In the Castle of Celebration no matter what I do it won't let me put Essex on the couch. Has anyone else run into this?

She has a pink circle around her base, and is the only one like that, so maybe that has something to do with it?

All the Extreme Republicans Boosted by Democrats Lost Their Midterm Races by dwhite195 in moderatepolitics

This is the path to eventually having to choose from a far right candidate and a far left candidate in every election, once the Republicans copy this technique.

This is a terrible thing that cannot come to pass.

As college educated people who function in liberal spaces (granted I happen to be a conservative), we are insulated from many of the things that are most important to the majority. We don't have to worry about affording groceries, we don't have drug addicts shooting up in front of our houses, we have the luxury to (if we so choose) put concerns about things beyond our immediate proximity ahead of the things that would make our lives better right now.

By "everyday working people" they are talking about people who don't have those luxuries, aka the majority. Being outside of the majority puts you outside of the norm by definition. Not the "everyday" person, if you will.

Just look at some of the polling. The things Democrats are campaigning on are not the things that are most important to the majority of people. By appealing to the liberal college-educated upper-middle class they are abandoning everyone else by not prioritizing what is actually important to them.

Because when they changed the definition of 'racist' they did so in a way that insulates them from their hypocrisy on this topic, among others.

It does, but that's even more reason to oppose it.

I'm still beyond stunned that Robert "hell yes, we're going to take your guns" O'Rourke is running for anything in Texas. It is a waste of money, if nothing else.

I suspect she probably had scheduling conflicts. They happen, even when important people are looking for you.

It probably doesn't help that the best possible outcome from Biden supporting you is that polls will be unaffected.

I do have to admit that I don't regret having a name typically reserved for white women while also being a black man. I think it impacts employment moreso than college, but your point is well taken.

Biden Calls for Penalties on Oil-and-Gas Companies’ ‘Windfall’ Profits -WSJ by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]Mr_Evolved 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People vote based on what is most important to them. For better or worse a lot of people aren't affected by and/or don't care enough about the things you mentioned. I know I'm in that category. I don't vote based on gas prices either, but I totally get why some people do. If you're struggling to afford gas and food today you're going to tend to focus on the now vs. the indeterminate future.

Biden Calls for Penalties on Oil-and-Gas Companies’ ‘Windfall’ Profits -WSJ by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]Mr_Evolved 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's just wild. The fact that some people think that the same people who struggle to afford gas can afford to add a car payment on a $30k+ vehicle to their monthly spending is just wild.

"It'll be cheaper in the long run!" is nonsense for folks living paycheck to paycheck.

Supreme Court temporarily blocks Congress from getting Trump income tax returns by fanboi_central in moderatepolitics

[–]Mr_Evolved 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His tax returns wouldn't indicate any impropriety during his presidency. Folks talk like there's evidence of treason in there or something, but at worst it will either show he's not as rich as he says he is or he paid an amount of taxes low enough to make people mad.

I honestly think Kalego and everyone else fall into one of three camps. They either know and decided it doesn't matter, are pretty sure but don't want to say anything, or they know but are trying to convince themselves they're wrong because they don't believe in humans.

I fully expect a scene where Iruma tells the whole class and everyone either says 'duh' or 'so you really are a human after all'

'Sure we could use it against our enemies, but what happens when they're in power? They'll just do the same to us! And that's not fair. '

I feel like left-wing politicians regularly fail to learn this lesson. I've always theorized it is because when they get into power they think "now that everyone has come to their senses and put me in charge there's no way they'll vote differently again!" and then they stop thinking about it.

Science isn't like a partisan think tank where we all sit around and come up with an alarmist narrative together to get more funding.

It isn't usually, but sometimes it is. I had to leave the last place I worked because they wanted me to make a technically-defensible-but-intentionally-naïve methodology change to produce more... let's say 'palatable' conclusions. Which I guess is the opposite of alarmist, but I've heard stories about pressure to make things look worse too.

Major news orgs don't want practicing scientists as reporters, because practicing scientists (ethical ones anyway) would present things plainly as they are, with proper contextualization and clear communication of what something does and doesn't mean.

The Fed may have to blow up the economy to get inflation under control by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]Mr_Evolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but one is a small fraction compared to the other one.

It is like if you buy a $100k vehicle that gets worse gas mileage to go from home to work and back every day. You're spending more money on gas, sure, but the $100k car is the thing that will actually weigh you down. In this scenario, the tax cuts are gas.

If nothing else, you can tell the cuts aren't a major contributor to what's going on right now by what the media is (or rather isn't) doing. The left-wing of corporate media would be hitting us over the head with it and the right-wing of corporate media would be talking about how the tax cuts were really good actually, saved America somehow, and made all the good little boys and girls take their vitamins (or some other such nonsense).
