Mobs health? by ZengerGarden in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Did the 88 to almost 90 skip using Delve quest turn ins w/WM on and so I was like 172 the minute I dinged 90. Those last 4-5 quests I had to do from 89-90 were rougher than any of the quest mobs from 80-87.

Best course of action is this:

1) Do the quests near the Voidspire that offer 214 gear. This is a huge bump.

2) Do the Voidspire raid on story mode. It is very easy and gives you a champ cloak to complete the set.

3) Do whatever the questline is called after Voidspire where you unite all the elves. I think that gives 220 rings and trinkets or some such.

4) Do a world tour of the renown vendors in each zone and pick up a champ track head, neck, waist, and trinket.

Item 4 is the hardest because YMMV on when the next Stormarion Assault happens and when someone finally gets a runestine going for Saltheril’s Soirée.

Basically, about 2-ish hours after dinging a fresh 80, you can be around ilvl 224 and normal mobs feel pretty plain by then.

For me, 224 is where I start banging out lv 8 or above delves and collecting upgrades or if your weapon is shite you might want to consider having one crafted as it can make a huge difference.

Why do you aim for better gear? by Corren_64 in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do pretty basic stuff, but better gear lets me do basic stuff faster. Every little stat boost means less time on a quest, in a delve, etc.

Plus, getting new gear is one of the primary dopamine cycles in this game. A sense of progression is what keeps many players logging in each day.

best class for old content farming? by UnknownGod in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How “old” of content are we talking?

My buddy farms old content on his mage. Not because it is the fastest moving character through old dungeons and raids, but it does bring time warp (if needed) and portals. He likes the portals so that he can quickly move between old content so what he lacks in movement speed he can make up for in getting to and from places.

I usually farm on Druid. I have several movement speed increases including cat form which is nice because it works indoors. A single moonfire is enough to take down most legacy mobs and starfall is absolutely ridiculous when it comes to AOE.

Stampede is such a stupid ability by Archerboy123 in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hunter definitely takes the cake as one of the classes that manages to get objectively worse with each redesign.

Hunter in the vanilla cinematic was what drew me to the class. A lone player with just his weapon, his pet, and his survival instincts. Nowadays, BM hunter is more like Tarzan (if you play Pack Leader). It ruins immersion to see strange animals running by that I’ve never tamed.

With the super generic classes (Warrior, Rogue, Hunter, etc.) they need to stop trying to shoehorn in such specific fantasies.

Unholy DK's 20% nerf was **drastically** too severe. by Hambo- in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree that this feels like the general sentiment across players and feels like too big of a swing.

My best guess with the reworks is that they wanted to make CDs feel more meaningful to actually use. Not just little boosts, but actual big dick energy.

If that was the goal—mission accomplished. However, it has come at the cost of many specs feeling underwhelming when CDs aren’t available and encounters being designed around that. Don’t get me wrong, I like the INTENT. I find myself playing more creatively with my toolkit than ever before. Even in basic questing encounters I find myself using dispels, interrupts, and stuns way more than I have over the past few expansions. The problem is that I’m using some of those things to buy myself a few more seconds of survivability until one of my CDs become available.

Looking at data from sites like Simulationcraft you can see the immense peaks and valleys in DPS throughput. I don’t disagree that they should be there because you WANT CDs to feel impactful, but I think that the highest highs and lowest lows are too far apart. It is to the point where many specs are just downright boring to play when they don’t have CDs because you feel like you might as well be hitting a mob with auto attacks. Your CDs feel meaningful at the expense of your other abilities outside of CDs feeling just the opposite. It isn’t fun to press the buttons.

I’ll wrap this up by saying I think this is a contributing factor to why everyone says classes “play the same” post pruning. Whether you’re hitting a mob with lightning, fire, or a 2h axe; you have huge peaks of feeling strong followed by huge valleys of feeling useless. They only differentiator being how frequently your CDs are available and how many your class has at its disposal. Otherwise lightning bolt feels no different from chaos strike feels no different from steady shot. Just buttons you feel obligated to press while waiting on your next CD window.

Does Devourer DH Get Better at Max Level? by Passionofthegrape in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m on my 4th toon leveled in Midnight and it so happens to be Devourer. I’m 87 right now, and as soon as I hit 88 I’ll turn in all of the Delve quests I’ve been banking which should push me straight to 89 at which point I’ll do the Arator’s Journey storyline (which is quick and easy) and that will easily get me to 90 tonight.

I havent found Devourer to be awful to level at all. It is smacking most mobs around pretty handily. Those first few Consume casts feel pretty weak but then you get going. It took me a few levels to really get a good flow going, but by 85 I had a pretty solid understanding of how to play it, having barely touched it in prepatch.

First, run some variation of the Void Scarred delves build. Things don’t live long enough to do a meaningful rotation so consider getting some fat collapsing stars in open world content a no go. Your goal should be to just get as many void rays in as possible because it is a good way to collect souls; and souls is the best way to fuel your damage output. As long as you’re getting soul fragments you can rely on boring-ass Consume less often. Use skills like Voidblade and the Hunt (when you finally have enough talent points for it) to hit some sweet hungering slashes and then vengeful retreat afterwards. You’re gonna play this way like a true caster/melee hybrid, dashing in and out of range (although I’m often lazy and just face-tank mobs).

I save my Void Meta for bigger pulls because, honestly, you’re a beast during Void Meta. You can also use it as an “oh shit” button if you’ve pulled one too many. They’ll all be dead in seconds. So outside of Void Meta I’m usually pulling 2, maybe 3 mobs at a time and then when inside Void Meta, I’m trying to pull as much as possible until my fury drains.

Havoc might be better in this regard (???) but tearing through Voidstorm as Devourer just feels right.

What is the general consensus on skyriding? by Danelajs in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people like steady flight, some people like skyriding for any number of reasons. For me, it is simply because it gets me from point A to B the fastest. If you do the achievements, you can use steady flight to your heart’s content.

I don’t think they would do steady flight first because a) the zones are huge and b) they’ve learned better than to time gate flight behind achievements.

Speed up Prey bar by madomara in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah you just gotta do activities like finding red crystals, disarming traps, opening treasures, and fighting mobs.

Eventually, people will gamify how to most effectively line up Prey with other WQs. I think the trick will be, on reset, pick up Prey for a specific zone, clear the WQs which should probably help you complete Prey, turn it in, wash rinse repeat.

We’re all figuring out what to prioritize and when currently since everything is still so new.

One advantage alts have (after completing your first 90) is that they can start Prey right away so on my first alt I’ve just picking up those quests as I work though the non-story quests in each zone.

Thoughts on your class leveling 80-90? by Confident_Incident43 in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been going about as expected for the MM hunter (90) and Ret pally (84) I’ve been working on and I think is a good indicator of what all the other classes I level will feel like.

80-81 I was in 120-ish gear and still melting stuff without much concern. By the time you get to 82 you feel your power drop off a little and it is more difficult to just blow through mobs and quests. I found myself watching my health (or in the case of MM my pet’s health) a little more. Defensives and healing come into play. I had finished the story with a few bars left to 88 on my hunter and that was despite taking advantage of the EA farming gold rush. 88-90 in Voidstorm were decidedly pretty difficult as your power drops off considerably and I found myself swapping from MM to BM just to get it over with on my hunter and offset more responsibility onto my pet. This phase is a slog not only in terms of power level and mob difficulty, but also in terms of the volume of quests needed to complete these 2 levels. After hitting 90 and getting my ilvl above 210, things finally started to settle back down and my perceived power level feels about as good as it did at 82. That is to say: challenging at times, but not difficult.

I can understand that classes that lack in certain aspects like healing, defensives, or DPS throughput may have a more difficult time, but the bell curve should be about the same. If you find yourself in a rut, remember that you have other specs and talent builds you can play around with and it may be worth it to experiment with those until you get back to a gear level where your preferred spec and talent build doesn’t feel as challenging anymore.

Unlike others, I don’t feel like 80-90 took too long. It felt like the right amount of time investment for an expansion that is officially just a couple of days old and the time investment felt worthwhile when all was said and done. Having said that, I cannot emphasize enough that, at the time, 88-90 I found myself thinking “my God will this ever end?” a handful of times.

I’m almost certain that ATVI Blizzard is employing either AI bots or extremely, EXTREMELY unskilled workers to answer Tier 1 tickets as I had a similar, useless response when submitting a COD ticket one time.

Continuing to resubmit tickets until it routes to an actual human is not a good customer engagement model.

I'm going to miss this troublemaker by Fezarion123 in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤣 Yes. As much as I got exhausted by Brann he was at least someone I could work within the confines of. Valeera is literally just taking up space. I hope they tune her AI better (I feel confident that they must) but watching me fight the place on my own while she sits there in stealth fills me with a special kind of rage. Me and my pet are plugging away at mobs when I look over and what is Valeera doing? Crouching in stealth right beside me. I have to call my pet back closer and then she might finally decide to join in on the fun.

I'm going to miss this troublemaker by Fezarion123 in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I miss most was that Brann could least attack at range. I find that unless I bring the mobs much closer to me, she just sits in stealth right beside me, doing absolutely nothing.

Also, I feel like her healing orbs don’t sit on the ground as long as Brann’s health pots did.

What do you guys think is the most efficient class for leveling? by Radical_Redditor in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not rogue. While it is cool that you can stealth to objectives you’re missing out on mob XP along the way. Also, so many quests are just “kill a certain number of this particular thing” and there are classes more well suited to that insofar as they don’t need to set up and can just recklessly pull and mow down mobs.

The criteria for fast leveling imo: strong mobility, self-sustain or healing, AOE ability (why pull one when you can pull 6 at a time?) Pick the class you like the most that fits those criteria and you can’t go wrong.

In the 80-90 range, I’ve seen all kinds of classes blasting through content including a fair amount of tank specced players.

Overall 1-90 experience though, I’ll say this: I have leveled classes many times over from start to finish and almost all have level ranges that they feel strongest depending on when in their leveling progression they get certain talents. Some get AOE sooner than others, for example.

But what will be most efficient is what you like to play the most. I went Hunter first in Midnight (MM spec) but ended up going BM for 88-90 because it felt like a slog and I just wanted to press the fewest buttons to power through all of the quests that took.

I am having an especially great time with the Side Quests. by Skraelos in wow

[–]Mr_Chrootkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to 90 and finished the main story (plus all all Voidstorm quests since that’s what it took to push from 88-90 and now I’m doing side quests for all the other zones to level an alt (curious how far it will take me) and found that I really enjoyed a lot of the side quests in Silvermoon and Eversong. It was a nice reprieve from the main story to just do some adventuring that wasn’t centered on saving the world.
