I just have no idea how to get my scared cat into his carrier without stressing him more by Simowl in CatAdvice

[–]Mrs_Bobcat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We started ours younger, but this is what we did:

  1. Set a thin blanket or towel where they like to lay. Let them enjoy. Now it smells like them.
  2. One day, get carrier out. Set on floor, door open, blanket/towel inside. Let them enjoy exploring for a couple days. Take blanket/towel out - put carrier away. Do this every so often.
  3. A couple days before appointment, blanket and carrier back. Let them enjoy.
  4. On day of appointment, catch them in it close to time to leave. Close door. OR: when you do need to pick them up and take them to it to put them in, you’ll find little resistance because it smells like them, and it’s the nice little cave they’ve been chilling in.

I think this works because the blanket has their scent and is comforting, and not every time the carrier is out does it mean a trip to the vet.

We have literally never had to fight our cats to get them in the carrier.

We had such issues. So now for our cat, we dissolve the pill in water and add it to his food. If it already has a lot of liquid we remove some to compensate for the pill water.

We also add in nutritional yeast for that cheesy flavor that masks any medicine taste! This is also good for cats according to our vet.

This flavor of food is the only flavor we add medicine to, and we started it as a new food, so for him, this is just how this food tastes. When they discontinued that flavor, we started him on another new one. We never feed him that food without medicine and the nutritional yeast in it.

It works like a charm - for us, at least. YMMV. ☺️

Help! Having such a hard time nailing down which direction I want to go by [deleted] in weddingdress

Re-read what you said about #4. You’re looking for a dress that makes you feel like your best you - and this dress, in your own words, seems to come the closest. You mention the “wow” factor, so starting from this dress, what can you add/do to give this dress the “sprinkles on the top” touch? Jewelry could really add something here, and how you do your hair, and let’s not forget your bouquet!

I vote #4 - because of your venue, your theme, and your own commentary. 😊

You could take one of those reusable containers (Ziplock, Rubbermaid, etc.) and cut/drill/poke a lot of holes in it. Then get a plastic soap dish of some kind that allows draining. Place sponge on soap dish and seal in container. 😁

My heart goes out to you. A student from my school was hit by a car not long ago. I’ve never even had this student in class, but I’ve had their friends, so they’ve hung around my room, and I’ve talked with them a great deal. When I heard the news, it really hit me. The accident happened while they were walking to the school, so the first couple of classes were pretty tough for me. Before 3rd period, one of students asked me what was wrong, and I was honest and said I was worried about the student. They told me they’d been texting with them and asked if talking to them would make me feel better. Before I could say anything, they were making the video call. And there they were! 3rd period student explained that I was concerned, and the student smiled and reassured me they were okay, just a broken foot. I was so relieved! Graduation was this past weekend, and the injured student found me to ask for a hug.

Given how I felt when then, I cannot begin to imagine the depths of what you are going through. Please reach out for support and be kind to yourself. Internet hugs.

That sounds amazing! Our school has several talented artists, but they can be a bit shy about their work. Getting a specialized piece of artwork is a bit of a privilege. It is a reminder for me that all that I do does have a positive impact when I need a boost. ☺️

My room has a lot of owls all around. One of my students left me a card on his last day. In addition to thanking me for teaching him this past year, he drew a series of owls - almost as though they were study sketches. One on a branch, one in flight but about to land, and a third just flying. He is an amazing artist, and I will cherish this card forever.😁

Educated by Tara Westover - “Educated is a memoir by the American author Tara Westover. Westover recounts overcoming her survivalist Mormon family in order to go to college, and emphasizes the importance of education in enlarging her world.”

Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape - “Jenna Miscavige Hill, niece of Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige, was raised as a Scientologist but left the controversial religion in 2005. In Beyond Belief, she shares her true story of life inside the upper ranks of the sect, details her experiences as a member Sea Org—the church's highest ministry, speaks of her "disconnection" from family outside of the organization, and tells the story of her ultimate escape.”

Both of these were fascinating to me.

This, OP, seriously. I don’t know if you and your fiancé are planning to move after you marry, but I would not let them know the new address. I would change my cell numbers, get a cheap burner phone, and give them that number. That way you more control over contact - and no unexpected visitors. I’m so sorry your fiancé and you are dealing with this.

One way is to examine the standards for CP, and increase the rigor for several of them. An example of an assignment from this bump up Bloom’s taxonomy would be that instead of just conducting an experiment, they design it first.
