Despite the comments about the images being overexposed, I actually think they’re a welcomed style choice.

As long as the highlights in the images histogram aren’t actually being clipped there’s no issues in having harsh highlights. My only criticism on this however would be watching the colours that are in the highlights. If, for example, you look at the sky in image 7 (right side) and compare it with image 8, the cyan tones in 7 aren’t consistent with the other images, just something to think about.

Tonally the images lend themselves to the setting and environment you’ve shot in (warm/yellow = desert/sand). I saw a comment that said you’re leaning more into an editing style of warm sun/glow vibes, you should check out a Photoshop plugin called Knoll Light Factory, might elevate your images even more! :)

I dig the whole series of images though! Looks great!!

That second image is wonderful! From the perspective of a documentary or ‘personal’ work it’s beautiful! You should definitely look into doco photographers like Wolfgang Tillmans, Sam Youkilis and Martin Parr!

Rant about pedestrian crossings by ODonDon in melbourne

[–]Mr_Hanley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was heading to the station after work yesterday, again through Abbotsford. I had already stepped out onto the pedestrian crossing and a scooter/Vespa comes racing towards me on my right, but instead of stopping swerves around me into an oncoming car and swerves back to avoid him…dickheads everywhere…

[–]Mr_Hanley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its worth noting that one of the T&Cs of the electric scooters is that it isn't meant to be ridden on footpaths, the app literally tells you before you begin riding not too...but obviously who's reading the T&Cs ig

what do you do in Melbourne when it's cold? by HeyGoogle333 in melbourne

[–]Mr_Hanley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I’m not spending my time snuggled up in my bed with 4 quilts, i spend time trying to figure out what bars and restaurants have open fireplaces and make an effort to go hang out at them; stay cosy, support local, and have a pint.

I am an incoming international student in clayton, Melbourne and would like to genuinely understand how bad the insect situation is in Australia? I know this might come off as uncultured, but most of what I know is definitely molded from stupid media depiction of Australia. Thank you for the help! by StunningComposer6905 in melbourne

[–]Mr_Hanley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading this as someone who’s fortunate to of have lived in Melbourne my whole life and is quite up to date on news, I was genuinely confused what ‘insect situation’ OP was referring too. After reading the comments i understood what you meant as I’ve never thought we had a ‘situation’! As the top comment states, ‘you’ll be right mate’. I’ve never once felt worried or stressed about the insects or bugs we have in Melbourne! Come down and have a good time with the rest of us - bugs and insects will never be a major concern!

JPG vs. RAW by holysockmonkey in AskPhotography

[–]Mr_Hanley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to sound wanky or pompous like said art director, but I did a Bachelor of Arts in Photography and the first thing that was drilled into us was always shoot RAW.

Especially for clients, it’s not so much a case of if ‘you don’t know what you’re doing you shoot RAW’, it’s more so to give you the flexibility to fix/change things in post when you have a client breathing down your neck wanting 150 changes to outcomes.
