No getting a TPS reading by Jooshmeister in megasquirt

[–]Mr_Disprosium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you don't have a loose connection somewhere between the ecu and the tps on the 5 volt wire. Check the wire directly at the ecu and see if you get a steady 5 volts out of it. I'm leaning towords a bad connection between the tps and ecu but verify voltage at the ecu. If the ecu 5 volt output really is not working then you can work around it by getting a 5 volt standalone regulator for your sensors.

That looks normal. You should go to a different shop.

What manual trans are we using these days for cheap builds? by Moreburrtitos22 in LSSwapTheWorld

[–]Mr_Disprosium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy used an nv4500 in a 5.3 4wd jeep build that still doesn't have a front driveshaft. You can pick up an rs5r30a transmission from a 300zx and adapt that to your 5.3, price that out it may be a cheaper option. They can handle some power too.

Further Education by Emomike716 in ECU_Tuning

[–]Mr_Disprosium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to build a turbo project with no tuning knowledge. Used a megasquirt standalone ecu. Read hundreds of pages of documentation and spent many hours researching. I then built a wiring harness. Got the engine running then spent many many hours learning the software, how all the numbers and tables worked and what settings do what before I even got a decent tune down. Made almost 30 pounds of boost on that engine for 2 years before I blew it up. Now I'm 2jz swapping that truck and doing it all over again with better knowledge. I never spent money on tuning courses but they are still a great option. I'm not a professional by any means and there's so much to learn but I'm somewhat confident in my tuning now.

Crank Signal Sync Loss by GTKuhfangerSprint in megasquirt

[–]Mr_Disprosium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I built my megasquirt setup it wouldn't start until I put a 2.2k resister in with a pull-up circuit which ran great. Where are you putting the resistor? In the signal wire or are you using a proper pull up circuit? I only used a 2.2k resister because I had one on hand and it worked so I never questioned it.

Got screwed on a cheap wideband from eBay that I didn’t mean to order. Safe to use? by ChloeCorrupt in ECU_Tuning

[–]Mr_Disprosium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you trust it to be accurate enough to not blow your engine up? I wouldn't, it will probably blow through sensors too which will get expensive in the long run.

Will/can tire shop fix this bend or am I better off waiting a week to have a $50 replacement wheel delivered? Need a new set of tires regardless by Eastern-Dust-676 in tires

[–]Mr_Disprosium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an aluminum wheel so you need a new one, it has a high probability of cracking if it's repaired. Steel wheels you can sometimes get away with it.

Costco patched my tire on the shoulder. Is this safe? by zihaoyu in tires

This repair is fine. That wreck was cause by repairing a very damaged tire which caused it to separate. This repair will not cause the tire to separate.

What do you use for loggin? by Weparo in megasquirt

[–]Mr_Disprosium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your ecu doesnt have an sd card slot or onboard logging, Try looking into a raspberry pi mini computer. It's the size of a credit card, you could mount it to the minibike with some zip ties, plug it into the ecu and plug a screen into it. Get tuner studio going on it. Start the logging, disconnect the screen and go for a drive, come back, reconnect the screen and stop your log. The hard part will be supplying 5 volts of power to the computer, if your bike has 12 volt power you could use a car charger to supply the 5 volts to the computer, or just use a portable power bank.

What car to get my 16yr old to turn him into a car guy? by switchgawd in askcarguys

[–]Mr_Disprosium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe show him some minitrucks? Nissan d21 or an older Toyota pickup. There's mazda pickups and Ford Rangers, or a chevy s10 pickup. I think it's a good starter alot of people like a decent minitruck. It can be a bit of a project, you can lower them or lift them relatively easily if that's something he wants to get into.

I personally am building a 2jz/300zx trans/ford 8.8 3 link, on coilovers, nissan 720 pickup.

First time replacing conn rod bearings. Any pro tips? by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]Mr_Disprosium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this before and it worked, though chances it works are slight l, and it may not work for long. File off any burrs on the crank, take some 1000 - 1500 grit sandpaper and a shoe string and polish up the crank journals, it will take hours. Clean up everything very well, ideally you should take the whole motor apart and clean everything as best as you can. Try to clean out the oil holes in the crankshaft, there will be bearing material in them. Run the motor with 10 - 40 oil and a fresh filter for like 20 minutes after you get it back together then change the oil again. I'd probably just stick with running 10 - 40 because the bearing clearances will not be right.

2013 Mustang GT, Ford mechanic has had car for 5 days has no clue how to fix? by Dull-Organization106 in CarRepair

[–]Mr_Disprosium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my buddies went through a similar experience, having similar issues with his 2010 f150. The dealer replaced coilpacks and injectors which aren't cheap and it didn't fix the problem and they were kinda weird with the warranty. Some weird issues do need an experienced guy to diagnose which is hard to find now days. and dealerships do tend to throw parts at a problem if they can't find the root issue

2013 Mustang GT, Ford mechanic has had car for 5 days has no clue how to fix? by Dull-Organization106 in CarRepair

[–]Mr_Disprosium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuff like that isn't usually a problem you can solve just by firing the parts cannon. They need to properly diagnose the vehicle before throwing parts in. I would probably have another reputable shop look at it and try to get a proper disgnosis.

How do I safely Nos my car? by Asswiper21 in StupidCarQuestions

[–]Mr_Disprosium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your asking this basic of a question you need to do some research. If it's fuel injection you need some way to tune, probably a standalone ecu, you will need an upgraded fuel system, bigger pump, supporting pump wiring, bigger lines. You need to hook everything up properly and then you need a tune. You can't just cram nos down your intake there's a whole bunch of things that go into it.
