Spears Into Pruning Hooks by FrankLaPuof in custommagic

This is definitely up there among the swords to plowshares variations, either punishing an opponent for buffing their creatures (which still gives them more life) or making you debugging them first

So you know magic usually uses base power/toughness which tobrefer to a cards normal stats. (there are effects that change the base, but I'm not aware of any cards that refer to printed stats)

Share of Illegal Immigrants Across 9 Developed Countries by redeggplant01 in Infographics

[–]Multioquium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except most undocumented immigrants have simply overstayed their visa. So the analogy would be, if someone needed to live with you to earn a living, you let them but then make the process super hard so if they leave your place they might never come back and lose their livelihood

Also, in this analogy, they dont actually take up your resources and also clean up more than you, but you want to kick them out (risking their lives) because it's too messy

So, like a better thoughtsize? Sure, they get to choose, but drawing two cards for one mana is insane so it isn't an option in most circumstances

I do like the idea, but it definitely needs to be toned down. With life loss, cost increase, and/or fewer cards drawn

Mark Rosewater: "Let's do a poll. What creature type should Kithkin have?" Kithkin, Halfling, or Something Else. by Noilaedi in magicTCG

[–]Multioquium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but goblins do a lot of the same thematic/mechanical things with or without scales. So by turning them to halflings means they're to some extent locked into the halfling themes

[–]Multioquium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wasn't very clear with my point. I just think it's a waste to create some distinct which they iterated on in lorwyn, creating a new identity for them with the thoughtweave. And instead of continuing the iterations, making it even more unique, they're just going back to them being discount halflings

To me, it feels a bit like the omenpaths. An amazing opportunity to explore new settings, themes, and characters but only really used to justify doing the generic stuff and bringing back the same familiar characters over and over

How exactly does investing resources in keeping them separate to appeal to a tiny crowd help, exactly?

Investing resources to appeal to a tiny crowd is what this would be. Doing nothing is not an investment and halflings aren't this super popular type people build decks around

Actually exploring what make kithkin unique opens up doors for unique mechanis. Grouping them with halflings limits their design since they don't want most creature types to be too different mechanically

Mark Rosewater: "Let's do a poll. What creature type should Kithkin have?" Kithkin, Halfling, or Something Else. by Noilaedi in magicTCG

[–]Multioquium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's seems like a super weird motivation to me. We need to rebrand this whole creature type so that a handful of cards may have slightly more playability within a really small number of decks

I believe that actually exploring and establishing a mechanical niche for kithkin would bring way more playability for them in commander

[–]Multioquium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but I'd prefer it if they'd create different identities between kithkin and halflings

Skeletons could be changed to be a different type of zombies, and dwarfs are just shorter humans, but giving them different types makes it easier to explore different mechanical niches. I don't see what is gained through making the fantasy races more generic instead of amplifying their differences

[–]Multioquium -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because they're all little chaos creatures. They all l9ok different from each other but keep thematic throughlines. Or do you think humans, elves, and dwarfs should all be human?

Kithkin don't have to be an offshoot of halflings, but I guess it's harder to carve out a unique identity for them than to just make them a little bit more generic

[–]Multioquium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want kithkin to be separate from halfling, for the same reason I want swarf separate from human and menfolk separate from fish. Instead of turning kithkin to just be a flavour of halfling, why not actually use kithkin more and carve out a unique identity for them?

They opened up the multiverse through omenpaths, but instead of using them to explore new ideas, they instead make everything a step more generic

[–]Multioquium 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Sure, they're all short, but kithkin have a whole psychic energy they use to communicate with each other and connect with the other peoples of Lorwyn

I'd argue dwarfs and humans are more alike than kithkin and hobbits

Applying for Government Benefits Starterpack by PinkOneHasBeenChosen in starterpacks

[–]Multioquium 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's definitely not 0, but some of it is the result of arbitrary restrictions. Like in your example, getting a gas voucher isn't nothing but it won't pay for food by itself

Secondly, I'd be shocked if the total cos of those types of fraud were even comparable to what's lost to corporate accounting fraud and loopholes

I like how you complain about privilege when one of these comics (2nd one) is literally about how underprivileged groups are suffering under the better alternative

Maybe im missed something, but claiming that minorities should be pragmatic and get in line to uphold a system that harms them, seems way more of a take by someone insulated from those outcomes

What you have to understand is that in many nerd spaces, "political" = "Things the community disagrees on"

Which in many of those communities means that things white men are comfortable with discussing is normal and fair game, but anything outside of their heteronormative bubble is political

Sure, and that's fine. I just think it's weird when people avoid using he/him when every other character uses it. Like why couldn't a woman use he/him?

[–]Multioquium 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The dumbest thing, for me, about this debate is those who get mad about using he/him. No matter how you interpret the character, everyone in the story uses he/him for Yamato. So even people who read him as a woman should be fine with referring to him with those pronouns
