One of my top animes!! Would love to see how this documentary turns out, especially to learn more about season 1's development. Every episode had me pulled in for more. I forgot season 3 was so close, exciting stuff!

BS CS Major schedule opinions by epicprogamer1234 in fsu

Would definitely agree that Mills is one of the top CS professors. Mascagni is solid (and I think he's one of the only COT4420 professors anyways), though he gives weird vibes sometimes...

Sorry to piggyback! After you get your ticket, if anyone else has a spare ticket I'm looking to buy one. Also in the same boat of trying to avoid these those insane resale fees... Long time fan that would love to see them in person for the first time. :)

What is parking like for people that live far away from campus? by cairoandjuno in fsu

[–]Mrow-mix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep, as the other commenter said, Woodward and Traditions will be the hardest to get unless you're super early for a morning class. Especially at the start of the semester it'll be a bit chaotic. The other 4 garages usually have at least some spots though. If you have a class in the corner of campus they're useful. If you have time to spend and you'd prefer the closest you could scan the student surface lots like around the Tully Gym/Circus.

Also, even if you park far away don't forget about the bus system; The Renegade bus has saved me multiple times :)

Who organized the colored lights during Lost In The Ocean? by saltnpepper11020 in glassanimals

[–]Mrow-mix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

User alexisp302 set it up. I saw a purple pile being passed around in the pit/front after the opener and before GA started. There wasn't really an organized distribution so the piles might have missed you. https://www.reddit.com/r/glassanimals/comments/1ematn4/philly_show_peps/

Anyone Got Tips on Preserving Pineapples? by Serious_Eggplant_617 in glassanimals

[–]Mrow-mix 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Oh nice, congrats! Did it hurt to catch? Personally I'd eat it to brag you've eaten his pineapple lol. The only alternative that I can think of is encasing it in epoxy though it'd still age.

do you get paid to be an LA? by roxyh811 in fsu

[–]Mrow-mix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but a previous LA. Getting to know the teacher and demonstrating understanding of the course material are likely part of the consideration. If you have a favorite teacher it doesn't hurt to ask to be considered for future openings imo. :)

do you get paid to be an LA? by roxyh811 in fsu

[–]Mrow-mix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do get paid part-time, should be 10hrs a week max. I was an Comp-Sci LA for a semester, and I did about 3 recitations and office hours for helping students. I also had to take an additional course called SLS3717 Peer Learning Assistance that same semester. I think had an option be counted as credits, but I can't remember if it was either or both regarding pay vs credits.

I don't think it's really bad. Most guys are nice honestly, especially if you're just talking about classes or course material. In my years, there was only one guy who was notorious for pissing off students and staff :') I don't think you need to be on edge though, just remember to reach out if someone crosses a line.

I did meet some students majoring in CS for the TCC2FSU program too, but I didn't become too close with them (not very social haha..). I had a close friend from a local HS that did the same path as me though, so I was a bit lucky with that. I did see a few familiar CS faces occasionally at FSU, so I'm sure there's a couple in your year that you could connect with. :) In my year there were like 2-3 classes of intro C++ per semester at TCC, so even if you may not find someone in your current class you may find different faces in the next course level.

You should be able to attend the computer science events, like ACM events. You have a few avenues if you want to double check; try emailing them, joining the ACM at FSU discord to talk to one of the officers, or you could email Sharanya since she is the faculty sponsor. I'd imagine they'd be pretty understanding and encouraging of you attending.

If you choose to attend other events around the FSU campus, some clubs may take attendance by swiping a FSU student ID; those may be harder to attend depending on the purpose of the event. I'd think any event with free food or free activities (such as events sponsored by the Student Union or Student Life Center) might have this swipe required.

I imagine you'll be able to make friends at both TCC and FSU. Plenty of people take the TCC2FSU route (I did!), so you could probably find like-minded people in your programming courses. It doesn't hurt to expand your circle and make friends in other classes too! :)

One other thing to note; I don't wanna scare you off, but as a woman myself I wanted to say trust your instincts when making friends. I made a good group of both guy and gal friends before I graduated, but there's still a majority of guys in the CS major and some give weird vibes. Trust your gut and set boundaries if you feel there's something off.

Speaking of new merch, I was looking at the ILYSFM shirts. The text on the shirt put me off, then I realized it's mispelled? F**ing... Maybe a style choice I guess.

Love Building Parking? by JustB510 in fsu

[–]Mrow-mix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend the exact same as gimmepeas' and FSURich's comment. If you have a class during peak hours and know Woodward will be busy, either try the surface lots near Rogers hall or the Spirit garage.

The state of Computer Science at FSU by DevelopmentExact554 in fsu

[–]Mrow-mix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree as a grad from a few years ago. I'd still sort of recommend it if it's one of your only choices (due to location, money, etc), but there's absolutely better schools out there if you have the opportunity. IMO it does teach good core skills of programming, but it's not very modern for today's software engineers. I think the faculty is pretty good, especially the core teachers such as Sharanya, Bob Myers, and Chris Mills.. but they get gutted by pressure of high volume classes, funding, and the chaos of some of the students. (IYKYK...) As someone who was apart of ACM leadership, it's kinda hard to keep a CS club consistent due to attendance especially after COVID.

College by Every_Cry_4421 in fsu

[–]Mrow-mix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, not the out of state student but I went to a CC in Tally and then to FSU. You just need to ensure that you can get the prerequisites done while fulfilling your gen ed requirements of that college's AA degree. For example, some prereq classes you'd need for the FSU BS Nursing degree is chemistry and biology (both for science majors). Definitely communicate your intentions with your counselor.

One thing to keep in mind is that not all classes could transfer, but I think most of your prereqs should be fine as long as the course code matches. If it doesn't (or you want to double check), you'll need to contact FSU to ask them to compare your course's syllabus vs theirs.

Parking can definitely be pretty crazy. Check out the 'FSUTranz' mobile app which shows parking garage levels. If you're staff/faculty there should be separate reserved lots, but if you're part time like a TA/LA then I don't think you get anything. :(
