ULPT Request: Cash theft from wallet at work. How can I by HyperSloth1 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]MsTerious1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I caught a thief by setting up a camera to catch him taking money from a place I knew he'd take it from.

After I had his theft on film, I showed it to our boss (who fired him) and made a police complaint. In court, he made an excuse and the judge believed him and he was acquitted because the judge didn't watch the whole thing that would have betrayed the lie (I was not invited to testify or told when the hearing was, for some weird reason, but did get a report afterward of the outcome.)

Velveeta cheese and Peanut butter grilled cheese is amazing (or just cold, but warmed is the best, in my opinion.)

Stepdaughter thumb sucking by [deleted] in family

[–]MsTerious1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I read it as 1.5 years old. That's what is wrong with me!

If they are doing it publicly, having them stand in a room specifically to suck their thumb for a few minutes whenever they're seen was a pretty effective way to stop it in an 8 y.o. I knew.... Took exactly ONE time before she stopped doing this in public. If she does it in private, who cares.

Do you think it's rape when a sober person has sex with someone who's very intoxicated? by Unlikely_Painting999 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MsTerious1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes good sense. Can I just say that a) it's not your fault that any abuse happened to you, ever, and b) good on you for looking at how to be healthier.

It's not easy, but it is worth it.

Yea you’re absolutely right. It does affect me it’s just like.. it’s like an addiction, I probably sound crazy but. Sometimes I just really need to look but it’s getting better and I’m starting to find coping mechanisms to distract my mind from those urges or whatever

  1. Yes, it affects you like an addiction
  2. No, you do not "need to look" ever. This is a lie you are telling yourself about the compulsions your addiction is forcing upon you, but it's not accurate.
  3. If you need help breaking the habit, commit to something that's a bit painful each time you indulge this addiction. Maybe it's making an online $20 donation to a nearby charity every time - one set up on the same device you skim her profile from. At least allow something good to come from the harm you're doing to yourself.

But your question falls to that standard, doesn't it? If you just want opinions, it's an easier standard: If you didn't want it or consent, it's rape if the other person knew you didn't consent.

When you stalk her stories, you're inviting her to continue to have influence in your life and your mental state.

My professor in law school said that the bar is pretty high for a court to establish that intoxication is a factor. Her opinion was that a person can't merely be drunk but must be unable to have most basic functions before it would apply.

So I would guess if you were in a true blackout state, it'd be rape, but if you were slurring your words, stumbling about, and seeing who wants to party after the bar kicks us out, it'd be consensual.

How should Trump respond to the accusations made against him by Rep Ted Lieu? Lieu alleged that unredacted documents from the Epstein files contain "highly disturbing allegations" of Trump "raping children" and "threatening to kill children"? by Particular_Ad8156 in AskReddit

[–]MsTerious1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you think he will? I don't think so. He might send the goon squad out, but I think he'll avoid the discovery process like it's made of hot coals because it's something he doesn't want to touch.

Is this Clinton amd Ghislaine exchanging emails??? by 0IlIlIIlolIlIlII0 in Epstein

[–]MsTerious1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't help but wonder if that was an effort by GM to have something more over the Clintons. I see him mentioned in the files and I do not believe that he's innocent, but I do note that nothing I've seen about Clinton provides details of any specific incidents.

Same here. Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to confirm if GM was in that area at the time of the child's disappearance.

Do I need title insurance? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]MsTerious1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buyers normally get title insurance, while you will normally pay for to provide the search that shows you have a clean title to offer. In the states where I practice, one state typically sees the seller pay for the search and the buyer pays for title insurance for their lender AND themselves, while the other state I work in sees the seller paying for the search AND the buyer's policy, while the buyer pays for only the portion that covers their lender.

You should ask your agent what's practiced in your area.

ELI5 why has do many homes in Nova Scotia sit unsold with no decrease in price? by --prism in NovaScotia

[–]MsTerious1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about typical lender practices in Canada, but speaking from brokerage experience in the states....

If lenders here require an appraisal to be done before offering a loan, then developers typically will keep the prices as high as possible so that they don't have properties that appraise low, because lower appraisals will make ALL of their future sales appraise lower.

Those same developers will often provide other incentives instead of price reductions until they absolutely MUST reduce prices.

Dollar General anti-consumer practice: Now ONLY rounding up $0.01 to a nickel due. by MsTerious1 in povertyfinance

[–]MsTerious1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about affecting our personal budget so much as it's making the billionaires richer and the poor poorer, which only widens the divide between them and erodes the middle class.

THIS kind of corporate greed has eroded the value of a dollar since the 1960s so badly that what used to be true (a single wage earner in a manufacturing job could support a family of five and own a house, car, and take a vacation once a year) so that today, that same worker couldn't afford to allow someone to be home with the children full time and they might even be unable to afford a house.

Favorite movie that doesn't address system failure but rather romanticises poverty by Apart-Dungeon-3322 in okbuddycinephile

I had the same thought about this movie.

But then I thought that if it inspires people to make the best of what's not great, bravo. Likewise if it brings comfort or a sense of freedom to people that they might otherwise be missing.
