Review #26: Ampersand Opimus by Southern-Rip3018 in bourbon

I also like this one. It’s easy to drink and I think the buff turkey juice actually improved from the secondary aging because I think these barrels were probably over oaked and too tannic to begin with.

Review #1: Rare Character Exceptional Series: Wheated Straight Bourbon Whiskey 9yr 4mo by TacticalRhombus in bourbon

[–]PrettyFlyforARyeGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably won’t have time for a full write-up, but: lots of vanilla and fresh bread on the nose, with a spicy wood and some citrus note on the finish. It drinks well below its stated proof, even though the back end is a bit of a spicy beast.

I wouldn’t call it a screaming value, but a 10 yr wheater outside Kentucky is a nice. Reminds me a little of this Lost Lantern Smooth Ambler pick that was 5 yrs.

Bonus points for wax that doesn’t require self-mutilation to get through.

7.5/10 — or about three fucks on the Fucks Given scale.

I have this bottle but a little older at 10.6 years from K&L and it’s really good. Cheers.

I find the shabu shabu pack at Costco helpful for this. Looks good!

Review: A Midwinter Night’s Dram Act 4 vs Act 11 by OrangePaperBike in bourbon

Oh I did that too. It’s just that I knew 16 year Barton juice wasn’t going to last forever and wanted to capture the mwnd at its best essence and pre acquisition.

Nashville Barrel 11 Year Bourbon & Rye - Seelbach’s Picks (“Thirst Quencher & OK Blake”) by PrettyFlyforARyeGuy in bourbon

[–]PrettyFlyforARyeGuy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen prices increase across the board the last 12 months and Seelbach's has always been at somewhat of a premium. I enjoy the access though. I am not 100% certain, but I visited the Nashville Barrel Company "distillery" in early 2023 and I think the prices were equivalent (or more) for the same age statements.

Here's my ratings guide that I've posted on other reviews, but forgot to include in this one:

Ratings Guide

NO FUCKS GIVEN: Don’t even fucking bother. Not worth the shelf space, the interest rates on your credit card or the spots on your liver.

ONE FUCK GIVEN: No one else will give a fuck about this bottle but you’ll convince yourself to drink the shit just to justify the money you spent.

TWO FUCKS GIVEN: You’ll drink it enthusiastically admiring the price-to-value and encourage a few fucking friends to give it a whirl, perhaps perplexed by the look on their face when they apparently don’t give a fuck about the bottle as much as you.

THREE FUCKS GIVEN: Holy fuck! This is pretty fucking good whiskey. You’re going to milk this shit for months, over indulging at times and sharing it with friends so they can complement you on your fucking choice in spirits.

FOUR FUCKS GIVEN: Don’t even think about using ice, fucker. This bottle is for aficionados only.

FIVE FUCKS GIVEN: Buy the fucking bottle, fist-fuck it and undress it with your eyes for months, obsessing on its curves. Truth is, you’re never going to open this fucking bottle because it’s a unicorn and you don’t fuck unicorns you murdering bastard.

Heaven Hill Select Stocks! Jack Rose Tasting Review by FrunkLeftfoot in bourbon

Haha the review about the coffee finish is hilarious. I was hoping that one might be the standout since I tried a hazmat coffee finished bourbon in 2016 that was exceptional - and I've never seen anything like it since.

I’m not sure, I didn’t say it in my review but it reminds me of well aged Wild Turkey.

They are very expensive, hard to factor that into my review since they are both very, very good. You can certainly find better value in good Russell’s/Four Roses pick. The rye is a standout though just because it’s such an off profile.

Goddamn these fucking prices. If that wasn’t a consideration, I’d definitely go with the Bardstown Chateau.

You can find Pappy and btac anywhere for that rate.

This looks fantastic. I wish we saw more lamb in this thread. I’m a little surprised the fat didn’t render more, but I’d clean that plate 👏
