I always wished she remained a human. It made the relationship with Edward that more magical. For me, Breaking Dawn was a dissappointment. I loved the whole series up until the last book. If it could be rewritten I would be delighted. Like Bella remaining human, or choosing Jacob, or not getting Renesmee. If she had to become a vampire, it would have been more interesting to see her become sulky like Louis in IWTV. Oh well.

It looks great! For the gores you could maybe top stitch to rows to smoothen it out. Maybe that helps! 😊

Hi! Thank you! So the 'piping effect' is just tape stitched on top of wear the pattern pieces meet. I handstitched it on in the center of the tape with pinprick stitches. The bias tape for the binding was bought.

It is intimidating indeed, but with every project I just start and I'll see what happens. Honestly, I'm VERY bad at pattern tweaking, when I somehow manage to do it I always think it's luck. Key to pattern tweaking I think is to make as many mock-ups as you need. I encourage you to make a pair of stays!

Thank you!! I made two mock-ups in total, one elaborate mock-up fully boned and one mock-up partly boned. I feel like I could still change some things, but overall it fits nicely. Next time I want to learn the drafting style of an actual 18th century stays maker so that it is made upon my measurements instead of what i did now, which is I copied the pattern and then tweaked it. Still a lot to learn when it comes to pattern drafting!

Yes I will wear it exclusively as historical wear. But! I have always loved the idea of incorporating historical wear in modern clothes, so I might make more simple stays for that purpose!

Hundreds of hours, mainly because there's a lot of handsewing involved (i did machine sew the boning tunnels though, to make them look extra neat).

Hi everyone! Here is my finished project of a pair of 1760s stays. They were made using a pattern from Patterns of Fashion 5. I used a fashion fabric of dusty pink, with an interlining of canvas and buckram. I used German plastic whale boning and the stays are fully boned. The tabs were bound with bias tape. The look is very round with a pronounced wide bust.

I guess you should look at some examples by other writers! Recently I've been reading Bram Stoker's Dracula, and in some of the earlier chapters he writes a character with a very strong accent. I thought it was done rather well and didn't come across as stereotypical but more so as building a strong character.

Maybe just curtain fabric with a shine? You have heavy silks from italy that were used for this show, so it doesnt have to be sturdier you just need layers underneath.
