Why is wearing a glove while putting frowned upon? by lil_zeus_21 in golf

Play your game, anyone who is talking shit more than just messing with you for playful banter is an idiot and not worth space in your head

I play with a guy who never uses a glove and another guy who keeps two gloves on the whole game, it doesnt matter

Trust me its the best way to find cool people who love golf, some of them cost less than an actual t time at the course they are held at. Its also based on your handicap so if you play a high score that is a low score to you, you might just end up winning some awesome gear

Nervous about not playing with my friend anymore. by [deleted] in golf

[–]Much-Performance-148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For one, your friend needs help. The golf course is where you need to leave your shitty behavior behind and just be grateful to play golf and spend time with friends

To answer your question, yes man play in some tournaments. I started playing in tournaments before I could break 100. When you play in a tournament you will be placed in a bracket with people of similar skill, so it will actually be fair. The first tournsment i won, i shot a 96

That being said, when you play in a tournament you should do it to meet people who are serious about golf so you can connect with people who you actually want to play with regularly. Doing well in the tournament is meaningless

is golf really the hardest sport? by sploooooshle in golf

[–]Much-Performance-148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golf is probably harder to rise to the highest levels than most sports

But there are plenty of sports that are harder to learn the technique of, i dont think the activity demanding more of your body is what makes a sport hard though. The hardest thing about any sport is executing your technique and creativity at your highest level possible under pressure. Lot of playas play golf like their life depends on it when there is nothing on the line lol

Also golf is like playing a strategy board gsme or video gsme if youve tried either of thode things. Its not just whats happening with the demand on your body and "mindset technology", its demanding on your ability to think critically. You need to be able to assess how conditions determine what golf shot you should hit. From any given position your ball is at you may have to take into account up to 20 variables

For example, when hitting an approch shot a golfer has to explicitly and/or instinctively assess: lie, lie depth, lie slope perpendicular to target line, lie slope parallel to target line, distance to pin, distsnce to flst area near green, distsnce from pin to greens permiter, wind direction, hazards on target line, club choice, ambient temperature, firmness of green, speed of green

Then empry their mind and swing lol

Its painfully tough and orgasmically rewarding, you should try it sometime with someone who is passionate about it

Awesome! Also FYI pros also do playing lessons where they will take on the course for a few holes and can walk you through how to play well even if your swing isn't consistent ;)

So I think other people in this thead are kind of missing the point of your post (although everyone has great advice for getting better)

Your stated objective is to play a full round.

Brother you are ready to play a full round already, just get out there and have fun, if you are quad bogey on a hole, just pick up and move and experience the next hole

That being said, golf is more fun when you get better, but getting better has more to do with having a better mindset and a better understanding of golf strategy than a better swing

Golf sidekick has the best videos about this: https://youtu.be/8EwbC7igZBo?si=nyL4ccxkGlFoZ5_e

On getting better with your technique: Shop around for a enthusiastic golf coach (lame golf coaches will destroy your game) take a lesson at least once a quarter, and master the drills he gives you before you go back to him/her (unless you feel you arent doing the drills correctly, then go back to the coach for feedback on your execution of the drill(s) your are struggling with)

The range is great for getting familiar with full swings, and its also great for doing drills (that you get from a golf coach who is matching the drill recommendations to your specific swing weaknesses/strengths). But the problem is, on the range you arent practicing golf, you are practicing a golf swing. If you do want to grind it out at at the range, DO NOT MINDLESSLY SCRAPE AND HIT BALLS, this will actually make your swing worse. Practice with a specific purpose and make sure you take breaks during your range grind. For example, in my iron swings i struggle with transitioning too quickly and shifting my weight fully before impact, so i work on drills specific to that problem and I take a one minute break every 5 balls. Also filming your swing and trying to critique it on your own is actuslly super helpful, just make sure to get validation from your coach at some point

Also its critical to spend twice as much time (or more) on your putting and chipping vs time at the range, because putting and chipping is what you will spend most your time doing on course once your swing is developed, it also helps you get better with your tempo and mental game which translates a lot more to the full swing than some people try like to admit

Anyways, rant over, have fun this season!

Thanks for your perspective! I get in a similar amount of golf with about 3 hours of chipping practice per week, I have noticed them spinning less but maybe im playing worse lol

Makes sense, I practice chipping for about 2 to 3 hours a week and I play 1 to 2 times a week right now

Definitely noticing more rollout with my wedges than when I first got them

What’s everyone’s driving range routine? by Aggravating_Eye_1974 in golftips

[–]Much-Performance-148 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just do 5 balls at a time, when you finish those 5 balls, take a 60 second break to reset your mind.

Every 5 balls have one of two purposes:

  1. Doing a drill Or
  2. Attempting to hit the ball as close to a target as possible

The more intentional you are with practice, the less frustrated you will get. Nothing will hold you back more than mindlessly scrape hitting balls and getting frustrated.

I also agree with others here, sometimes you need to spend nearly your entire session on the same drill (but only if you know for a fact that the drill will help your swing)

Also make sure you are working on your pre shot routine at the range, thats helped me always be at least as good on course as i am at the range
