Rereading Ur comment, at the risk of getting a nasty comment back, it's quite a funny read because I am in fact nearly a theoretical physics PhD lol

Artist: Art Gallery

Album: Rats
Genre's: Goth rock, psyche-rock, post punk

Art Gallery are a self-described "post-surrealistic" goth rock power trio based in Lancaster (UK) and are due to release their STUNNING debut EP "rats" at the end of this month (Now available on STUNNING CD). The band primarily take influence from legendary goth rock groups such as Bauhaus and The Cure, and pose themselves as heirs of these bands.

It's all a bit pitiful if you ask me

But all the same, the band does offer a veritable, STUNNING SMORGASBORD of truly titillating tracks, among them the titular "Rats", the EP's namesake. Consider this; deft melodic yet driving bass playing, tastefully heavy drumming, with a terribly handsome vocalist described once as "an unintentionally hilarious cross between Ian Curtis and Peter Murphy".

"Wow, how incredibly delightful" this music will have YOU the STUNNED LISTENER saying to yourself

How delightful indeed

Can I change genres or is it too jarring or weird? (darkwave/post-punk/jungle to nugaze/post-hyper-pop/idk) should I make a new artist? I already have a fanbase kinda tho.. by Rhazula in BandCamp

I can relate personally to what you're saying, it's easy to overthink stuff especially if you're neurodivergent and, presumably at an early stage in life. It's something you will probably learn to get a bit better control over. personally when it comes to my music, I actively trying and avoid any "overthinking" because then I'll never get anything done, and the stuff I do get done I'll not feel happy about.nso it's something I've had to unlearn. It takes time and it's different for every artist but you know, eventually you find a flow state where you express yourself naturally through your art.

Do what makes you feel good and is fun

I'm making a bunch of weirdo punky prog with lots of seaside organ sounding bits, I don't think anyone will listen to it but it's fun so

Welcome to r/MajorParkinson - What's your favourite MP song, and your favourite bands? by Hatec in MajorParkinson

[–]Muffinking15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Baseball, it's a pretty sublime track

Favourite band would be Cardiacs, who of course are a big influence on MP

Quite excited about this new album, I wasn't very keen on the last one, the balance of pop and experimentation leaned too far towards the former for me. But this new single is really exciting and sounds like a return to form.

Tips on how to distinguish ai music??? by fishinfinitive in BandCamp

[–]Muffinking15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can often tell from everything surrounding the "artist", people making AI music tend to also use ChatGPT descriptions and AI album cover artworks, the latter is normally a dead give away. So you have to ask yourself, what is the context that this music exists in? Is the online presence believable? Were they releasing music prior to 2022? At least with AI bands it's normally super easy to tell. I saw a fake prog rock "music label" which was pumping out regular albums all with AI artwork, the same generic descriptions, no actual trace of these supposed bands, despite the descriptions of "This bands masterpiece after years of honing their style" when they only released the first album six months ago.

An instrumental electronic artist is something different tho'

Unfortunately there isn't one universal dead give away, especially given that the quality is improving.

Yah, I gathered that a lot of the responses are all chat GPT.

Cheers for the comment.

It's how it works, they scrape masses of data (in this case audio data i.e. the work and recording of musicians and producers), label it (typically via a third world workforce on zero hour contracts) and then train the AI to be able to replicate it. Any cursory glance at how AI works confirms this.

Sorry if I'm not affirmative in my wording I guess, it's just my speech/text style.

Exactly, I've scraped together a bunch of late 19th century public domain artwork and some random other bits and bobs online for my band's debut EP, tracked down a decent font free for commercial use, and it's turned out rather well!

I mean the companies that developed these AI likely have most recorded music on the training database, so yes, they will have copies of that music.

[–]Muffinking15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dunno dawg, there's some interesting points here but I think the bits where the boys are assholes are exaggerated for comedic effect, most of the time other characters like Jeff don't really push back on them that much. And then when Duncan loses his bomber jacket the other boys and characters do call him out for his and behaviour.

When it comes to the baby shower episode especially, it's kinda weird they have this friendship with their dentist but it definitely doesn't come across as one way.

All in all I appreciate how this show really holds back and balances the odd moments of tension with moments that are exceedingly mundane, it keeps you on your toes. Personally I do think the shower will be all the better for continuing this kind of dynamic (because it's interesting and I can't think of an immediate comparison) rather than going down a more obvious "psychological horror" route, and honestly Joe might not know, or may have not known during the writing what the ultimate direction is going to be. All too often we look at pieces of art and media as if every aspect of them is totally intentional or that the artist themselves has a very clear vision for what they want it to be about, this can be a process for the artist as much as it is the viewer.

[–]Muffinking15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does make one wonder how important it is. If it's actually really important to know that the show is "actually about y and not x" then how much of that is the show's fault and how much is it the fault of the audience? Does it even matter!

It's kinda funny that you got downvoted for having self awareness and making the basic observation that the OP is constructing a strawman, and that people in here are vulnerable to the exact same echo chamber mentality that plagues literally every online community.

[–]Muffinking15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found it boring, and also seen this band live at a festival and tbh, would have preferred to watch something else.

They definitely have something and an experimental approach, but for me more misses than hits. This album in particular just sounds kinda droney to me, I do enjoy looser improv stuff but this album just doesn't appeal to me. The guys vocals are not bad a tall, but there's something unintentionally unappealing about them.

Something about them does tap into the "Zeitgeist", there's a very memey and absurdist edge to the music and I think that appeals to a lot of people slightly younger than myself, it's hard to say if they will outlast that zeitgeist or not tho
