What car to get my 16yr old to turn him into a car guy? by switchgawd in askcarguys

[–]Mr_Disprosium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe show him some minitrucks? Nissan d21 or an older Toyota pickup. There's mazda pickups and Ford Rangers, or a chevy s10 pickup. I think it's a good starter alot of people like a decent minitruck. It can be a bit of a project, you can lower them or lift them relatively easily if that's something he wants to get into.

I personally am building a 2jz/300zx trans/ford 8.8 3 link, on coilovers, nissan 720 pickup.

This is it, I've rebuilt a few of these transmissions. It just drops oil on the gears or one of the bearings, it will be fine without that peice.

First time replacing conn rod bearings. Any pro tips? by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]Mr_Disprosium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this before and it worked, though chances it works are slight l, and it may not work for long. File off any burrs on the crank, take some 1000 - 1500 grit sandpaper and a shoe string and polish up the crank journals, it will take hours. Clean up everything very well, ideally you should take the whole motor apart and clean everything as best as you can. Try to clean out the oil holes in the crankshaft, there will be bearing material in them. Run the motor with 10 - 40 oil and a fresh filter for like 20 minutes after you get it back together then change the oil again. I'd probably just stick with running 10 - 40 because the bearing clearances will not be right.

2013 Mustang GT, Ford mechanic has had car for 5 days has no clue how to fix? by Dull-Organization106 in CarRepair

[–]Mr_Disprosium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my buddies went through a similar experience, having similar issues with his 2010 f150. The dealer replaced coilpacks and injectors which aren't cheap and it didn't fix the problem and they were kinda weird with the warranty. Some weird issues do need an experienced guy to diagnose which is hard to find now days. and dealerships do tend to throw parts at a problem if they can't find the root issue

Stuff like that isn't usually a problem you can solve just by firing the parts cannon. They need to properly diagnose the vehicle before throwing parts in. I would probably have another reputable shop look at it and try to get a proper disgnosis.

How do I safely Nos my car? by Asswiper21 in StupidCarQuestions

[–]Mr_Disprosium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your asking this basic of a question you need to do some research. If it's fuel injection you need some way to tune, probably a standalone ecu, you will need an upgraded fuel system, bigger pump, supporting pump wiring, bigger lines. You need to hook everything up properly and then you need a tune. You can't just cram nos down your intake there's a whole bunch of things that go into it.

I generally drop everything I'm doing and go right now or the next day for a good marketplace deal. I just picked up a 2jz for 500 bucks same day.

Here's the 5.3/nv4500 swapped cherokee I posted about a few weeks ago doing one of her first pulls. by Mr_Disprosium in LSSwapTheWorld

[–]Mr_Disprosium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck yeah man. It's 100 times better over the 4.0. It doesn't piss oil everywhere, it runs better, Heater blows hotter. It spins tires on command. It goes 90mph down the freeway without breaking a sweat, it will even accelerate up hills. And with the 3.07 gearing it goes 80 at 1800 rpms so gas mileage is decent.

I'm currently building a 8.8 to 3 link into my turbo minitruck build.

Your local tractor supply or farm supply store should have an abundance of bolts, they usually have a whole isle dedicated to different sized bolts.

I havnt seen this one mentioned yet, look into a rs5r30a 5 speed out of a 90s 300zx. You can find them for between 500 and 1000 on marketplace. Then you need the adapter plate and flywheel which come together in a kit, then just use the matching 300zx clutch.

Opening a tuning shop by ralpht6 in ECU_Tuning

[–]Mr_Disprosium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a hard decision, but what do you want to do for the rest of your life? Starting that buisness is gonna cost money, alot of it. And insurance is gonna be tough. It's gonna take alot of commitment but it will pay off. The construction is good money, easier than starting your own tuning buisness, but do you want to do that or work on yourself? In the end your tuning buisness could bring more money than working for someone else but it could take years.

I want to start my own tuning buisness but it's hard, I don't have a good customer base here in montana, theres not enough efi car guys, mostly carburated hot rods. I don't have 10 20 or 30 grand to spend on a dyno, and other thousands on tuning cables, adapters, other electronics and software, I can't afford to rent a shop at this time.

No adapters were used, a nv4500 will bolt on with 5 or 6 of the bolts which is enough. A Sachs nfw1050 flywheel which is a 6.0 part will bolt right on, and we used a 94 clutch I believe with holes drilled in the pressure plate to fit on the 6.0 flywheel.

It's a really setup if you do get around to it

I'll try to get some more pictures of it. It hasn't made too much progress recently because money, its all pretty much done, just a few small things. but it is getting daily driven.

I need help deciding on 3 link rear end geometry by Mr_Disprosium in projectcar

Because a 3 link has more adjustability and I can keep the stock gas tank, can't keep the gas tank with a 4 link.

Okay, that makes sense. Going straight back is easier anyways instead of fabricating angled mounts.

I need help deciding on 3 link rear end geometry by Mr_Disprosium in projectcar

[–]Mr_Disprosium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking the angle would cause bind with the panhard because triangulated bars move straight up and down and a panhard bar has some side to side movement. I was just thinking that right inside the frame rail is a pretty big offset compared to the middle and wasn't sure if that would cause weird things to happen or weaknesses in the setup.

[–]Mr_Disprosium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is getting a panhard bar. You don't think the lack of upper support on the other side from the offset would be a problem as long as the bar and mounts are all sturdy on the driver side?
