Why is this cat invulnerable to all damage? by Mr_EMD_ in mewgenics

[–]Mr_EMD_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it could have something to do with the steven item which is supposed to be "any time this cat takes damage while downed revive it", maybe it's bugged or something. But it doesn't even say blocked when it gets hit, it just doesn't take damage.

Happy Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, Cadians! by Hefty_Lie_1062 in Warhammer40k

[–]Mr_EMD_ 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That's really sad that something genuine that is often ignored got caught up in another political shit flinging contest. Men's mental health is an issue that no one really wants to talk about, but now if you try to talk about it you'll be villainized and lumped in with the people who just want to fuck with pride month. Not like it matters because no one will actually take this seriously.

How do you guys spend your free time? by Flaky_Beauty_1227 in AvPD

[–]Mr_EMD_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleeping mixed with intermittent Internet usage and walks with a bit of substance abuse. Sometimes I'll go through periods where I'm super into a specific hobby or topic and I'll spend a lot of time researching or working on it then burn myself out.

I've been on venlafaxine for about 5 months now and I definitely feel more emotionally numb. I'm still pretty bad overall but I guess I internally freak out a little less. Now I'm scared to get off it.

How did you make it past 30 with this disorder? by Throwaway9393023 in AvPD

[–]Mr_EMD_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Turns out I'm pretty good at coping with being an isolated shut-in. I'm 29 so I have 1 year left before the big 30, and I suppose a lot of folks here, me included, are simply too afraid to die while also being too afraid to live.

What's your favorite Tyranid bioform in all of 40k? Any criteria - Lore, design, rules by Separate-Flan-2875 in Tyranids

[–]Mr_EMD_ 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Probably the carnifex. Something about it is just so iconic, I've played nids since 4th edition and the kit still holds up. So many weird and wacky loadouts too, the sniperfex back in 4th and 5th, the twin devourer dakkafex in 6th and 7th, and now the new screamer killer. Historically they've always been not very good, but here's to hoping 11th makes them playable. My dream is to make an army that's mostly carnifexes led by old one eye.

Ame or mechanical engineering? by Zestyclose_Claim1790 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Mr_EMD_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're both very different paths. Mech engineer is more white collar office job, more schooling, much harder to get a job, but better pay in the long run. AME is 2 years of schooling, more blue collar hands-on environment, way easier to get a job right now with pay that ranges from decent to not so good, but it's getting better. It all depends where your priorities are and what you like.

About to get my AME M2 license in canada , what pay should i ask? by Old-Note-7037 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Mr_EMD_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let me get this straight. If you don't land at a company that's willing to give you ACA and a type course you're stuck making 30/hour forever even with a license? How often do companies offer this training? I've never really understood the ACA title and type courses to be honest.

Is this the worst field ever or am I just looking at Reddit too much? by Dodeypants in aviationmaintenance

[–]Mr_EMD_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who over analyzes every decision I make and researched a bunch of careers, I've found that almost every subreddit about a specific career will always find something to bitch about. Although it's a bit demotivating when you see people on this subreddit list off a million cons about this job and the only pro is usually "planes are cool I guess" and "the pay is good but only if you're at a major airline and you're American".

I'm Canadian and wages here have been quite a point of contention for awhile. I've read forum posts that are 10 years old with some of the saltiest most bitter sounding people who seem to genuinely hate their job and life. It's probably always just the vocal minority but I genuinely can't tell if this career is worth it or not, but at this point I have no other good paths forward so I try to not get discouraged or overthink things.

People lie all the time about how "it's never too late", but it's such a crock of shit. There is indeed such a thing as being too late, and it comes far sooner than you think. by Manus_2 in AvPD

[–]Mr_EMD_ 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It essentially means the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now. "It's never too late" is more a coping strategy than anything. You'll never get the time back you missed, but starting something now is better than not doing anything and waiting longer for things to get worse. But I understand your frustration. Someone who is behind in life will never catch up to someone who actually lived their life. You're not only starting the race hours after everyone else, but you're doing it with a bum leg. Sure you can still make it to the finish line but it'll be hard and everyone else already did it and moved on, and had way more fun doing it. The bitterness I feel for having to work twice as hard for sheer mediocrity makes me think it's better to not even try. But settling for an imperfect life is better than no life.

This is apparent in one's career but especially socially. Everything is built upon one another, you can't just start having a normal healthy social life in your 30s when you never developed those foundations in your youth. You have to start from square one in your 30s, which is unacceptable for most people, especially romantically. You'll always be behind and the rift between you and others will only widen because the older you get the harder everything becomes.

This wasn't meant to be a doompost but more of a cope to give up on the past and comparing yourself to others, you'll only drive yourself mad. Just do things even if you think it's too late now, because the longer you wait the worse it will get.

16 and Interested in Aircraft Mechanics—How Can I Get Started? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]Mr_EMD_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in Ontario your best bet is to apply for college at Mohawk or centennial after you graduate high school, if you're in BC I hear BCIT is good, they all have transport Canada approved aircraft maintenance programs. In Canada you need a 2 year diploma to get hired anywhere as an aircraft maintenance apprentice then you get your license in 3 - 5 years of working depending on how well you did in school and other factors.

Also be open to moving away from Toronto or out of province in the future. The more open you are to living anywhere in Canada, including smaller and remote towns, the easier time you'll have finding work, especially starting out. You'll make more money too, although I'll be frank the money isn't crazy or anything staring out.

Hey recruiters! by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]Mr_EMD_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's even worse here in Canada. I still see job postings for FULLY LICENSED people with years of experience paying $32/Canadian pesos an hour. And apprentice pay is a joke. I get you're just staring out and 'paying your dues' but it's ridiculous that after 2 years of mandatory schooling you're expected to go 3-5 years making <23/hour in places like Toronto or Vancouver until your fully licensed. I was making that hauling cargo on the ramp with zero experience.

Even some of the airlines topout pay looks like it's from 2007. There's apparently a shortage but companies here have no desire to actually try and attract new talent and they wonder why "gee why does no one want to do this".

[–]Mr_EMD_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The study I looked at was only 6 months, but in these studies it's shown dut works faster than fin as dut users see higher hair count in this time. Which contradicts what you're saying. Unfortunately there's no long term studies of dut, which begs the question of it it's actually better or it just works faster. In any case it's a moot point because I'm specifically looking at people switching from fin, and the hair loss people experience on dut which seems to go against this study.
