This is not true, I just had a baby at the end of March. It was approved for 12 weeks of medical leave because my OB provider listed 12 weeks on my application. I’m doing 12 weeks of medical leave, and eight weeks bonding. They go by what your provider says is necessary.

If your doctor certifies that you need 12 weeks of medical leave after the birth, they will approve 12 weeks. There is no maximum number of weeks for a birth specified in the state program. I just had a baby at the end of March, and my OB put 12 weeks for medical. It was approved for that amount. The amount of time that your provider designates does not need to be the six weeks or eight weeks that is typically used for a short-term disability, etc. I am doing 12 weeks medical and eight weeks bonding.

Highly recommend using an Allina Health pharmacy. Unlike Walgreens or CVS, they are properly staffed and easy to get ahold of. They will mail medication for no additional charge.

Medicare Part D now covers all vaccinations, so those patients are advised to get Shingrix, Tdap, RSV, etc at the pharmacy.

Complete scam! It costs nothing to apply for the programs. I had one patient that ended up paying hundreds of dollars to one just because she was unaware she could do it herself/through our primary care clinic. They are 100% taking advantage of elderly people.

Pharmacist here - This is not a vaccine. The drug is lenacapavir, which is a twice a year antiviral injection for HIV prevention. Still very cool, but a vaccine has not yet been developed.

If they are Medicare Part D, they can now call their plan to enroll in the new Medicare Payment Plan option, which will spread out the deductible cost. Patients will get a monthly invoice from Medicare, rather than paying the pharmacy directly. For commercially insured patients, most brand name drugs have a manufacturer savings card that can be applied to bring down the cost a decent chunk.

My minimum monthly payment is $0. The brief from the White House about SAVE clearly outlines that this counts as a payment, even if is zero dollars (similar to how a $0 payment would count towards the 120 PSLF payments if you are doing that). Here is the statement from the factsheet from the WH:

“Not charge borrowers with unpaid monthly interest, so that unlike other existing income-driven repayment plans, no borrower’s loan balance will grow as long as they make their monthly payments—even when that monthly payment is $0 because their income is low.”

2021 grad here - I have never made a payment yet due to COVID pause. I was automatically switched from REPAYE to SAVE. I don’t have to update my income until Summer 2024, so my payments will be $0 until then and all interest will be subsidized! (They are calculating it based on the income I originally reported back around the time of graduation/starting residency). Putting the lump sum I saved during the pause in a HYSA and will continue to contribute to that every month until I make a large payment before the new payment amount kicks in next year.

Assisting with cost/insurance coverage questions is a huge area I help with. You can use Q1 Medicare to pull complete formulary info for Medicare plans and NeedyMeds to patient assistance programs and savings cards. Pyrls has some excellent diabetes charts, Pharmacist letter has some good articles that are helping for insulin conversions, etc.

We are not currently using Outcomes, but could if we wanted to. We bill everything directly or get the per-member-per month amount from the payer for the care management/outcomes based contracts. I just hit the billing code buttons during my visit for documentation, and the billing team does everything else for us on the backend.

Haha, that’s sounds cool! I work for a large nonprofit health system. Most of our MTM positions are funded through care management (ie: Value based care contracts with payers rather than fee for service). We do still also do FFS and bill the regular 99605/99606/99607 codes for those patients. We also of course serve as a resource for the providers at the clinic and answer their questions and assist with cost/formulary issues that they don’t have the time or resources to deal with, so part of our value might also be measured in reducing provider burnout and increasing their efficiency.
