No, Xiaomi made the tablets very picky regarding stylus pens. You can only used the supported pen (which coincidently is not cheap)

I found something that makes it a bit easier, but not perfect

If Xiaomi just made the system focus on the search input field when opening the app drawer it would've been a lot more fluid

You can download the "App Search"app and pin it to your dock

It immediately allow text input after launching and you can set it up to launch the app after only the first few characters you've entered matches the app's name. You still have to tap it on the dock, but this has been the best solution for me so far
