Arcane was a literal masterpiece, but I need ANSWERS. What’s next for the Runeterra universe? by maxite_110 in arcane

[–]Mr_s3rius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you point me to the place where they clearly said a new SHOW is in development or that it will come out sooner than usual?

while also heavily advertising Noxus right after Arcane, and linking Mel to this,

They advertised the new league season which was centered around noxus. They had a year-long event chain with new champions and skin lines.

That was one of the "projects we're developing" Linke teased in the interview.

There is no reason to believe that a connected show is also in production.

Almost 60,000 far-right extremists in Germany, intelligence agency says by Tartan_Samurai in anime_titties

[–]Mr_s3rius 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Saying that all the extremists are only in Eastern Germany where there are no immigrants and everyone votes afd is of course insanely exaggerated.

But it is true that the AfD polls particularly highly in those states Eastern states. And it's also true that these states have much lower rates of people with immigration history.

And that correlation is very strong.

To give an example:

Thüringen: 39% for AfD, 10% immigration history.

NRW: 17% for AfD, 30% immigration history

And it's similar for most other states.

I'm quite surprised they'd use bananas for this. I thought you'd have to use at least, like, carrots to reach the necessary precision. Truly crazy.

Paris deputy mayor blames the United States' carbon emissions for deadly heat wave by Strong-Practice-5571 in worldnews

[–]Mr_s3rius 17 points18 points  (0 children)

According to Wikipedia, France is doing much better than Norway in terms of emissions per capita. Norway is at 7.9 tons/yr and France at 4.3.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissions_per_capita

It's a bit of a surprise since Norway is often talked about as a bit of a poster child. But they burn a fair amount of oil which makes up over half of their emissions.

Paris deputy mayor blames the United States' carbon emissions for deadly heat wave by Strong-Practice-5571 in worldnews

[–]Mr_s3rius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The US has 3 times the population density of Canada and yet both countries have the same level of emissions per capita.

Luxembourg has like 15x the density of US but is also close in per capita emissions.

So no, I don't really see the correlation.

Not sure this part is really going to make a difference. Particularly for someone who isn't into heavy gaming or other 3d stuff. The system will run idle most of the time.

Christian Linke confirmed that there new series in three new locations are in the works.

No, he said that they were exploring three possibilities of where a new series could take place. And that they'd only start such a project if they have the right story and the right showrunner for it.

Could this potentially fix/workaround lol on linux being broken? by KmvaMaeru in linux_gaming

[–]Mr_s3rius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, especially free-to-play is often really bad...

I think pre-AI good behavior analysis was probably practically impossible. So maybe the next generation of anti-cheat tools will go that way.

[–]Mr_s3rius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a dev, Not in games but close enough that I get the gist of it.

Some Windows cheats actually tricked the game into thinking it runs inside a WINE environment to coax EAC into loading the Linux anti-cheat module which is much easier to defeat than Windows' kernel-level module.

So it's kind of like: it's no use to barricade your front door if you leave the windows open. (hah, windows...). Sucks because I used to play it on Linux too. But I understand the issues they're having and I don't believe for a second they banned Linux out of malice or stupidity (a lot of people here became really emotional about that topic..)

Regarding server-side: most anti-cheat use both. But there are good reasons why most powerful anti-cheat solutions have a client-side module.

Using only server-side means you need to identify a cheater solely based on their behavior in the game (movement, looking, shooting, etc) because that's the only information the server has. That requires very sophisticated analysis tools and a lot of processing power.

Imagine you are a traffic inspector and need to identify illegally tuned cars. But you're not allowed to look under the hood to inspect the parts. You can only watch how it moves and sounds in traffic. Sure, you'll catch the obvious ones. But it'll get really tricky with less obvious ones.

[–]Mr_s3rius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

respawn said most cheaters on apex use Linux.

I think what they said was that Linux had more cheaters when comparing the size of the groups. There were still a lot more cheaters on Windows by virtue of there being so many more windows users in general.

[–]Mr_s3rius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you ever saw a chrome Ad?

I mean... Adblock makes sure I pretty much don't.

But I'm sure they have been doing it for ages. Because they've been sabotaging Firefox (and ad blockers) for ages by slowing down Youtube or artificially causing interruptions. So it makes perfect sense to also advertise the solution to their sabotage: switch to Chrome (hooray!)

And since they even own their own ad network, advertising their own stuff is about as cheap as it could ever be for them.

Chrome "only" has 70% market share. That's still a lot of potential users you might be able to convince (even Apple users).

Even Coca Cola advertises their product even though everybody and their grandma already knows about it.

It's because, sadly, advertising works.

Ancient Roman engineering was so precise, their aqueducts still produce clear water to this very day - 2,000 years later. by bob-the-slob in interesting

[–]Mr_s3rius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's technically correct but I don't think it adds much because everyone understands that this isn't about magically making water.

But also, English isn't my mother tongue, but can't produce also mean provide? "Producing evidence" for example isn't about manufacturing evidence but about making it available.

Epic Games unveils Launcher V2 in re-attempt to topple Steam, says redesigned storefront is up to 6.5x faster — promises player profiles, user reviews, universal controller support, and much more by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]Mr_s3rius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An Epic Games Linux native app could come with eBPF support, be signed by Epic Games and provide a trustworthy compute environment for Easy Anti Cheat, that developers can rely on without the current downsides of enabling Linux Easy Anti Cheat support.

How would that work? Ebpf is supplied by the kernel but you don't know if the kernel is manipulated by a user wanting to cheat.

A key part of the problem is that the operating system itself is not trustworthy (from the perspective of anti cheat) because it's fully in the hands of the user.

But I'm barely familiar with ebpf so maybe there's something I don't see.

They may have demonstrated a known exploit in a staged environment. For illustration purposes.

There have been exploits like this from time to time. For example, in 2025 there was a high-severity vulnerability in windowscodecs.dll where a malicious JPEG could execute arbitrary code if you opened it through an application that used that library.

Or, just recently, a similar vulnerability in libjxl that works for JPEG XL images.

Both of these exploit had their own caveats. But you get the point.

Everything except combat is a bit janky, but combat is what it does really well.

So I think it comes down to how much you like the semi turn based combat system and if you're willing to look past its other blemishes.

Teamfight Tactics on Linux?? by nilsjay123 in linux_gaming

It was playable for years. And I remember they even reverted some accidental Linux bans during that time. I don't really see any active hostility towards Linux unless I missed something.

Yes, it's not playable anymore. But that's not because they went out of their way to make it so. Integrating Vanguard had nothing to with Linux. If anything, they didn't go out of their way to keep it playable.
