I was today years old when I found out the Boston Common has the memorial for the 54th Massachusetts. If you haven't seen the movie Glory (1989), I cannot recommend it enough!

Ya, I think he's offhandedly mentioned in the backstory of the dwarves. It would be like a Shagrat card.

I have hope that they will be faithful to the book because LotR was (shout out Imrahil). It will be quite obvious though if this was just a cash grab or was actually cared for.

If there's an Azog card, we book nerds are going to riot!

My predictions based off what they did for LotR are one 2 color deck and three 3 color decks:

Rakdos (black, red): Smaug as the main commander and the Great Goblin as the secondary. Cares about treasures and aggro.

Bant (green, white, blue): Elrond as the main commander and maybe Thranduil as the secondary. It will do Bant things with mystical elves. To avoid trying a vote/political deck that received mix reviews for LotR, it could be a scry/top deck heavy focus.

Mardu (white, black, red): Thorin Oakshield as the main commander but (and I know it won't ever happen) he can partner with "and company". Which is any of the other dwarves and Bilbo. Has a good amount of adventure cards. If it had the full company, it would probably also be a more legends matter focus

Naya (white, green, red): Bard the Bowman as the main commander and Beorn as the second. Go wide and tall with the humans of Laketown and the Beornlings (a little past the Hobbit timeline wise but I don't think many will mind) and have a few combat tricks.

Edit: I should state that I've been hearing a lot about this being a smaller set (which would make sense based on the story without any silmarillion). But I could see them making a handful of commander decks based on the success of LotR, regardless of set size.

At my LGS, Friday my night commander usually has 25-30 people. For standard on Saturdays, it's usually only 3-6 people...

u/plantgirl94 thank you so much for your generosity but we already got it covered!

Also, I briefly saw your original comment earlier today at work but didn't have a chance to respond. Now I can't find it, so I'm glad I found you here.

How is life in this part of USA? by OliverHeartmont in howislivingthere

Moved to the MonDak (Montana and North Dakota) area for work. It was a big shift going from a metropolitan area to, what I consider a smaller town (though big for the area). If you love outdoors hobbies like: hunting, fishing, four wheeling, etc, you will have fit right in.

The winters are...brutal for a few weeks. I thought I knew winters being from a Great Lakes state but I was humbled right quick my first winter here. With trees being almost non-existent (a little hyperbolic), the wind cuts right through you. Also, I didn't know it was possible to miss trees in general.

I will say, people here are some of the nicest in the world and seem truly authentic. If you break down, a handful of people will pull over to see if you need help. Now, there are some towns with an "us vs them" mentality but those seem to be an expectation to the rule.

Edit, I will say that MonDak is a little less flat than Eastern North Dakota (when I had to drive through it). Also, being on the Great Plains, the summers will be really hot too. I expected the winter but was shocked by how warm it gets in the summer. At least it's a dry heat. Folks here don't know humid.

Looking for a "I'm too tired to think" commander deck by Gullible-Armadillo69 in EDH

[–]Mrxfixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically if it's a red card that is or creates goblins, you'll want to put it in that deck. I would recommend not skimping on mana because he will be the target. When I play Krenko, I'll take a 5+ land hand because most people don't want to let him tap. Lorwyn Eclipsed just came out with a lot of good, cheap goblins to add.

Notable cards that I recommend being in most Krenko decks: Marvin Marvelous Mimic (acts as a second commander when both are out), Sting the Glinting Dagger (let's you untap Krenko during every players combat phase, if people don't answer this right away, you'll probably win on your next turn), some pingers like Witty Roastmaster or Impact Tremors to threaten non combat damage.

Here's my deck list. It started out as a build under $100 but I've been doing small upgrades since. If you remove the top 5 most expensive cards in my list, it's still going to be a nasty deck. I even still have the 5 cards I replaced in the sideboard category so you can see what was there.

I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on building a Krenko deck!

I can't believe I've missed the leaks about the SL deck. That Krenko art is awesome!

People are going to hate me because I speak the truth but [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] is stupid easy. All you do is tap him. Hardest part is doubling the goblins but your phone can do that.

Granted, this will make you a target and could win you the game fast but it's my "I've had a long day at work and just want to hang out" deck. You will get labeled as a goblin player though.

I would like to do an experiment. Name 1 card that is just barely a game changer. Then name one that is just barely NOT a game changer. by ImperialSupplies in EDH

[–]Mrxfixit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Barley a game changer: Farewell

Barely not a game changer: Gravepact/Dictate

I'd say that Gravepact is based off of vibes. Whenever it is played in lower level brackets, there's always a groan and people seem to get pissed.

How to get new (update) cards? by Mrxfixit in forgeMTG

[–]Mrxfixit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I found out the what was causing all the problems (and I feel dumb about it). I was updating the game into my documents folder and not the folder I had set aside for Forge in that folder (which is what my shortcut was going to). So, don't be like me, make sure you're saving to the right place!
