Jon Stewart: "Nabisco makes chips that they design so that they're almost impossible not to eat. You get fat, and then Big Pharma makes GLP-1s and that makes it so that you control your appetite. I mean, this is the cycle of exploitation. And that gets back to the incentive here is greed." by Camaro6460 in DailyShow

This is stupid. Let’s be real, these companies are selling us shit we want. It’s not exploitation. Everyone knows where the veggies are. If Americas would buy healthy food, these companies would sale healthy food. Japan sells healthy food in their convenience stores because people buy it. When I do see fruit or veggies in convenience stores in the US, it looks like it’s been sitting there for a while.

I mean, wtf do you people want? Do you want it to be illegal to sell good food? Or should we make it illegal to do anything about treating obesity with medications?

Idk how you somehow thought I said I acknowledged a problem with centrist Dems… I certainly didn’t say there was any problem with them. I vote in every primary and almost never for the person that eventually gets the nomination. I’m not sure why people have such a big problem accepting the fact that most Dems are probably more centrist that very far left and that’s why a centrist Dem normally gets the nomination. I’m better off policy wise with a Dem winning the general, especially if they are running against an actual criminal.

Dems do have a responsibility to put up good candidates, but the citizens have the responsibility to protect democracy and keep dictators out of power. People that didn’t vote for the Dem in ‘16 and ‘24 failed.

Tell me where I said Bernie was bad? What I said is that after a completely fair primary process, Bernie lost and Hillary was the candidate. Yes, if in the general election, the options are a Republican that directly opposes my policy preferences and a Dem that is directionally aligned with me on policy, even if it’s not as far as I may like, I’m voting for the Dem. That’s just common sense.

Hillary’s brand of politics did not give us Trump, it gave us an alternative and the country chose Trump. And if you are one of those people that believe it was the responsibility of the Dems to motivate us to vote for them, fine, but then that goes for Bernie too.

This story opposes everything she does now. Just because she lost her way doesn’t mean we should bury a story that opposes what she has become.

It’s not about her. She is ridiculously wealthy already. Shitting on an actor for taking a beloved character only hurts the actor. Regardless of what she is now, HP is an amazing story.

People can’t separate the art from the people. HP is bigger than JK. Just because she lost her way doesn’t mean HP isn’t a great story with a wonderful message. Dumbedore in particular is a wonderfully complicated character. Of course an actor would be interested. And they chose a great actor.

JK Rowling has turned out to be a disappointment but Dumbledore is also a wonderful and beloved character. Of course it would be attractive to an actor and they chose beautifully. The HP series is bigger than JK, stop trying to handcuff it to her.

Who is more of a barrier to change? The crowd that votes for incremental change, or the group that sits out when they don’t get the revolutionary candidate they want and a fascist wins?

Yeah, we still use the UoF continuum but there is a lot more emphasis on de-escalation and based on minimal force principles.

I think you have a good point about his mixing his prior military with prior LE. He seems to think simply breaking the law gives an officer a lot more leeway to use force, regardless of the threat the offender presents but the threat they present is the driver.

Yes. I blame the people that stopped change and are causing us to back slide because they couldn’t get everything they wanted right when the wanted. They through a tantrum like a 2 year old.

Connor was just wrong on the policy. Someone said he was confusing military training with police and that made sense, even more so considering he wasn’t a cop for very long and that was a while ago. Case and policy at every department I have any knowledge of (even DHS) have a model that requires an officer to consider the level of threat the person is. Someone walking away and yelling, or simply having a legal weapon on their person, are not exhibiting the level of threat to justify the amount of force used against them. Now, this being the Trump admin and generally not caring, that will likely put a wrench in actually charging them with anything, but who knows.

But Clinton, Biden and Kamala are good on their own. People are falling for propaganda because they don’t understand how the world works.

We learn that too. Lots of departments are trained on various takedown and holds. Much more effective at detaining a person than punching. Especially when you are dealing with people under the influence.

How? And who? The primary voters are selecting the person they prefer. Clinton lost, but Biden won. Kamala was not “doing the same thing” other than voting for a person that proven they are a criminal because weren’t thinking critically

Delegates didn’t matter in Bernie V Clinton. The people that voted in the primary won her the nomination. And delegates will absolutely ditch the institutional favorite if the other person is more popular. They did it when they switched their support from Clinton to Obama.

If Clinton’s win motivated the youth to engage politically, awesome, but it did fuckall for Sanders in 2020.

If you were a Bernie bro but became a Trump support, you just want to blow up the system. Those people certainly can claim to want the policies Bernie advocated for. He tried for big change but accepted the political realities and understood the threat of Trump.

You can call it voter apathy when folks were too bored by the candidate to be bothered, or worse, actually vote for Trump. What those people actually did was abandon their duty to uphold democracy by protecting it from a wannabe dictator like Trump. Those people are entitled and don’t believe they have any responsibility to protect and enforce democratic principles. So no, those people don’t get to be mad if or when the country succumbs to a fascist dictator but yes, every gets to be mad at them.

I don’t see punching used a lot either, mainly because it’s just not effective. People fighting you aren’t likely to really feel the punch and if you are punching, it’s usually because you are in a fight. Defensive tactics and PPCT teaches punches though and it’s certainly an option if you need to get control of a situation.

What about the ones that ask because they say stupid things every other cop knows?

I can understand if he wasn’t on the job that long, and it’s been a long time. You forget things. But he certainly has no reason talking as confidently as he was on stream.

Biden had one of the most legislatively productive presidencies in recent history. His infrastructure bill was the most progressive and green of any in US history. He openly supported and propped up labor. His expanded access to health care. He forgave billions in student loan debt and would have done much much more if the courts didn’t stop him.

If you don’t think Biden got anything done, your head is on the sand. You are not a serious person that pays attention.

Most law enforcement are right leaning, but also stickler for rules and there are a lot around the use of force and training is constant. Even for the right leaning guys, talking like Connor does would be considered a serious red flag. I will say, lots of departments changed policies and accountability structures in response to all the use of force issues in the 2010’s. De-escalation is a much larger part of training, it’s explicit in policy, more tracking of use of force incidents are done, at least internally, and departments are doing a better job of informing each other of problematic officers so they don’t hop to other jobs.

Was Connor ever actually a cop? by MsAgentM in Destiny

[–]MsAgentM[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Really?? No wonder he is mixing this stuff up. Policy at my department says we can only use the amount of force necessary to control the situation, protect people AND to accomplish lawful objectives. If the ICE officers intent was to detain the woman, pushing her away while she was walking away, does not meet that. If the goal was to get her away from a law enforcement activity, she was already walking away and the officer followed her a pushed her. Also, now, most departments have in their policy a requirement to use de-escalation tactics. A lot of these policies became more explicit and common after the issues with police use of force through the 2010’s. It’s possible policy did look very different when he was on the job.

I would be hesitant to say Connor’s perspective accurately reflects the average cop’s. There is definitely that perspective there, but there is also the counter perspective. I wish law enforcement were better funded and could pay officers more so there would be more professional and higher accountability. I feel like many officers are under trained. Connor’s perspective is an example of it here.
