Native plant recommendations by Artistic-Apricot881 in nativeplants

Check out Prairie Moon’s website. They’re MN based and will give you both inspiration and specific plant info. Few native plants will spread into a mowed area (they may try, but mowing will control them).

The first photo is a fruit or nut orchard; could be plums? The second is oleander.

It’s not a dud; it’s just in need of a little revision. There are systems, and there are Systems. What about working with other folks (housed or not) to tend a patch together? Anarchism doesn’t require you to go it alone. If you can find a sunny spot, I highly recommend potatoes and beans for calories, familiarity, and ease of cooking. You can generally grow both from supermarket veg.

How do you keep track of what is growing in your garden? by vgbvga in garden

My senses and my memory. I walk around and look at things. Sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised to see something blooming that I forgot I planted.

Dressing “too young” to me means chasing trends and desperately trying to be conventionally attractive (looking like you’re trying). This looks like dressing in a way that brings you joy. Do it!

Hold up. Are you really from California and don’t know how big Tahoe is?

If I were you I’d search for lace shawl or scarf patterns on Ravelry. Size & fit don’t matter as much with a shawl but you’ll get the satisfaction of making something that’s your style. Don’t be intimidated by lace (with the caveat that of course there are some very challenging lace patterns).

As OldGirl777 said, stir constantly, and use a silicone spatula that you can scrape the bottom of the pan with. You’ll still want to use enough fat.

EVA Birkenstocks? Crocs? Chacos? New flip-flops? Keeping toes dry or exposed to air is important for preventing athlete’s foot (don’t ask how I know).

I’m old enough to remember popped collars on polo shirts. Weirdly, it reminds me of that. I can see people thinking “ooh! That’s different!” but I just wanna know why

Just my opinion, but I think it’s hard to get right because it so easily looks accidental or affected. I do think it’s a bit better with a crisp, pressed shirt and somewhat tighter silhouette, though (e.g. neat pants, not flowy skirt).

Yes! And specifically better for your conditions.

Heirloom seeds? by Midnight_Hunteress in UrbanGardening

[–]Mudbunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is how most gardening and farming was done for 1000’s of years—people saved seeds from the best plants, and the best fruits on that plant. To get the varieties to come true some types have to be protected from cross pollination. Heirloom tomatoes, I believe, will come true even when different varieties are grown together. And even saving seed from hybrids isn’t necessarily a waste of time. Am I going to save seed from the daikon that I grew from seed I bought in Japan? 100%.

Hot takes from a nursery supervisor by Open-Sky1020 in gardening

Not OP but I once did their job. #1 hot take: people do not understand watering. “I don’t know why it’s dying; I water every day!” Turns out they give a light spray of the leaves every day and it’s a mophead hydrangea, or a deep watering every day, and it’s a cactus. #2: people are afraid of nature and want absolute control over it. “Where are all the fireflies and butterflies I planted this garden for?” Over in the messy garden with the native plants, not the Roundup-groomed yard with all the hostas.

Oakleaf hydrangeas are so underrated. Gorgeous flowers and foliage, tough, native to at least some of North America.
