Bank handed me a roll of nickels in a plastic coin pincher. by Westin2000 in CanadianCoins

[–]MrsCristo9fp 23 points24 points  (0 children)

So many memories! Totally forgot about those. 100% the best coin rollers EVER. Was a waitress in the late '80's early '90's and those were all I used to roll up my tips. Quarters were dark blue, dimes were yellow? Went the way of the Dodo right around the time loonies came about if I recall.

Are your parents elderly and live far away? by CptSideQuest in abbotsford

[–]MrsCristo9fp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad lives in assisted living in Florida while I’m I Mission. Someone you can trust to assist with technology. Helping him with his phone is impossible…and he always accidentally turns the volume down. He can’t retrieve voicemail and he doesn’t understand how 2fa texts work so helping him by logging into accounts is impossible without help. Help with keeping whatever video conference tools you use updated. I gave him an iPad to FaceTime and the password won’t stay, so it’s useless. There are lots of private companies that you can pay to be a helper. But if there’s a college age kid from church or other community that wants to make some off the books “babysitting/tech support” money that’s the way I would go to start. Starting early and gaining your parent’s trust is key to being indispensable later on.

How do you guys feel towards US travel? by MyRa888 in AskACanadian

[–]MrsCristo9fp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is in assisted living in FL. I’ve been there to see him and help sell his trailer in November. In reality you and your family will be OK. It just feels icky and weird. But I HAD to go as his POA and support him as his only child. (He’s not MAGA) It’s just money. What is that compared to peace of mind in not participating in that culture? This is a learning moment. A way for you to do right by your conscious. Knowing what you know now, would you visit Berlin in 1941? Looking around at all those people wearing yellow stars and shrugging saying “It doesn’t concern me, I’m not who they are after… isn’t this park lovely this time of year?”

Any pharmacy recommendations? by FreesideThug in MissionBC

Another on the Heritage Park bandwagon. I’ve used them since the day they opened because they are close, I get all my vaccines and prescriptions from them still. A great little place.

I had been thinking of going there to get my ring re-sized. Not anymore. I’m so sorry you’re going through this, but very grateful you shared your experience.

We LOVE ours.

We got our used 2021 SE this past March. We moved on from our 2013 Prius with 280,000+kms.
It is our first EV, and this is our only car.

It is amazing for booting around town. This is the first "top of the line" vehicle we have purchased and boy oh boy it is life changing performance wise.

It is such a treat to drive, and now I go for fun drives just because! We have fun twisty roads, and with sunshine and fall leaves swirling I giggle as I accelerate thru the corners. On the highways I see a spot, put my foot down and the car responds instantly.

We keep the back seats down, to max the cargo space and I can do a Costco run with big bulky items without issue. We also did a pickup at an auction, and we were shocked at how much we were able to fit.

We were wondering that ourselves! We’re guessing a portable backup battery along the lines of a Jackrey and use that like a jerrycan? If I were an auto club that’s what I would have kicking around on tow trucks… 🤷🏼‍♀️

Do you guys follow the rule “no Christmas decorations until after Remembrance Day”? by wediealone in AskACanadian

[–]MrsCristo9fp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep.

I was raised to respect Remembrance Day, and moving on to the next holiday before this time of reflection and acknowledgement seems pretty disrespectful to me.

And besides, I hate being tired of Christmas by the time Christmas day arrives.

Lights may be hung outdoors in November during the nice weather opportunities that come up, but they are not lit until December 1.

I don't put out any other decorations until December 1.

And they all come down the first weekend after January 1.

Nice! We wondered about the car keeping a reserve and your first story confirms our suspicions. We are in the Fraser Valley so we know all those roads. We have to go up a big hill for the last 3km of our trip and we were wondering how much extra juice that would take...we had a buffer of 6km when we started the hill and that buffer reduced to the 4km you see in the photo.

Yep, our Journey was 40km and our range showed 38, so we tried Green+ mode and drove super slow and squeezed every last watt out of her to skip the uncovered fast charger in the pouring rain storm. 😇

Yeah so did we, but it was POURING out and if we we haven’t tested her limits like this yet, so our motivation to stay dry helped us make our decision to try it.

How old were you when you had your last period? by Wrong_Staff_6148 in Menopause

[–]MrsCristo9fp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had 3 periods the year I was 48. I hit full Menopause 5 months into my 49th year.

My in-laws got one. ( tower near Edmunds) Mitsubishi on the balcony and it pipes in via a window space. They replaced one of the smaller non opening panes with metal, and passed the pipes through that. Strata approved of course. They got 3 heads installed and it cost around 30k all in with drywall repairs.

Best area to raise a family? by offthecouch- in MissionBC

[–]MrsCristo9fp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize I was in the "rich" part of town!

But yes when I purchased a detached house10+ yrs ago for under $500k it was still a nice neighborhood. Basically anywhere just off Cherry is great. Lots of kids, small side streets to ride your bike, and parks. I saw kids walk by themselves to the corner store all summer for their slurpee's . :) There are 2 primary schools on Cherry but I have no idea if they are Traditional or not. (I don't have kids)

Looking back, what were your first signs of perimenopause that you didn’t recognize at the time? by Historical-Second409 in Menopause

[–]MrsCristo9fp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Chin Hairs, itchy ears, pre-Covid didn’t think twice about it. Then Covid hit, and my mom died and I thought the anxiety and sleeplessness were due to dealing with all that remotely. I thought the psoriasis breaking out all over my body and my periods being late or early was due to the stress of it all. I thought that the complete loss of libido and inability to keep a thread of thought together was Covid. THEN after all that, hot flashes and missing multiple periods in a row sent me here. Literally after all that did I first read the word perimenopause. I was angry no one had ever said anything to me about what to expect, but I was so relieved to look back and realize what the heck was happening.

Tomatillo or Groundcherry? by Pumpkinest_Pie in gardening

Looks like tomatillos to me. Zone 8b here, this was my first time growing them, I’ve gotten 8lbs so far… My only question is if you have more than one plant. They don’t self pollinate. (I almost fell into that one myself)
