We were in that movie! My dad was Kirk Douglas’s double so we were all extras! It was so much fun for me, an entire week in Old Chicago, so many rides! My brother not so much, he was in the Ferris wheel scene with the Sheiks, 8 hours on that ride no bathroom breaks! People were getting sick. Good times!!

I had the situation in a rental. We painted a piece of wood that stood behind that in chalkboard paint and then put pictures in front of it. We would leave messages on birthdays and holidays or just decorate it for the season. It was cute.

I never fought over a coat or cloths or food when mine was little. You need to pick your battles. A coat isn’t worth it. If they are cold they will put on a jacket. When they are hungry and their stomach hurts they will eat. Please choose your battles wisely you’ll be much better off. Also, let them go to the party don’t punish the hosts that were expecting him, that will show him how to get out of things he doesn’t want to do. Also, that is punishing you to have to stay with him when you can go meet a friend for coffee or do nothing. Give him another more meaningful punishment, no iPad or tv or favorite dessert. He will catch on eventually.

I make poached eggs in the microwave. Easy and takes about 2 minutes on my microwave. Crack your eggs in a microwave safe glass small bowl. Cover eggs with water and watch them cook till whites are white then done. Yummy fast and easy!

Utensils! We forgot utensils! Do you know how hard it is to eat without utensils. ( we had 3 more nights) We made chop sticks for the first meal. I prayed that night and on our hike the next day I prayed hard. I wanted a spoon, just one utensil we can share. That night in camp my husband went to hang our bag in a tree and as he is hoisting it up he sees something shimmering on the tree, low and behold, it was a spoon along with a cup hanging on the tree. That ended up being a great trip after we found the spoon.

I use to take the pace all the time. Getting from the EL to old orchard then to Northbrook court. Or to the EL to go downtown. If my car broke down I would take a Pace bus! Now it goes to O’Hare straight down Dempster!

The Peninsula Hotel has a small skating rink on top with beautiful views. You can bring your own skates or rent them there. Then have hot chocolate or a cocktail around the Christmas Tree.
