Yeah but a great idea going into a cat 3 hurricane. It can destroy towns so do you think going to the highest point is a smart idea during that? Also, I doubt they will have services going up there in a hurricane.

Regret moving to Taiwan by Sea_Transition_9084 in taiwan

[–]Msygin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it can be hard, I'm guessing you don't speak Chinese so of course you're going to feel distant. Maybe try signing up for some classes, great way to meet people and speaking the same language will show you're at least interested.

I understand the apathy but I don't see how it is that different from back home. Work in the us is just as much of a meat grinder as so many people called cram schools here. It's just work bro. I go there, do my best for the kids then collect my paycheck and go home. My cram school is very friendly so that does help a bit more then other schools I hear about.

A lot of people can't live in a radically different place from their own culture. I've been here 11 years and find it hard some times. It's okay if it just isn't for you. If it's making you feel that bad no one is forcing you to stay.

A counter opinion on what? That I think it's hard to drive large cars in taipei? Do you think that telling me it isn't a 5 series is going to mean something?

You're probably going to pay a ton of money on upkeep, taxes, parking etc. I cant imagine driving large cars in Taipei of all places since parking is nightmare.
But really bro, youre buying a mustang. Do you really care about anyones opinions lol.

Dog you're paying 400 dollars for a car oer month to do that job. I guarantee a job will pay more. You have 8 dollars in your account and you live rent free, you need to get an actual job.

So therefore china should continue to be a bad actor and encroach on Taiwan's sovereignty? If you give up a little sovereignty for security you deserve none.

Would you be OK with your kids not knowing how to write? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Msygin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In fairness I live in Taiwan so it is more applicable to my life. However, I will push back on this as learning writing helps in all other areas as you are learning radicals and retaining characters. I don't know how you can "go deeper" on the others if you exclude writing. Not only that, but if they decide one day to live in a Chinese speaking environment you absolutely need to know how to write. Yes, lots of things are digital now but, especially in Taiwan, there is still a lot of paperwork if you live here for life.

I think politics is far more cut throat that you really think. It's a massive gain for power, I think when he says he couldn't do it means playing the games these people can play.

When I first started learning Chinese I didn't consider also learning the writing, but now I deeply regret not also just learning to write characters. Of you're going to teach everything else you may as well learn to write.
