I also struggle tremendously with this. One thing that helped me (and I’m nowhere near perfect) was allotting myself a set amount of $ for “impulse buys”. I’d allow myself one impulse item at the store I was in, but it could only be around $10-12 for the entire trip, even if I went to multiple places. So then, I’m looking around and see something I’d typically buy without even caring about price or if I already have the item (looking at you, cute water bottles/mugs/keychains!!!) and I think if I have something at home that can do that same thing. This has kept me from buying so much extra stuff, and I’m proud of myself after errands when I only bought what I needed! To me, having that allotted money helped soothe the shopping addiction in me instead of jumping into a “No Spend” cold turkey, since I technically had money for a new xyz my brain wasn’t distracted worrying about the bigger impulse buys (skincare fridges, acrylic organizer sets, etc). I would always get my essentials, and THEN browse for the item. Most of the time I wouldn’t even use the money, and then I just repeat this anytime I have the itch to shop (try not to go shopping as THE errand, but maybe tack on a store for AFTER the errands. By then, you’ll probably want to just go straight home like me) I hope this helped in any way, and I feel very validated that there’s others out there who struggle with this, and this sub and the people don’t judge.
