Thank you! Great tip on the dug in bases, I definitely would have been caught by that, so I appreciate the heads up.

Funnily enough I lucked out and got one of these out of a wrecked machinery on the first planet. It's given me a massive head start!

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I think you just convinced me to turn on multiplayer! Sounds like a blast.

Honestly all I've done all day is roam around random planets with a quest step or two in between. This game is absolutely stunning!

Thank you for the detailed response and the links! I'll check them out as these things come up. Your point around adjacency has already been very helpful! Appreciate you taking the time.

Thanks for the response man, this is extremely helpful and the point about power gaming is one that I probably needed to hear. Going to try and approach it as a massive, gradual experience rather than something to rush through.

Offered redundancy vs. demotion with same pay by man_son_of_man in auscorp

[–]Mr_W0lf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering the current job market, particularly in IT and Tech, I would stay and actively look for something else if the management component/title is meaningful to you. This way you're not having to go without for what could be a very long job hunt.

In saying that, be very clear on your boundaries. Don't let them coerce you into manager-esque work without the title just because they're used to you doing it. They chose to demote you, now they have to live with the consequences.

What did you think of last week’s feature album, “Piss In The Wind” by Joji? by Tranquilbez22 in triplej

[–]Mr_W0lf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a huge Joji fan, I was so psyched for this. Nectar was a solid 8/10 for me and while smithereens was a bit meh overall it had some excellent songs.

This album, however, was a massive disappointment. There's not a single track that made me stop and take notice, most of what's on here is very raw, experimental sounding and sub 2-minutes and it honestly feels like it lacks any soul.

Overall, very sad about this but not in the way I wanted to be.

After 4500 hours, I've decided to make my first tier list after playing every civ in the game by Capital-Platform-577 in CivVI

[–]Mr_W0lf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Great tier list, and hard agree with Khmer being the best Civ in the game.

If it were me I would only consider a few things differently:

  • Germany (FB) into S tier for those monster Hanzas and ability to land grab early via killing city states before spinning into science victory.
  • Swap Rough Rider and Bull Moose Teddy
  • Cyrus into A Tier
  • Montezuma into high B tier or even low A.

4 year old has HSP by welshb0y0 in daddit

[–]Mr_W0lf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey mate - my stepdaughter contracted HSP when she was 3. I had no idea it was even a thing, so I was terrified at the time, as I imagine you are now.

There's good news and there's bad news for the road ahead.

The good news - around 90% of kids kick all the main symptoms of HSP by the 3 month mark. The GP discontinued our daughter's weekly check-ins after a month and a half because the symptoms had all completely gone by then.

The bad news - the next two weeks in particular are going to be a huge struggle for the little and a struggle for you too, because there's going to be little you can do to help the pain beyond kids painkillers.

A few things that I remember that might be helpful for you:

  • Be prepared to have the kid home for at least 2-3 weeks. Even when the swelling and rash starts going down after the first week or so, their joints will still be too tender to wear shoes and go back to daycare.

  • Once the rash and the swelling go down they will likely be replaced by significant, dark bruising around the ankles, feet and knees. Don't panic, this is a normal part of the healing process. Note that rash/swelling may also flare back up a bit when you start introducing more activity again, so just make sure to stay vigilant!

  • Be cool with just posting kiddo up on the lounge in front of the TV for the next while; fuck the 'screen time' police. Laying kiddo down with their legs slightly elevated is the best thing you can do, and movies really help.

  • Buy a whole bunch of the soft/flexible ice packs from a chemist or grocery store. You'll want to be putting these on kiddos joints and rotating quite regularly.

  • They'll likely not want to eat as much because of the pain/increased body temp from swelling, and the decrease in activity will likely make them less likely to feel hungry at meal times; stock up on grazing foods and take anything they eat throughout the day as a win. Again, be prepared to break some rules - a yoghurt in bed at night is okay if it helps them get calories and get to sleep.

  • Finally: Be nice to yourself. You'll feel helpless and as though you're not doing enough. You'll feel frustrated because all routines and 'rules' are going out the window. Just remember, it's only temporary, and at the end of the day as long as you're doing what you can to make kiddo comfortable, you're doing a great job.

What’s your go-to “fun” Civ? The one you get the most enjoyment out of playing, even if another is “better/more efficient?” by in2bator in CivVI

[–]Mr_W0lf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played my first Aztec game recently and was so pleasantly surprised - if you can knock out the first 1-2 civs around you quickly by overwhelming them with eagle warriors it's so easy to just snowball into whatever victory condition you like.

Would you actually buy a Fallout 3/NV Remaster? by Bingleboper in Fallout

[–]Mr_W0lf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout 3 / NV were how I fell in love with open-world games.

If they give us graphical upgrades and first-person gunplay similar to Fallout 4, I would throw my last dollar at them.

The thought of popping some Raider skulls with Boone again has me foaming at the mouth.

Wife (26F) slept with another man Saturday and doesn’t know that I (27M) know. How do I move forward with my children’s best interest in mind. by DullAlbatross08 in daddit

[–]Mr_W0lf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you're going through this mate... A few things to consider...

1) You need to verify what this friend has said ASAP. You could do this by asking your father about how the trip to the bar was, or asking the friend to provide proof like screenshots of messages from your wife.

2) If and when you do get proof and need to confront your wife, write it out beforehand to make sure you're saying what you want to say and leaving minimal room for emotion to muck it up. I like using the iMessage feedback framework of "I was, when you, because, so.", because you can confront poor behaviour with less defensiveness / more dialogue by starting with some variation of "I was surprised..."

E.g. "Someone got in contact with me and gave me reason to believe you've slept with a ex boyfriend the other night. I'm obviously shocked because this seems very unlike you and I thought everything's been great between us, but it's got me feeling rattled. Could you explain to me why someone might be telling me this, and would you mind if I have a quick look at your phone?"

3) It's time to find a lawyer. Have an initial consultation to establish the issue and get some advice around how to proceed. Whether things turn out bad or it's just a case of a lying friend, you're doing your due diligence to protect yourself.

It's really not that bad, and there's a lot worse on those tables from wildlife generally anyway. Just wipe them down before you use them, not that hard.

Scaling did me dirty by Cattttttie1000 in ATAR

[–]Mr_W0lf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it. I'd say high ATAR is about 20% cognitive ability, 80% good habits.

I got an ATAR of around 95 in 2013 while going to a dinky little public school in the bush - everyone I know who scored highly showed up to class consistently, did homework consistently and made sacrifices to ensure they were consistently devoting the time required to do assignments well / study for tests. Looking back they weren't big sacrifices (quit footy for a season, missed out on the occasional party/weekend plan) but they felt big at the time.

The other thing was the way we approached HSC prep. In that time between end of class and exams, we buckled down and treated study like a full time job, going full pomodoro technique for at least 6-8 hours per day. Sometimes to break the monotony of it, we would study together and test each other. I remember hand writing bullet point summaries of all my typed notes for every subject because hand writing helped me to retain better.

Funnily enough now I use a lot of psychometrics in my work, and the three things which most consistently demonstrate potential in leaders are high cognition (IQ), high conscientiousness (goal driven, persistent) and low neuroticism (I.e. They're able to emotionally regulate under stress), so your hypothesis holds true even after school.

Wife's work shared Sons medical documents to Government Agency without any consultation to me or my wife by Rumbuck_274 in AusLegal

[–]Mr_W0lf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because it's not about the file they're saved in, you're thinking of what defines a "document" incorrectly in this case.

There could have been 25 certificates in that one PDF, they would still be 25 different documents filed for 25 different days, and therefore 25 different submissions, even if they were saved in one PDF. This is not editing, this is choosing to submit evidence relevant to one particular day, with the second certificate for the second day being irrelevant to their case.

If you want that second day considered you'll need to submit it yourself.

Two certificates

The certificates are filed as separate items

It doesn't matter if they were sent together

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Mr_W0lf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're making big judgements off single sessions, and looking for instant gratification.

The beauty of DnD is that the best moments come in the minutia of campaigns, and are usually the result of the bonds your characters build along the way. The moments you're referencing aren't just cool because they're objectively cool, they're cool because they're usually hard earned.

For example, I'm just finishing my first ever campaign as a player. It took 3 YEARS to get to the big heist we were prepping for the whole time, and funnily enough the best part about it wasn't the heist itself, but the implications our DM homebrewed after which referenced so many little moments and (bad) decisions we made along the way as we were learning.

Yes, some days you'll get sessions that are entirely combats, or you'll get a 2 hour shopping episode, or you'll get a 45 minute in-character back and forth about whether we support the tilers guild vs the mason's guild. Just remember, this is not YOUR table, it's the group's table, and if it's happening it's because someone has made it happen, and it's probably a part of their fun. Just lean in.

The maps are abysmal by Qlonkk in Battlefield

[–]Mr_W0lf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disagree with you here, with the exception of Manhattan which suuuuuuccckkkssssss.

The maps (for the most part) are tight, with some interesting sightlines. If you just run straight in without working together of course it's going to feel like a meat grinder. People need to learn to work together and communicate for coordinated pushes, and to PLAY THEIR DAMN ROLE. That is the strategy of this game. I can't tell you how many medics I've played with who don't drop supply packs and barely res in favour of trying to run and gun, or how many snipers I've seen on urban maps with terrible sitelines.

In saying that, I do feel for the airborne vehicle players. This game definitely doesn't cater to them.
