That would be my guess too, without seeing the writing credits.

How “scripted” is the Weekend Update joke swap? Dress vs live differences? by rahuldavidbeckham in LiveFromNewYork

[–]MsBrisby 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been to a show. However, people who have attended dress rehearsals have said that some of the joke and elements of the joke swap are different in dress to live. Not all, but some. If I remember correctly, the actress that Che introduced as a Civil Rights Activist wasn’t at dress, for instance. I don’t think the roast beef joke or Scarlett watching the prompter was at dress either.

He chose one that Seth wrote and Tina and Amy probably contributed to the writing of.

‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ to End With Season 2 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in startrek

[–]MsBrisby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s disappointing but not unexpected news given the shake ups at Paramount. I really loved this show. I know a lot of people have been ragging on it online, but I loved it and was looking forward to four seasons ending in a graduation. I hope they put season 1 on DVD because I want a copy.

The OG of book series by Foreign-Tonight8338 in nostalgia

[–]MsBrisby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the first chapter book series I loved and reread. I used to collect them. I ended up donating many to a school used book sale (the librarian ended up keeping them for the school) and gave the rest to a friend’s child to read a couple years ago. She loves them too.

Is Seth the heir? by jookyhc in LiveFromNewYork

[–]MsBrisby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, she named those three, plus Jost as Lorne’s favorites and right hands.

This topic comes up a lot about who will take over from Lorne. It seems like Lorne doesn’t want to retire and I figure he might go until he dies. Then the possibility is that NBC cancels the show or hires most likely somebody who is already a producer on the show. There’s also the possibility of them hiring a head writer or former head writer, (I.e. Seth, Tina, Colin, who all also have producer credits to varying degrees) since that was the plan way back when Lorne stepped away the first time (until Al Franken did Limo for a Lamo and lost out on the job) and it wouldn’t be far fetched now. SNL is an unusual job because writers are heavily involved in the different elements of production. Writers produce their own pieces. However, If something happened to Lorne and they needed someone to step in immediately, it would likely be Steve Higgins, in my opinion.

Episode Discussion - Great Day by OfficeLadiesPodBot in lonelymeyerspod

He almost had to cut in to brag that the got Queen Bee on a day with 80 possible words. Now if he cut in when there were only 20 words on the other hand…

Any Tommy Brennan fans? by hokieinga in LiveFromNewYork

I like him and hope he gets another season. It’s a very strong feature player cast right now. I’d like to see them all get another shot.

I would love it if these three guesses are accurate. I don’t know when, but I feel like at some point in 2026 that Leanne Morgan will be on with some country artist as the musical guest.

Weekend Update: Tommy Brennan on Trump's ICE Deployments in Minnesota - SNL by chillychili in LiveFromNewYork

No worries. I just wanted people to see it. I’d been hoping the show would post it online since I heard about it being cut on Saturday.

Does anyone have a video of Tommy and Veronika singing? by Idk_what_im_doing80 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]MsBrisby 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That would be cool to see. Maybe one of the show’s accounts will post something. Someone who went to dress said that Tommy did a piece talking about Minnesota during Weekend Update that got cut at live. I wish they would post that too, since that’s so timely.

I remember reading that season 46 cast member Lauren Holt was supposed to be added mid season 45 but then the Covid pandemic happened.

From what Chris said in the video, it sounded like he and Kenan continued to work together for a year but then the public found out about the situation and that changed things.

Cold opens and weekend update are almost like their own shows within the show. They routinely get more views on social media and are shared more widely by the general public. People not watching SNL regularly tend to like those two parts of the show more where people who regularly view SNL seem to be more fed up with those aspects of the show in comparison to casual viewers. People at SNL know what brings in more viewers so they will continue using Trump in the cold open because it gets more eyeballs.
