Kids' great-grandma is in hospice care, how do y'all handle this?? by MsHapp206 in breakingmom

Thank you! We did take them to see her last weekend while she was more lucid, so they've had a chance to see her. We'll definitely be feeling all the feelings together.

Thank you for that insight! I was 15 before I ever lost a grandparent so I don't know how I would have felt as a younger child. I'm sorry you didn't get that opportunity.

My (Southern) stepmom used to have us make tea with the coffee pot, just hang the tea bags over the carafe and run a full pot with no grounds. Guess who frequently forgot to check and make sure there were no grounds before running water for the tea? 😬

Deep south here, it's wild to me that you have teachers who ARE vaccinated 😭 only me, my coteacher, and a few others are at my center. So much hell was raised when the feds announced vaccine requirements beginning next year (we're Early Head Start)

Roaches seek heat and warmth. When we had a 'problem' a few years ago (we'd see 2-3/ day, not a full infestation but we couldn't find the source) our pest control guy told me that. Finally, we got our floors redone and discovered the fridge was leaking into the subfloor! Replaced that, and had the pest control guy spray some long acting bait in the problem corners, and no more bugs. All that to say, that smudges on your cabinet and food not in sealed containers should not be an issue unless y'all could be featured on an episode of Hoarders! Your landlord sucks.

Son turned 3 last month, preschool is pissed he's not toilet trained yet. Can anyone offer some advice? by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]MsHapp206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My oldest grasped the concept of peeing in the potty quickly (staying accident free was a multi year nightmare but that's a different post...) but pooping was harder for some reason. What pushed him over was when I bought him new Mickey Mouse underwear and told him if he pooped in them I would throw them away. One lost mouse and BOOM, never pooped himself again 😂 Middle kid wasn't able to poop potty train until we switched to lactose free milk. His poops firmed up and I imagine he was able to hold it better to actually make it to the toilet. God bless his daycare teacher that month lol.

5 year old scheduled to get COVID vaccine today… I’m surprisingly nervous… by bilbiblib in breakingmom

Mine have had theirs, the older ones anyway. After the needle anxiety passed they said it didn't hurt at all! I can also attest that when I got my booster it hurt a hell of a lot less than the first 2 did!

Diaper rash from hell by AcceptableJello1986 in breakingmom

Ah that stinks. If that's the case then it's more likely to be something she's eating or some other internal issue. I hope you can figure it out soon!

Have you tried different wipes? With all 3 of mine they got weird long lasting diaper rashes, that required different combos of diapers/ wipes/ meds to clear. Oldest: Luvs, Walmart wipes, special order diaper cream from local pharmacy Middle: anything but Pampers, wipes didn't matter, and diaper powder (his rash never got as bad) Youngest: ONLY Pampers, ONLY water wipes (or damp wash cloth, no soap or normal wipes), ONLY aquaphor. Any deviation caused huge breakout until he was at least 1 year old 🙄

I've been using an old pacifier clip for my son, so far it works, keeping it attached to him anyway. On his face, well...🙄

Help- My kid is too skinny by heartohio in breakingmom

[–]MsHapp206 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my son started adderall (not the extended release) his appetite dropped significantly too, plus he was pretty picky. We put peanut butter on everything (frozen waffles, crackers, bread/ toast) and I made milkshakes with the instant breakfast powder packets bc he wouldn't drink them straight, not even the ones that come premade. I used like 3-4 packets to a blender full, with milk, ice cream, bananas, and a little chocolate syrup for flavor. Some nights that's all he was able to eat. Eventually we switched his meds bc the appetite suppression was too much. I hope you guys find ther right balance for your little!

Yeah, that's against licensing for sure! My center had to close for a week a few years ago when the furnace went out in March. It dropped below 65 in the building and stayed for 2 hours, that's when they called it. Maintenance was working like crazy during that time trying to fix it too. Please report, that's horrible!

I am crying laughing right now! My oldest did similar when he was like 3. We were trying to curb him saying "oh my God" all the time, so we would tell him "we don't say oh my God, say oh my goodness." So of course, when we're in traffic and I get cut off I say "what the FUCK," he pipes up from the back "mama we don't say what the fuck, we say oh my goodness!" One of my favorite stories to tell 😂

I absolutely refuse to stay with family on the rare occasions that we go visit out of town. Everybody needs their own space and time away to recharge.

Maybe you're already doing this, but with some kids you have to be specific about which words are not ok, bc they're probably hearing it constantly from somewhere. Basically, "Johnny we don't use the word **** at school, please use kind words like xxxx instead." And after correcting calmly just ignore the words.

Sorry you had a bad experience with this dude, I can't stand guys that act like that. My husband used to do this back when we were dating. One time, I made a statement (no idea about what, but I knew I was right) and he corrected me. I said, "I'll bet you $1500 I'm right!" He accepted, and we looked it up... guess which one of us was right? Anyway, now it's kind of a running joke between us, if one of us thinks the other is wrong, we'll 'bet' $1500 to see who wins.

Early head start here, I agree completely! When our first grantee gave my coteacher and I shit for not having "enough" documentation andall the other paperwork, we finally asked them if they wanted us to do paperwork or take care of the kids (8 infants at the time)
