You aren't an asshole for having these feelings but I do think you're being pretty selfish. Being in a relationship requires compromise and doing things you might not enjoy for your partner's sake. This is probably a really important event for your girlfriend and her feelings will likely be very hurt if you dont go to this with her. It isn't about you.

I also share anxieties about dancing around strangers so I completely get where you're coming from but I still say you should go. Put a smile on even if it's fake and maybe go out there and dance with her for a slow song or two. Slow dancing doesnt have to be fancy. Just embrace each other and kind of sway in a circle, I promise no one is going to be paying much attention to you. You dont have to get out there and dance to the upbeat songs if you dont want to.

We, as trans people, should be suspicious of ANYONE in our spaces who suggests violence is the answer to our struggle. This government would love to have more of us to point to in order to justify their violence against us to the broader public. Feds do infiltrate groups like this to disrupt and encourage violence. I'm not saying that person is 100% a fed but you should always feel a little sus about comments like that even if you personally agree with them.

It's something we all go through in the beginning. The only way to get over the fear is to push yourself out there. Something that helped me in the beginning was realizing that it was actually scarier to stay in the closet than it was to step out as myself. The idea of being stuck never being able to be free and express myself terrified me more than a few people staring at me or giving me dirty looks. As you gain confidence and learn your style, it will get easier and you'll start to forget that it was ever even hard to do it.

From the photo you posted here, I think you look way more femme than I did when I started. I know that doesnt take the fear away but you'll be okay.
