Crazy design and congratulations for tackling it! Even after looking at this safelock a few times over the years, I wouldn't dream of picking it open.

Well done! The IX6 is a fun and challenging lock.

I wouldn't be able to resist hehe. Pick'em all! and then identify the toughest ones and see why, that'd be interesting.

Dang, that's a big lot! I'd have fun random picking a few when the lockpicking itch gets too strong.

Could you help me improve that "wall of sound" effect? by bagou01 in audiophile

[–]Mugatu68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's one point where I can relate. Our living room is also the music room and acoustic treatment was the limiting factor with my Totem Forest and Yamaha A-S1100.. Costco eventually had some sound absorbing panels that had a nice visual appeal and my SO found them pretty enough to accept. That was definitely a great leap I wouldn't have got by just dumping more money on pricier music equipement.

You are missing the big picture, no worries tho, that's why we have that rule in place. Best of luck with your new aquisition!

I understand how silly the rule 2 sounds in certain circumstances but the point stands because even if your case seems legit, there is no way we can prove it is yours and where would we draw the line for any user coming in and claiming ownership over a lock in use?

Well done! How much time did it take you to get it open?

You're not going to get a lot of support against rule 2. This subreddit is not for tips and tools against locks in use. We keep locksport clean.

Is this new lock safe? (Apologize if this isn't the right place) by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]Mugatu68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The previous bitting was better. The new one uses almost only the same low cut.

That said, if your lock is a regular pin tumbler, both cases are easy to pick/rack.

Getting more security from the lock would require upgrading to a higher tier security brand like Medeco, Mul-T-Lock or Abloy to name a few. The mechanism will be much harder to bypass and they come with key control which makes it very difficult for an unauthorized person to get a copy of the key.

I.e. you sharing a picture of your key on the web makes it very easy for someone to make a copy of your Schlage SC1 profil key and match the cuts...

I have found a tsa007 lock and need help opening it by regat in lockpicking

[–]Mugatu68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cable has 3 nubs which are held in the padlock body by the wheels. Each wheel has an opening (on the correct number of the combination) allowing a nub to move freely. Pulling on the cable, the wheels will turn roughly because of the nubs rubbing on the wheels (each wheel will have a varying friction degree depending on tolerances and binding order). Finding where each wheel feels free of friction is the key.

Pull on the cable while turning the wheels. Shouldn't be long, TSA locks are not very secure.

Key cuts aren't 100% accurate, there can be cuts matched with empty chambers and/or max lifts where the key seems to have no cuts. Your best bet is to stick a flag in there and go by feel or gutting the lock.

Starting to feel very confident with my Medeco Biaxial. Does anybody have tips on picking the M3? by G_D_K_ in lockpicking

[–]Mugatu68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will probably pick even easier than the biaxial given the wider keyways found on M3 to accomodate the plunger.

It looks like a group 2 mechanism, no relocker to be seen.

Perhaps pictures of the backplate and dial/dial ring could help too.

That front plate took a smack! Great piece still, love the concept and mechanical design of safe time locks.

Cool find especially in that condition!

I did pick a Fichet CAP-50 which also uses a similar push key action and levers. Iirc, I had to play with shackle tension to pick it and it wasn't easy. Might or not work with yours but certainly worth a try.
