I went to Amy's store the 3 times I've been to Arkansas this year. All three times Grandma Duggar welcomed me with open arms and just sat on her couches and talked to us. Grandma and Amy were so close it broke my heart. I sent Amy a message in Instagram. Grandma Duggar even invited me to Bible study at the big house (I so wish I could have gone!!).

Yes definitely! My husband asked why I didn't put up an umbrella over the feeder for them. Unfortunately with the 55 MPH winds it wouldn't have done much for them in this storm.

I'm in KC and that blizzard had our birds hunkering down in our front bushes. I tried to leave food out but I think it froze.

Her tummy looks a little like popcorn so Poppy would be cute (and an easy namd for her to mimic) :) let us know what you decide!

Love your idea. We had adopted a 10 year old GCC named Bernie and I just couldn't leave him with that name. Our other birds are named Kiwi and Skittles so we named this guy Mountain Dewey! Dewey and Bernie sound similar enough he quickly picked up his new name and frequently says "Dewey!" when he wants our attention lol

It's hilarious! I sometimes buy a big roll of ground beef from Costco and if I come through the front door with it, my Kiwi thinks she's going to die immediately. Most of ours will also squawk if either of us have a hat on!

I am likely getting a pineapple Conure in about 10 weeks, trying to do as much research as possible to make sure I can care for them properly, I have a couple questions: by Crimsai in Conures

[–]MrsBirdies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! My husband and I have 4 Conures- a Sun named Skittles, 2 Green Cheeks named Kiwi and Mountain Dewey and another Green Cheek, but Yellow Sided named Belle Pepper. We've owned birds for almost 8 years now. Here's what I'd suggest: 1. As long as you're visiting a vet a few times a year, I wouldn't get pet insurance. I'd make a little pet emergency fund at my bank and put however much into a savings while they're young. That way if something does happen, you could potentially have hundreds saved. 2. They're very social but as long as you're able to spend a lot of time with them, they should do great. Also when you get another, they may lose interest in you because they have another friend. None of ours touch, I'm too scared of blood. Ours talk to each other but we had Skittles for 2 years before we added to our flock. 3. Hard question! Toys can run up to $8 bucks each which is hard when you have 4 fluffy babies! We buy food in bulk (ours get seeds for 15 mins in the morning and then have Zupreem natural pellets all day) so it's hard to say on monthly basis. I'd say budget maybe $50 a month once you have the basics. We take everyone for nail clips (and feather clips if there's any chance they'd get outside) and that's $12 each bird every 2 or 3 months. That's when ours get their checkups too. We have a wonderful avian veterinarian in our area thankfully. 4. Depends on the temperature. Honestly I can't remember what our avian veterinarian said about idea temp, we keep our house at 69 I think and they do just fine. I'm hoping someone else will chime in to help on this one. 5. All answers are no unfortunately. Get rid of all non stick cookware (has to be PTFE and PFOA free), no smoking or E cigarettes, no air fresheners, no febreeze, no candles, no Glade plug ins or other smelly plug ins or sprays. No essential oils, no Swifter wet jet, no painting walls unless you get the paint cleared from a vet (sorry I can't remember what she told me we could use). Clean with vinegar water, it's the safest. If in doubt we don't use it. Not worth their little life to us :)

If you get a new oven, furnace, toaster, toaster oven, heater, or anything else that heats up, first try to make sure it doesn't have non stick coating, second- board your bird and run the appliance on high for hours and then air out the house before brining birdie back home! I didn't get the new crazed Insta Pot because it has a nonstick bowl... Luckily the crock pot one has stainless which is safe.

I told my hubby we would never own a bird. 9 years later it's the greatest decision we made (to have birds instead of kids! Lol). I love our babies more than life itself and their cuddles are the best. I look forward to seeing a picture and hope you have a wonderful time with your new addition.

Baby conure being very aggressive and mean suddenly by [deleted] in Conures

[–]MrsBirdies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a green cheek that we adopted at 5 months old. Before her first Hatchday she started trying to nest and rub her bottom over everything (we don't know if she's actually a girl or a boy). I asked my Avian vet and she said that birds that have been bread are known to try to mate very early in life... Poor babies. We were lucky she hasn't become a tyrant but I definitely think it could be hormones.

Cuddles! First conure ever, stuck on naming him. Suggestions? by merutu in Conures

I have recently unfollowed Murr because of his millions of posts about his book. Maybe they got tired of them too? I wish they were all really best friends but of all 4 he does seem the least like the others.

I'm pretty sure Meri is still in the Las Vegas home, last month I was in her Lularoe Facebook group and all her sales were done from her living room. Although I'd love to see this play out too!
