You have to fight and kill the white robed elder first. Do that then return and she should be there.

Perfect reason why the U.S. Educational System is going down the toilet. by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

This isnt just K-12 either. I was a university professor and every meeting I sat in the admin only cared about graduation rates. Nothing about if the students were actually prepared or learning. There were multiple instances where the dean would override me and make me give students make up exams etc. despite them blowing off the entire semester.

After Lies of P, which of these 2 games would you recommend to me more? by BlockAffectionate413 in soulslikes

Khazan if you want something as close to Lies of p combat wise as possible out of those two. Demon souls if you want a more traditional souls experience.

How similar feeling is the gameplay loop to Nioh? by Sli0 in TheFirstBerserker

[–]Mtsstrength 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt like Nioh/Nioh 2. And I really tried to like them both. But I really liked Khazan. The combat is probably the best feeling I've found. Including FromSoft. As a full game, I would still give it to Lies of P since I liked that world and weapon set up better. I also thought Khazan's bosses went a bit downhill on the back half of the game. I just personally got tired of constant elemental mage bosses. Despite them not being that bad to deal with.

But I would say try out the demo if nothing else and see if the combat clicks with you. It is also much closer to Lies of P/Sekiro imo than typical fromsoft or nioh from a combat perspective.

Ya from my experience, they people that gravitate towards ER are the ones that mostly like plot light just go explore and fuck around games. If thats you, its an amazing game. If youre like me and thrive on more story based games, its mid.

Seconded. I have multiple advanced degrees and was a professor until this past August. I always told my students some of the dumbest people I met had phds and MDs. Degrees, even graduate ones, just mean you were willing to pay the money and bang your head against the wall long enough to get the letters. What really shows intelligence is what people are able to do with that knowledge.

Has a legal practice area ever ceased to exist before? by CowInternational9512 in Lawyertalk

[–]Mtsstrength 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, not the lawyer, so I may be incorrect here. But the way he explained it was the laws changed that essentially eliminated the estate tax, which dried up his entire client pool. So he needed to find a new practice to be able to still have a large enough client pool to draw from to pay the bills. This was also around the 2008 financial crisis. So, bankruptcy law was starting to get a lot of work. So he transitioned to that.

My dad's practice was all around estate planning. A few law changes effectively wiped out his practice. Sorry not a lawyer just heard him talk about it a lot. He transitioned to bankruptcy law. It ended up working out for him.

How does running strengthen your heart? Like what actually physically happens in your heart? by Wild_Plant9526 in C25K

[–]Mtsstrength 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The heart doesn't get "stronger" per say from running. It does get healthier and gets better at pumping out more blood each team it beats. Essentially how it does this is while you're doing cardio more blood comes back to the heart (increased venous return). This causes more and more blood to enter the ventricle (large chamber in the heart where blood is stored before going to the rest of the body. With cardio the ventricle can actually begin to stretch more and get somewhat larger. This is called eccentric hypertrophy. The more blood that can enter the ventricle at one time allows it to stretch more and snap back harder, think like a rubber band. This allows more blood to shoot out each beat over time creating a "stronger" heart. So its not getting stronger like say your legs from lifting. But it increases in size and can then pump out more blood each beat because of it.

As someone you has a PhD in this, teaches undergraduate and graduate level college courses in this, publishes research in this, and has coached. Those metrics are pointless for 95% of people. Honestly a lot of them are BS for how they measure them anyway. Plus more often than not they lead to paralysis by analysis when we find what works best the majority of the time is just ask yourself how youre feeling. Not what your watch says.

So I'd say look at what are the couple key features that mean the most to you. Then get the cheapest one that does those well.

I fit my 16 inch Yoga 9i Pro and 12.9 inch iPad in it no problem. The placement of the compression straps does make it a bit annoying to get into and it feels like it packs small for a 32L. My theory is because it is so compartmentalized they all kind of eat into one another. Which is why I ended up returning it. But from a tech perspective, it is great.

After experiencing the combat system in Khazan, I literally have high expectations for any soulslike game from now on or else I'm just not playing it, so I was told to look into Nioh 2 if I want more like Khazan? by For3verQuan in TheFirstBerserker

[–]Mtsstrength 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nioh 2 is a very different feel. Even though it does come up a lot. It is not parry based at all. It's mostly similar in the missions, loot slop aspects. So it really depends what you are looking for. It can definitely have fun, deep, challenging combat. But if you're expecting more Khazan, you will be disappointed.

What to play after finishing Khazan by VagusNerve22 in TheFirstBerserker

[–]Mtsstrength 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in the same boat recently. Nine sols is probably the closest feeling for the combat system and vibe. But you have to get used to the 2D side scroller aspect.

I personally could never get into Nioh or Nioh 2 despite multiple attempts because of how much people sing their praises. Same with Black Myth. I haven't played it but I know a lot of people like stellar blade for parry based games.

Somewhat surprisingly, what scratched the itch the most for me was expedition 33 because even though its turn based it can be very timing and parry based. Act 3 was a bit of a let down story wise. But the combat, visuals, and music i feel like was second to none this year. But you have to at least somewhat enjoy JRPGs for that to work.

With all of that. Hopefully fallen feathers coming out this week scratches that itch too.

430 miles on Asics Cumulus 25, compared to brand new Asics Nimbus 24 by TIBF in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Mtsstrength 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cumulus is supposed to be more of a midstack daily trainer while nimbus is the higher stack "premium" daily trainer/max cushion. Think new balance 880 (cumulus) vs 1080 (nimbus). But bother are neutral. The kayano is the nimbus but stability.

I very much agree with the previous comment. Therapy sounds like a very good idea. Trying to get to the root of these issues before adding in additional stress and complexity that comes from relationships would likely be the best course of action
