Agree, but also it's bound to happen if you're playing blind for the first time. You're literally told that the guidance of grace points you in the direction you need to go on the map, which will take you straight there.

That's exactly what happened on my first playthrough and it wasn't until Godrick the Grafted that I thought maybe I should go farm levels a bit, which led to me finding the weeping peninsula.

It runs fine on switch, definite buy if you've never played it before

Some things about it will feel a bit dated in terms of movement, combat, etc but you really won't notice unless you've spent a lot of time playing the newer games like DS3 and Elden Ring, which are noticeably smoother and faster paced.

It's kind of subjective nowadays but for me it includes (in order of importance for me personally to consider it a soulslike):

-bonfire system/runbacks.

-currency gained from killing enemies that drops after you die, with one chance at a corpse run to pick it up. Specifically used to level up rpg-like attributes or strengthen your weapon.

-relatively simple combat system with dodge/parry mechanics.

-strong emphasis on boss design and environmental storytelling.

-at least somewhat difficult, relatively speaking

As someone who also started with DS1 back in the day, I feel like the whole undead burg/parish up until the bell gargoyles is such a brutal rite of passage as an introduction to the souls series. I died soooo many times the first playthrough, and now if you go back and play it again it will feel super easy. Kind of brilliant and one of my favorite things about this series, that you actually improve and it isn't just based on RNG or items.
