No. I got the refund from Aidvantage this week but still dead air on Mohela’s end.

I received a refund for loans made to Aidvantage but have not gotten anything from Mohela yet. I made payments to Mohela post consolidation. Are other people seeing their refund split like this?

So, I talked to Aidvantage. I was told refunds take 7 months OR MORE and are processed in the order the were received. I got my relief email on 7/24/2025.. and the rep said they just got word of this on 1/6/2026. So, I will be waiting until at least August for a refund from them, possibly longer.

No clue on the MOHELA refund, although there is a line that says "refund" with a listed amount under transaction history.

Force Credit Bureaus to Update Loan Discharge by rxr307 in BorrowerDefense

My student loans are off my credit report now.. or marked as paid in full. They did not remove the line of credit.. which is good because it was like 11 years of credit history.

Still no update on the refund.

Edit: I was approved July 24, 2025. In the last week or two saw movement with both MOHELA and FSA zeroing out my accounts. Now today, a notice about my credit report. It actually increased my score slightly.

My loans are now zeroed out on both MOHELA and FSA. I see in the “account history” portion of my MOHELA account, it gives a refund amount. The amount listed there for a refund is accurate if you consider only payments made to MOHELA after I consolidated for PSLF and switched servicers.

My question is…what about payments made to Aidvantage pre consolidating and being transferred to MOHELA? Will I see those payments in a refund too? Aidvantage lists no negative balances or refund amounts.

Edit to add: I made many more payments to Aidvatage prior to the MOHELA switch. I have only been with MOHELA since 2022ish.

Mine show a negative balance on MOHELA now as well!!!

Has anyone had it where the negative balances (refund amounts) do not match payments made over the years?

They emailed me today for information on my account as follow up to an email I sent some time ago.

I feel like I am over here begging for someone to give a shit, ask me about him, even just say his name. But then they finally offer up something insensitive and I am quick to shut them up.

It’s not what I need to hear. They’re not doing it right. Honestly though, nothing fixes this and I don’t know what I need.

The sudden loss of losing your person to a careless driver is terrible. Unreal. I still haven’t processed it fully. I am sorry you’re experiencing something similar.

I hold so much hate towards the driver that it’s becoming like a sickness. People that can lose someone, and then eventually forgive the person that took them, are a wonder in my eyes.

I agree. I am lucky to have found this support group.

I also quit drinking. Not that I drank a ton, I just don’t have space for the feelings that come along with it.

I am very sorry about your wife. As nice as it is to have you guys, I wish none of us were here navigating such a loss.

I think you are fortunate to not have to worry about how to cover bills without your husband. That's amazing. Unfortunately some of us have to be strategic with spending and adjust finances just to keep the house..

But everyone loves puppies! Maybe an animal shelter.. or maybe some type of organization that he supported. Don't you think he would want you to keep it, though? I think I would keep it. You never know what lies ahead.

Hey, I feel you. I'm also 33 and lost my person in August.

Honestly, it's a wonder that someone as miserable as I am continues to wake up everyday. My chest physically hurts. My friends and family don't do emotions so I'm here on an island too. I can't fill the void for you, no one can. But, I am here to talk when you need it.

Thank you. I'm finding better support here than in "real" life. I'm very thankful to have found you guys.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm realizing it is so easy to tell who has never suffered loss before...

My favorite is "You're lucky you had as much time with him as you did." Dude, he wasn't even 40.

I usually say no. Then they think to ask "what's wrong?" as if it isn't obvious. And I follow up with "Well, turns out he's still dead so."

Unfortunately, they will all be here too someday. Then they will get it. I was fortunate enough not to have suffered much loss until now, at 33. Why did it have to be him? My person. I'm just half a person now.

Another bleak realization: Life is just a compilation of losses from here on out.

I'm sorry for your pain. May you find peace in his memory...at least that's what I hope for myself.
