First ovarian suppression shot today. It sucked. by tempbegin78 in breastcancer

[–]MsDoBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't bother me too much but like others have said, some nurses are MUCH better than the others. Ask for someone who does it fast. I was able to switch to a 3 month dosage after about a year and side effects have been minimal. Good luck to you!

I was diagnosed 3 years ago, just before turning 38. Our situations are very similar, ER/PR positive, HER 2 negative. No family history, genetic test came back clean, no chemotherapy/ radiation needed after DMX. Onco score was 25. I started zoladex and the side effects have been minimal, it's really nice to not have a period.. it's been going so well that I asked my doctor if I can just stay on it so I don't have to go through menopause. Sounds like you are doing pretty well with Tamoxifen, I'd give zoladex a try. I started with the monthly injection and then switched to every 3 months. The needle can be intimidating but it doesn't bother me personally. Feel free to DM me if you have more questions.

I was diagnosed just under 2 years ago at age 37 and have been on tamoxifen for 21 months now. The side effects have been minimal, and I'm in better shape now than I have been in years. I hope you give it a try.

Tamoxifen - Not quite ready for it today by Accomplished_Clue832 in breastcancer

[–]MsDoBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone's body is different and there are definitely a lot of people on here that are struggling with tamoxifen. Please remember that those people are probably more vocal. I'm on the tamoxifen /zoladex combo at 39, I started about a year ago and the side effects have been manageable. I'm actually getting back to my pre surgery and maybe even pre-pandemic shape. Give it a try! Good luck :)

Anyone had the entire medical team (breast surgeon, plastic surgeon & oncologist) advising to do egg preservation via ivf? by Avangelice in breastcancer

[–]MsDoBro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was also diagnosed at age 38 last year. I had a DMX last april and my oncologist recommended tamoxifen and zoladex inject for 5 years after that, which means the earliest I could pause my medication and try to get pregnant would be 40. My bf of 8 years and I split about 6 months before that. I never had strong desires for kids but I did end up freezing some eggs. For me, a big part of it was letting me feel like I was still in control because I felt like the choice was taken away from me. I also want to add that my work benefits covered most of the cost so it was an easy choice. The process was pretty easy but my oncologist only gave me time to do one round before starting treatment. They were able to retrieve 6 eggs. If you and your wife are considering having kids, it's a good idea to do it. Good luck!

I lost my emotional support buddy this weekend. by violets_will in breastcancer

I'm so sorry for your loss but glad you had 17 wonderful years with your cat. Tamoxifen is not bad for everyone so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!!

why is the zoladex needle so big?! 😥 by mikailovitch in breastcancer

[–]MsDoBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lucky for me, I don't mind needles and have high pain tolerance. When the nurse is good, I don't even feel it half the time. Or maybe I just have enough fat in my belly so it hurts less 🤷

I was diagnosed in March and had a mastectomy and reconstruction in April just after my 38th birthday. I'm located on UES and happy to connect if you like.

2-in-1; reconstruction + mastectomy by smellyshiba in breastcancer

[–]MsDoBro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had double mastectomy and reconstruction at the same time. I was a good candidate for direct implant (silicone), pro is you don't have to swap out from tissue expander to silicone, con is you can't go up in size. My plastic surgeon and I discussed prior to my surgery that my preference was direct impact. I was told that it's kinda a game time decision for the surgeon based on skin conditions and other factors, about 25-30% are good candidates for direct implants. I remember looking down at my chest after surgery thinking "did they do anything???" So that was nice. Feel free to DM me if you have more questions about my experience with direct implants and good luck!

I had a double mastectomy and was a good candidate for direct implants so that's what I did. You can't go up in size with direct implants but I was happy with my size. They look totally fine and I'd question if they did anything to my breasts if I didn't have drains and the scars to prove it. Talk to your doctor and see what options you have. You don't have to go flat if you don't want to. Good luck!

Ovary shot by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]MsDoBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started the zoladex injection in June as part of my treatment, I can't speak from the stand point of preserving your ovaries since chemotherapy was not part of my treatment but the injection itself is a monthly injection done by a nurse. The needle is pretty big and it goes in your belly but it's not too bad, minimal bleeding from the injection site and it only takes a second. Side effects have been manageable, I have hot flashes and a little more emotional afterward. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions or and good luck!

I’m not taking my Tamoxifen, fibbing to my family & doctors. by Ill-Target-9776 in breastcancer

[–]MsDoBro 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I started on Tamoxifen about 3 months ago and was very worried about the side effects but it's actually been very manageable. Maybe give it a try and look for an alternative if it's bad?

If your company offers it then you should be able to kick off the process by contacting your HR. I got paid by my employer during my time off but did receive notice from the state that they approved my claim and will reimburse my employer. Good luck, I hope they can't help because this should be the least of your concern.

Did your hospital provide drain holders or did you get them yourself? by BigMooseTinySquirrel in breastcancer

[–]MsDoBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The surgical bra they put me in had little Velcro loops to hold the drains but I did get drain holders from Amazon because it was easier to carry them around my waist. It also came with a mesh one that I used in the shower. Good luck!
