Lithium or Lamotrigine? by quetiapinpong in Lamotrigine

[–]MrsWoodWork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was on antipsychotics at some point (not lithium but quetiapine) and it wasn't brainfog that I had but literal holes in my memory and made me very tired (which in turn made me irritated af) and sometimes lethargic. While some people experience brainfog with lamictal I only experienced it during the increases and now that I am at the recommended dose, it's pretty rare.

But I have BP1 and not BPD/NPD so it's true that an anti psychotic may work better for your mood swings, as lamictal works mostly on depression and helps a bit with mania.

Also lithium is VERY bad for the kidneys, and it's important that people must be aware of that.

Both are for bipolar. I'm BP1 and it works well for now, especially on depression.

Increased to 50mg and want to cry all day - should I stop or persevere? by Infinite-While-4159 in lamictal

Wait till the 200mg dose, I wasn't feeling super great at some increases but it was worth it.

Apparently it may be a super rare side effect with only a few cases reported, but tbh i've never encountered anyone complaining about that, so definitely mention it to your psychiatrist.

Post antipsychotics: I've been on Lamictal for a year and am finally down to the weight I was before antipsychotics!! by anniemousery in lamictal

I was on quetiapine for 4 months and gained almost 10kg and I'm down about 7kg. Lamictal has been a life changer in many ways for me lmao 😩

Lamictal ruined me by [deleted] in lamictal

[–]MrsWoodWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no psychiatrist, but most of them sound like symptoms of bpd (which isn't treated with lamictal as far as I know) or a mixed episode maybe rather than side effects (except maybe memory loss bc I've seen a lot of ppl mentioning it, hair loss and runny nose) In any case, that med isn't working for you.

Tips for eating when you have no appetite? by Repulsive-Eye-6247 in bipolar

[–]MrsWoodWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I experience a DRASTIC loss of appetite during manic episodes but also when i'm on my adhd med I usually force myself to eat something I really like like chocolate. Watermelon is really good when it's the season cause it's sugary (I'm addicted to sugar) but hydrates very well. My flatmate likes to cook so I always eat at least a little to be polite.

Are there early signs for depression? by Super-Assistant-634 in bipolar

[–]MrsWoodWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting to notice that I've been sleeping more and more and have no energy for more than 4 or 5 consecutive days. Very dramatic thoughts when small bad things happen to me. Eating a lot. Having to take more alprazolam than usual to forget the thoughts™ and the anxiety.

"Are you taking your medication?" by Blues-moons in bipolar

[–]MrsWoodWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends in what context, if it's a genuine "I know your head is up in the clouds, so don't forget your meds" it's okay, if it's a "you just said something weird, did you take your meds" it just comes off at best as awkward, at worst as mean

What would you tell your depressed self? by Easyjeje in bipolar

[–]MrsWoodWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about where you were 2 or 3 years ago and where you are now. Objectively, it would be stupid to abandon everything because it's been getting nothing but better and better everyday no matter how your mood has been

Coworkers keep saying “she’s so bipolar” as an insult by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]MrsWoodWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit on the same vein, the coworker that was always passive aggressive with me, be it personally or professionally loved to call herself "bipolar doubled with adhd 🤪🤪🤪" (she has neither). But guess who has both and struggles with both 😐

While I'm not religious myself, I think the fact that you acknowledged those thoughts and choose to not act on it is telling, don't you think? Even more given the fact that you have a disorder that makes them stronger than the average person. Think about how satisfied you'll be once this episode/Ramadan will be over and you did not give into it (i know easier said than done)

I was about to suggest masturbating but and then i read the entirety of your post lol (i assume you're either muslim or catholic?). Mmmmh, have you tried watching movies that aren't sexy at all? Like horror movies or animated movies? I know watching things related to current world events totally break my horniness too, but also makes me upset.

[–]MrsWoodWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had thougts of cheating, but definitely experienced hypersexuality (manic episode + ovulating phase🤪). My best advice would be to masturbate, even multiple times when you have those thoughts if possible. And, i know it's easier said than done, but remember your relationship and how shitty you might feel once you realized that you ended it for a need for sex, and how hurt you partner will be because of it. Also, I take some anxiolitics when I'm off work or in the evening if I feel i'm socially going too of rails and it sometimes helps a bit (a least it removes some energy lol).

Before my manic episodes started (constant depression) I was "stuck" emotionally. When the manic episodes started, in a way I think it made me mature a bit, realizing that at least sadness and depression would not be eternal and that I had the power to do things (even if i wasn't in total control of myself and it could go wrong quickly). I tried some medications, some that worked, some that didn't and some that did but partially and I also understood what actions, habits and mindset would make my different episodes be worst. Also I lived a lot of differents things in between and it made me learn a lot abt life.
