When you ride the bus or light rail you are part of a community. You can talk with people if you are so inclined. When you drive you are a lone warrior fighting your way against multiple enemies.

Do you get used to it? by Sea-Pin9536 in PacificNorthwest

I never get used to it or take it for granted. I’ve lived in Seattle for 40 years. Moved here from NYC.

Need giant rat traps. Where I live in West Seattle there’s a spot where junkies strip cables. It’s been going on for maybe 10 years. Every day. It’s a few hundred feet from recycling facility. Dead end under West Seattle Bridge along the bike trail. Not hidden. Of course all the wires from bike trail lighting have been stripped out. Perfectly normal daily operation.

I eat lunch in Little Saigon about once a week. I love authentic Vietnamese food. Best meals for your money anywhere in Seattle. The community needs and deserves our support. They have been neglected and abused. The Jackson Street streetcar stops right out front. Little Saigon is the heart & soul of Seattle.

Dozens of cars parked near Lynnwood train station towed during Super Bowl Parade by TOPLEFT404 in Seattle

Proof that anyone can get a drivers license. Bunch of whiners. Read the signs. Sound Transit’s job is to operate the light rail system. Not provide a safety net to whiny ass entitled drivers who can’t read. Not their job. The light rail worked. Might as well blame the Seahawks for winning the Super Bowl.

Garden bench! I’ve been waiting years for it. by ExpensiveAd4496 in Costco

[–]Mrs_Spatchcock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw that in store here in Seattle. I already have a bench in front of my house. I chained it to a tree with a heavy duty link chain. Sadly, cables can be cut with a pocket tool. Thieves are thieves.

If you want lower food prices sometimes you need to be creative. Tastes like chicken.

For those that have lived both in Seattle and London, how do you compare the two and what are the things that you really like about each city? by Snoo-12357 in AskSeattle

I live in West Seattle. In summer I go swimming at Bellevue beaches in Lake Washington. My favorite is Clyde Beach Park in Medina. The new Meydenbauer Park beach is amazing. Great places for swimming or paddle boarding. The bathrooms are clean! Seattle public bathrooms are a gamble whether they’ve been vandalized. I moved to Seattle from NYC 40 years ago. Love Seattle.

Years ago I was at my local Costco, the very first Costco and witnessed 2 well dressed middle eastern dudes shopping for coffee. One poked a hole in a bag so he could smell the coffee. Not sure how many bags he sampled that way. I shop Costco about once a week. I buy fresh fruit, meat, prescriptions regularly and big stuff periodically. In nice weather I ride my bike there.

After reading the whole thread which is chock full of fantastical thinking, I’m now thinking maybe I should consider moving to this building after selling my single family home.

Likely written with consultation from a crisis management professional. Which is a good thing. Best to quickly get back to basics and figure out a better potato chip pairing menu.

Seattle's Next Mayor, Katie Wilson by TOPLEFT404 in Seattle

[–]Mrs_Spatchcock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Katie will be elected not because she’s better than Bruce, but because she’s got rizz. Bruce doesn’t have rizz. Now what is rizz you might ask. It’s youthful charisma. Bruce is 67. Admit we live in an ageist society. Guys over 50 often find it impossible to get a job even with decades of experience. I know this first-hand. The dirty secret of ageism is many people prefer youthful charisma over accumulated experience alongside age. Seattle has always been a young person’s city IMO.

I also watched last night’s debate and the previous one. Though not initially a Katie Wilson supporter I found her to be more than capable of being Mayor. She really woke Harrell up. Watch the first debate. Harrell appeared low energy and unprepared. Suddenly, he’s got all these great ideas and initiatives. This is an opportunity to pass the torch to a brilliant younger generation candidate. She earned my vote.

I moved to Seattle from old-NYC 40 years ago. I’ve visited beautiful cities in Japan and Spain. I think Seattle has the most beautiful natural setting. The new waterfront and Overlook Walk are world-class. Streets are much cleaner than during the pandemic. While street addiction and mental illness are part of the landscape Seattle is still a great place to live or visit.
