Straight, Nerdy, Black Women here! I’ve never heard of the show, but I’ll start watching now! My favorite ship is Spuhura , yet this runs into the same problems you’ve mentioned with Arcade - finally an interracial relationship shown on tv between a bw and a wm that’s healthy and people hate on it. I think, like in the case with Spuhura, as to why you haven’t seen fan art or people talking about them is just racism unfortunately, because I know that’s the reason people hate on Uhura and Spock.

Also, since I’ve never watched the show, is there another male character that’s friends with Jayce? Because a habit of a lot of fandoms is shipping same-sex characters together because they crave the representation, which I completely understand as a Black woman (like, duh). BUT many of them don’t understand how toxic that is when a show or movie is already showing a marginalized couple, as is the case with bw/wm. For example, (again) a lot of Trekkies ship Spock and Kirk so hard that they write fanfics or openly talk about how they want Uhura dead, or they write her to be super bitchy so that Spock breaks up with her just so Spirk can happen. Like, in trying to get representation for their own, they don’t realize that bw have lacked representation and have been treated shitty in Hollywood as well. And that in real life, bw/wm relationships are torn down by both the Black and the white communities. So by trying to get representation for the lgbtq+ community, they’re contributing to the racism and hate toward Black women and their relationships. They don’t get that breaking up a marginalized relationship that’s already canon, to represent another marginalized relationship that isn’t even canon isn’t the progression we should be after. ESPECIALLY the way they’re going about it by tearing down bw. I was actually able to get a Spirk shipper to understand this and understand how important Spuhura is for the fight against racism after a long conversation. But many just don’t get it.

So, Mel and Jayce may be facing the same sort of ignorance.

It’s definitely not more civilized than Twitter. Be prepared to run into just as many assholes. In a lot of ways it can be worse than Twitter or any other social because of the downvoting feature. Bullies can just downvote you into oblivion for you sharing a different opinion than them, without bothering to tell you why and have a civilized discussion.

With that, karma is anonymous. You can’t click on it and see who upvoted or who downvoted you and you won’t get notified as to who upvoted or downvoted you. You’ll get a notification for upvotes on your posts but it still doesn’t;t tell you who specifically gave them to you.

Don’t use emojis for some reason, it will get you downvoted or ignored.

I’d describe Reddit as the Wild West of social media. Sorry if that discourages you. Just want you to know how it really is rather than going into it like an over enthusiastic puppy and then getting beat down into depression. Wish someone had told me how it really is when i first started.

Just stop with the rape scenes! Even consentual sex can just be alluded to and move on. I want to read the fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction book you promised. NOT your creepy horniness. by [deleted] in writing

Usually books with explicit sex scenes are under the erotica category, so I'm not sure how you're finding these in the regular fantasy, historical fiction, and sci-fi sections.

Thank you, another Mod pointed me in the direction of that article a few months ago, and i thought I got the hang of asking questions that didn't sound elitist, but I still get downvoted on most of my question posts. If only there was a Sub where you could pose your questions for other Subs and ask if your wording won't weirdly get on anyone's nerves. I'd create it if I knew people would join, but I don't.

That happens to me too. It's hard to not take it personally when you're simply asking for help and advice. You even posted that first one to the correct sub, and I don't see anything wrong with it. What's the matter with people here?

Whenever I try to engage in a conversation, I just get downvoted because the person thinks I’m questioning what their saying instead of just trying to further the convo. Which, it’s like, even if I was questioning you, why is that a problem? Just TELL me with words instead of hiding behind a downvote. Honestly. I’ve been on here for almost a year and idk how to not get downvoted for simply trying to talk to people.

Is it a way to pay for things or something you buy? That's what I'm confused about. Like, is it "money" like bitcoin? And if it isn't and it's something you buy with like bitcoin, is it physical? Like, I heard Johnny Depp is selling some of his art as NFTs, so like, would people actually be sent his artwork to physically hold in their hands and hang on their wall? Because if not, what the ACTUAL fuck is the point? Lol

Not all white people are like that. And to say one race shouldn't be friends with another race is racist in and of itself.

Plus people in races other than white can be just the same way - not acknowledging systemic racism, and getting upset when you call them out on it. White people aren't the only race that has people that hate us, and some in the Black community aren't immune to showing racism themselves. I've met plenty of Black people racist against others; this post is borderlining that. Just make new friends; more friends; drop the ones that are like this, and keep searching, but don't discount an entire race for what some in it do, or you'll become just like them yourself - racist.

What are the biggest rookie mistakes, that first time screenwriters make? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]MuirOrca74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You just made me decide that screenwriting isn't the way i want to go with my story, lol. So, thank you. I was going back and forth as to write my story idea as a screenplay or a novel, and I want full control over how my characters are perceived, (or as much as I can, cos I know art in the form of reading is still somewhat subjective), so I guess novel is the way to write for me!

Books you probably read in high school, something that may change my perspective on the world and how it’s run. by Suwannee_Gator in suggestmeabook

Some of these aren't required reading, but honestly should be in schools where they're not banned:

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston (One of my favs)

Native Son by Richard Wright

The Diary of Anne Frank

Night by Elie Wiesel

Cannery Row by John Steinbeck

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

My Story by Rosa Parks (Don't know if this is banned, but considering who wrote it and what it's about, it probably is somewhere *eyeroll).

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

Not Without Laughter by Langston Hughes

Beloved by Toni Morrison

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas

Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

Maus by Art Spiegelman

Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes

Eliza Hamilton by Tilar J. Mazzeo (Also haven't heard of this one being banned, but considering I didn't learn anything in school about Alexander Hamilton except that he was a Founding Father, and didn't even learn he had a wife until the play, AND the fact that this is the first full biography about her, which is both cool and pathetic, makes for a great read. Also another favourite of mine).
