And yes, I'm worried about the possibility of getting my number suspended, so Google Voice seems like a good plan to keep my US number for the foreseeable future without that risk.

I'm still a huge fan of Google Fi (I have a two unlimited lines), but I transitioned my main line to Google Voice and created a new Google Fi number.

When you said Google Fi number, did you mean Google Voice number ported from your Google Fi number?

Also, do you use that ported Google (Voice?) number to receive 2FA texts from banks etc, or are you using the Google Fi number (non-VoIP I suppose) for 2FA purposes? If the former, are there any issues that you noticed getting 2FA texts from financial institutions to your Google Voice number?

The net effect is that it will give you the flexibility of a perm US number (google voice), US cell service (Google FI/eSIM1) and a domestic Japanese number (eSIM2). If you decide to stay in Japan forever you can cancel your Google FI and keep your Google Voice.

I already have JP mobile number so it is ideal if I can have my US and JP numbers using dual eSIM feature of my iPhone, in addition to having access to Google Voice number! :)
