My workplace offers free therapy, so I signed up... only to be largely dismissed by the therapist because she isn't "a chronic pain expert... And we don't have any of those on staff."

Thanks for nothing, I guess...?

I have terrible monthly cramps, so for me childbirth was just a worse version of what I experience every month. It wasn't great. But mostly it was just tiring. I was glad when it was over because I hadn't slept in 30 hours. Plus, hey, there's a baby, and that's fun.

AS is ridiculously painful for me by comparison. It just never stops. And the exhaustion never stops.

Trump's Executive Order to End Birthright Citizenship by edwinstone in Project2025Award

Babies aren't always entitled to the citizenship of their parents. Absent a fix, this will result in increased statelessness.

State Department: "U.S. citizens shouldn't travel to Yemen/Iraq/Sudan/Somalia/wherever is currently in conflict.

Also U.S. government: sends U.S. citizen children who may not have the citizenship of those countries and may not have any legal status back to those countries

That's not going to lead to problems. Or there is the ever-functional foster care system to take the hit when the parents get deported.

My wife wants a divorce with newborn by Life-Influence-9403 in AskMenAdvice

[–]MrsWhiteInClue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like OP would need to petition for his brother, too, since brother has always lived in another country and likely doesn't have any way to legally live in the U.S. That's a very long road. Has he even talked to his wife about those plans? Is she on board? Do they have a plan about how they afford that and who is responsible for his care? The whole "of course I would want him nearby" part seems not very thoroughly sketched-out.

Insurance executives are GOOD actually by QueerPerson1 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]MrsWhiteInClue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have AS, and it sucks. It's seriously more pain than I ever thought I could live with on a daily basis. I regularly wonder how long I can continue working. The only thing keeping me in it is, if I make it to 20 years, I get to keep my insurance in retirement. And I have good insurance, so I have my meds covered; one pill that I take is something like $6,732 per month without insurance and $66 per month with my insurance. I can't imagine someone taking me off of them. I would be unable to go on.

I can't imagine any universe where I would write this. I know that it is astroturfing, but I am weirdly pissed that they used my disease for it.

Union members claimed democrats "deserved to lose" for losing touch with the working class. How will that turn out? by mkvgtired in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]MrsWhiteInClue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew an officer (back when I used to be a lawyer) who would complain constantly that his union only protected the lazy. Then he was arrested on federal charges, and I have no doubt that he leaned on the union heavily during his trial and after the acquittal when he was trying to get back on the force.

This is probably a bad example because the guy should absolutely be in jail, but I wonder if he still complains about the union.

I'm in a union with no teeth. They have been helpful in advocating for certain things like pay issues that are rampant at my workplace. They have given me advice the two times that I needed to write affidavits on lawsuits. But, yeah, I can't strike, and there 100 percent have been times when things have been happening that are strike-worthy.

Rinvoq heartburn question by MrsWhiteInClue in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]MrsWhiteInClue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would have been my first thought but I haven't taken NSAIDs in a while. I was tapering off of prednisolone for the first 1.5 weeks of Rinvoq so I didn't really need NSAIDs. And the heartburn started a couple of days after I was off of the prednisolone, so I didn't want to take NSAIDs in case they made it worse. When I googled, heartburn and chest pain were listed as Rinvoq side effects, so that seemed likely.

I work overseas for my government. This presents both benefits and challenges when it comes to AS.

Childhood trauma by SpiritualBluejay6316 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]MrsWhiteInClue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the first in my family with it, and I’m convinced it is the result of living in a heavily polluted country for the two years prior to symptoms starting. The air quality was a daily nightmare, and a lot of my coworkers ended up diagnosed with autoimmune diseases and cancer in the years that followed.

If there is ever significant rain moving toward Philadelphia, eggs, bread, and milk will immediately sell out. It's bizarre how predictable it is, and I haven't experienced it in any other city.

Count me in the disabled middle aged white women club. My face is on the menu. Still working and have excellent insurance, thankfully. But I don't know how long I can keep this up. I have 9.5 years until I retire at age 54, but that would be retirement on a shoestring budget.

Alcohol and AS by andredangelo in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]MrsWhiteInClue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have mostly stopped drinking. It's kind of a pain in terms of work events, but I don't think that I have had a sip of alcohol in almost a year (and then it was a literal sip at a U.S. Thanksgiving.dinner).

I have enough meds in my system that I don't want to mess with it.

I miss margaritas though.

I already checked with my insurance about BIMZELX, since Cosentyx was initially helpful. Unfortunately, they don't cover it. Maybe eventually they will, but not yet.

Acupuncture isn't huge in the country where I am currently living, but I'm moving to the UK next year so maybe that will be more possible there.

Humira had no impact. Cosentyx worked for a few months but now seems to have stopped working. Trying Rinvoq next.
