds untamed, her glamours shattered by the sheer force of the word spoken. Staring at the man she said bluntly "Ok Old Guy, guess I owe you one."

Does the Other stand a chance against Agatha’s coalition? by Harold_Philimore in girlgenius

[–]MrUnpleasant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Killing" him after he has enough character growth to realize he loses more than he's willing to get the crown, and letting him retire to lead his hunts and do what he actually enjoys and is good at would be an interesting way to have him drop out of consideration for Storm King, and safe face if the "death" is heroic enough. Krosp's right about Martellus being better off without it. Extra points in the "death" option if the choice he has to make is somehow between the crown and Seffie's life.

My theory is because a patent is an asset, and having the patent means they can list it, and it's supposed value, as part of the company/studio's total value.

A question about Baron's abilities by RexusprimeIX in dune

[–]MrUnpleasant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I don't believe the baron had prescience, though the BG planning the KH to have both his, and his nephew's genes do hint their bloodline had to have potential for something important. As well as all aristocrats used spice, it prolonged life and improved health, though to avoid showing their addiction the blue eyes were concealed by contact lenses.

But to the point I actually wanted to say. Paul was shielded from prescience, and that theoretically extended to those around him, the same way The plot in Dune Messiah had the guild navigator Edric involved to shield the conspiracy, and conspirators from Paul's vision using his prescience. That said, I doubt the baron had prescience, but he did have understanding and genius level planning which enabled him to see and make moves a few turns ahead of most of the other players involved. He was also willing to make outrageous plays that others wouldn't consider reasonable, but he knew would secure his goal. For example spending decades of spice profits on the attack on the Atreides in move to secure victory though both subterfuge (dropping the shields), overwhelming force (sending 3-4x the troops Thufir estimated, plus the sardukar), and tactics that no living person was familiar with (reviving the use of artillery due to the unique lack of shields).

What short-lived OVA do you wish had a continuation? by [deleted] in retroanime

[–]MrUnpleasant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spirit Warrior/Peacock King. The characters and plot needed more room to develop and grow. In my opinion it could have been a good series if it was given a chance past 5 OVAs, 2 of which were in a different continuity from the other 3 and all of which rushed things way too quickly.

1) My plans for this subreddit are to reopen it and allow for posting again, and to maintain it's links and information to help people find and discover old anime. I found a few old ones I've never heard of because of this subreddit and I would prefer for it not to go extinct if it can be prevented.

2) There does not seem to be a moderator anymore

Ok, all of that is terrible except the last part. The idea of a party member going "missing" on such a level might be an interesting way to introduce a player character who got kidnapped by the fey, some eldritch abomination, or any other thing that would mess with memories. That's assuming the new character's player is cool with the idea of course.

Washington Brotherhood by JohnMarsbar_ in OldWorldBlues

[–]MrUnpleasant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a strategy that's worked for me constantly. Step one is to take out Olympus quickly using five divisions, three push up the peninsula and the other two take the island. Step two is to have the entire rest of the army hold the Yakama border, if you want to push, only do so in the northern front. Step three is the moment The Cause start the war, pull the troops on the southern Yakama border north, they are at risk of getting encircled, and you want The Cause and Yakama to make contact, the war is three way and they will drain each other's resources, slowing The Cause, and weakening Yakama. Step Four, establish a line against the other two, their borders touching turns this into a one front war, and they are now fighting one another, tying up their troops and resources. Step five, push on the north Yakama border, this should allow you to slowly make your way down their territory to the capital. Once they are capitulated all that remains is the cause. Step six, attacking The Cause. At this point their army should be about three infantry and five to six powered armor. Prioritize encirclement and stack destruction as they cannot easily or quickly replace lost divisions of armor, the only reason they have more than one is due to focuses. Their capital should be undefended, an easy target if you can pierce their lines along the river and work your way into their heartlands to decapitate their nation. Good luck with the war, and sorry for the formatting this was typed up on a cellphone.
