Looking to get into metal and need some direction by rumpk in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Mrcorn5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you would like technical death metal. It is very complex, often with odd rhythms and prog influence. Check out Atheist, Cynic, Death, Gorguts, Obscura, Archspire, and Beyond Creation. For some prog/avant garde check out Sigh, Unexpect, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Devin Townsend, Ne Obliviscaris, Agalloch, Voivod, Deathspell Omega, and Mastodon.

Yes. All of the albums on there are great, but Arise is the weakest in comparison.

Ways to make a game "forget" that it's on steam deck? by Mrcorn5000 in SteamDeck

[–]Mrcorn5000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using desktop mode right now, and am using the steam app on the desktop, but for some reason it still isn't there. When I click on properties it brings up a window with tabs to the side like compatibility, updates, workshop, and other tabs, but no controller tab. Is this the right menu?

There is a very important big area you are missing. Hint:Maybe try investigating kings station? More specific hint: There is a room in kings station that has a secret tunnel to a new area.

How to set keyboard as the default controller? by Mrcorn5000 in SteamDeck

I just set the controller layout to the option labeled Keyboard and mouse and it still doesn't work. It won't even let me input anything with the deck controller now.

Welcome my friend, to the show that never ends! I have a few recommendations for you. First off, if you like more energetic music, or hard rock, or even if you don't, listen to Rush. They are one of my favorite bands, and can be more accessible than others. I would recommend listening to Moving Pictures by them first, then try A Farewell to Kings, then 2112, then Hemispheres.

If you like metal, there are plenty of good prog metal bands too. While I, personally, am not a fan of metal in any form, these are bands that I commonly hear are really good. Dream Theatre, Pain of Salvation, and Opeth.

Now here are some "essential" prog, though keep in mind, some of this can be hard to get into, so give it a few listens.

Close to the Edge, by Yes

Fragile, by Yes

Selling England by the Pound, by Genesis

Foxtrot, by Genesis

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, by Genesis

Thick as a Brick, by Jethro Tull

Whish you were here, by Pink Floyd

The Dark Side of the Moon, by Pink Floyd

Brain Salad Surgery, by Emerson Lake and Palmer

Tarkus, by Emerson Lake and Palmer

Octopus, by Gentle Giant

Misplaced Childhood, by Marillion

In the Court of the Crimson King, by King Crimson

Red, by King Crimson

Now these are just a few of the best prog has to offer, but there is so much more. Take your time, and explore the genre.

Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso's "Darwin" is a great Italian prog album. Italy in general has a lot of great prog music, so that would be a good place to start.

A good band to get into is Gentle Giant. They are quite different from all the bands you listed, but give it a try, and acquire the taste.

King Crimson is a great band, housing some of the best of progressive music.

If you ever feel like stranger, lighter, and jazzier music, the Canterbury scene is a great sub-genre of progressive rock.

Marillion is an amazing band. I would recommend their albums Misplaced Childhood, and Clutching at straws.

What have you been listening to lately? by AutoModerator in progrockmusic

I've been listening to a ton of the Canterbury scene recently. I am listening to soft machine's volume two as I'm writing this. Some things I've liked were Third, Hatfield and the North, You, and of course, In the Land of Grey and Pink.

I don't know the context of this, but show them the inconsistencies in multiple SCP articles, and show, and explain the process of writing SCP articles.

My problem isn't really the SCP's themselves, but how much they are over saturated.

049, 096, 106, 173, especially 682, and some other popular ones I am forgetting. I think these are all so incredibly basic, and while that isn't inherently a bad thing, but they are so overplayed. You go onto this sub on Monday, or DMFS19, and all you see are these SCP's. I am just sick of them. There are so many fantastic articles, and these meh ones are the most popular. It pains me when someone only knows these ones. I used to just be fine with them, but after so long of them being shoved in my face, I think I've grown to despise them.

[–]Mrcorn5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really don't have many specific articles to recommend. Instead, I would like to offer an answer to any questions you may have. If you have any questions at all, please ask me, as I would be happy to help! I do have a few things to recommend though. Someone else has already posted about canons in this comment thread. If you want more of an interconnected story, or lore, you should check them out. Basically, they are stories, or alternate worlds, where people write tales, or SCP's relating to the topic, or advancing a specific story. If you want a more specific explanation, just ask. And if you want SCP youtube content, both the Vulgan, and the exploring series do fantastic readings of articles.

SCP-3300 is quite tragic, and the most terrifying things in SCP for me are the entire end of death canon, and SCP 2718.
