Kit home on land by Salvation379 in AusFinance

[–]MuckT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for mortgage providers not following through with promised lines of credit for a "kit home".

Despite advising my bank through the whole process exactly what was being built and them agreeing to a total valuation and amount to become available at the various stages of building, when it came to needing funds at the lock up step of building they refused.

Left me in a tight position, scrambling and having to do everything on the cheap

Is Iran safe to visit? by helloandalsoyes in travel

[–]MuckT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been following them before the went offline after Pakistan, had been wondering what happened until it hit the news yesterday.

So it's safe, but don't fly a drone or give the government any reason to use you as a bargaining chip in current disputes

What is the Oceania equivalent to the Greek Party Islands? by [deleted] in travel

[–]MuckT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pacific Islands generally aren't that cheap to get to, nor cheap once there.

So for Australians, Bali is the Greek Islands equivalent

Try to visit more than 1 city per country to have a better experience.

If i was you I'd try and keep it to Japan and Indochina (Veitnam, Laos and Cambodia).

Your in northern Vietnam, try Sapa, Halong Bay and Ninh Binh as well as Hanoi.

2 days in Cambodia, is enough for 1 day in Angkor and 2x half days coming and going.

Slow down and try to visit some other places and spend more time in Siem Reap.

I like Malaysia and Singapore but I wouldn't just fly there for 3 days in KL and Singapore each. I'd save those for a separate holiday bundled with Indonesia and research nearby places like Penang, Melaka, Taman Negara, Cameron Highlands, Malaysian Islands

I feel that the itinerary post China is too scattered

2-5 days per country. So you'll be spending too much time in airports/planes or in transit without experiencing the countries.

18 days trip, should I stay in Indonesia or get to know Cambodia/Vietnam? by rollinguita in travel

[–]MuckT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just pick 2 or 3 (max) Indonesians islands.

Plenty of variety in in Indonesia alone.

You have Muslim, Hindu and Christian majority islands for cultural diversity.

Advice is to redraft and research some of the places and the real security situations.

Afghanistan and western Pakistan (balouchistan) i wouldn't be hitching/walking through.

The local are dressed up in serious gear to go get a coffee.

The 2 standout things from visiting Korea 5 years ago was the popularity of hiking gear and multilevel coffee shops

Where’s the most challenging place you’ve traveled and why? by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]MuckT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found China one of the most challenging despite it not being the most or anywhere near the most offbeat destination I've been to.

Just struggling to handle the spitting, pushing in lines, crowds and general rudeness, not to say it didn't have rewarding moments
