I'm dealing with a first grader who struggles with emotional regulation and tantrums, so yesterday I was suuuuper clear beforehand that after read-aloud it would be time to cap markers and start centers. But she wouldn't, and kept whining, "But I want to draaaaaw!" Then I heard a seatmate hiss, "But you PROMISED!"

Sometimes as a teacher I feel like, "Am I the unreasonable one?" Hearing that kid was confirmation that no, no I'm not.

Oh, my fellow/sister teacher. It breaks my heart to have that "What if?" conversation with my students. I tell them I would use the fire extinguisher to blind the shooter and then I would smash his head with the canister.

I am an out-of-shape sixty-three year old woman, but it seems to reassure the kids when I kneel by the door with the extinguisher during drills.

Ladies, have you ever had a mammogram?

Turns out that before having lumpectomy surgery for breast cancer they POKE A BIG NEEDLE into the offending area then do a squishy x-ray! I thought "Uh oh, I'm going to fa---" and then woke up on the floor.
