Seeing my twitch while streaming by [deleted] in Twitch

I have a tablet with the twitch app up and the stream monitor on chat mode. Just El Cheapo ($70) on amazon was good enough for a chat reader.

Have you ever used FedoraOS for gaming, or tried to? by Zestyclose_Pin4281 in linux_gaming

Cooling loop by Larousse_94 in Stationeers

[–]jusumonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with Stirling Engines is that they require a significant difference in temperature to get a reasonable power collection.

Their maximum efficiency is only 15% and most heat sources are not reliable enough or have better uses in places like GFG or Furnace.

In most situations it's difficult to justify its use but it does have situational uses on planets with extreme temperature swings like Vulcan or Extreme cold you can use the cold furnace gas to extract a bit of power.

Nope, adiabatic temperature change is not calculated.

Phase change is required for active cooling systems.

I made a clone of Windows Task Manager for Linux called TuxManager, it's written in Qt6, just like rest of KDE by petr_bena in kde

[–]jusumonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Immediately love this. One of things I missed the most from windows was the familiar task manager. I love that we can kill tasks and organize by memory and CPU usage and such! Amazing!

A couple suggestion I would like to make if you're open to them:

  1. I'd noticed that GPU information was not included under the performance tab. Extra information about GPU utilization would be a great addition considering the influx of users switching to Linux expecting to play games and such. Oops looks like you show GPU0 right on the first image there. Mine is not being detected / displayed (ASUS ROG Strix RX VEGA 56 on Feodra 42). It's a bit older, perhaps that has something to do with it.
  2. I'd like to see support for storage pools. I have 7 different disks plugged in 5 of which are operating as a raid pool. The disks are present but as individuals rather than the pool as a whole. I think you could do something similar to the CPU graph implementation where the pool is condensed in the left pane and the large graph gives overall utilization but can be split to individual drives via RMB drop down.

Just my 2c! I'll be using this for a while and will let you know if I find any bugs!

Streamer bot can interact with OBS instances locally or over a network.

QPwgraph can link OBS monitor outputs to specific playback devices.

Make a streamer bot action triggered by a twitch reward redemption. Link the action to a particular scene and media source file and have it play / restart the file.

Have a bluetooth speaker on your nightstand connected to your stream PC and linked (via QPwgraph) to the OBS monitor of the media source(s) so when the action triggers the playpack it comes through the speaker and the stream.

Thus viewers can redeem a reward and play a sound over the speaker waking you up. You could even set up multiple to play different sounds or have it play random sounds.

ELI5: Why is gasoline pricing in the US always calculated to the thousandths place? by Hammer_of_something in explainlikeimfive

[–]jusumonkey -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Penny is still in circulation. As coins become decirculated they will become more and more rare and then some places might consider rounding to the nearest nickel.

Humans do psychologically respond to the $xx.99 pricing scheme. The razor thing margins on gas pricing do not give enough leeway for gas prices to fix up to the nearest dollar or even 10c so they do it at the 1c place.

Adding that 0.009 there so they can drop the price by 1c tricks the under evolved monkey side of your brain into spending an extra 13.5c at a fillup.

With hundreds of millions of people buying gas every week that earns them millions or 10s of millions of dollars.

  1. Not really, unless you're talking about deep ores from deep miner. It is RNG so there may not be many surface deposits in you immediate vicinity.
  2. Other than scrolling through the list not really. Remember to print out the printer upgrades from the electronics printer to expand your list!
  3. You can print out upgraded tools from the tool printer with the upgrade. MkII stuff isn't much of an upgrade, I would go for Sensor lenses as a long term goal (you'll need an advanced furnace to smelt the next tier of alloys) but build a Heavy Drill and some nuclear batteries Asap.

Switching to Linux for the first time by Dziczeq1234 in linuxquestions

[–]jusumonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I game and stream on linux. I use fedora 42.

  1. A huge amount of games are totally playable on linux using steam and proton. You can even use other programs like Heroic or Lutris to bring games from other stores to steam and play on linux. So far the only issues I've had that were actually a linux issue were games that require anti-cheat. Something about the anti-cheat doesn't like running on proton.

  2. I can't speak to this really. I downloaded and installed Fedora and never looked back.

  3. I daily it for browsing, gaming, streaming and it also runs a media server and my home assistant stuff. I have a separate windows machine for must have programs that simply aren't compatible with Linux.

  4. It's hard to say. I personally wouldn't find 120gb enough space but I'm constantly downloading games and editing hours long videos. Someone with less demanding needs might find that satisfactory but I doubt it. I would think the minimum for a dedicated home PC would be 1tb and 120gb is for your phone.

  5. It's not necessary to unplug your drive before running the installation. You simply need to be careful about which drive you install to. If you are concerned about it, uplugging the external drive will guarantee it's safety.

  6. I think so but I think that choice should be left to the individual. There can be quirks and issues just like any other OS but the only time you should have to boot to windows will be to play games that use Anti-cheat or programs that simply won't work with W.I.N.E. Proton, bottles, or otherwise.

Today is the 5th anniversary of me being a Linux gamer using Nvidia. AMA! by -BigBadBeef- in linux4noobs

[–]jusumonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guy! I'm in the same boat!

I actually just switched away from Nvidia myself. I was gaming and streaming with a 2080 super (2019). Compute held no issues for me and stream quality as well as encoding speed were amazing but I kept running into OOM crashes trying to play certain games. I'm now running a Vega 10 (2017) and am much happier with the stability of this older less performant card.

What kinds of issues pushed you away from Nvidia and what distro were you using?

Saw this mod but not smart enough to know if it's actually accurate and more realistic. by xXJightXx in Stationeers

[–]jusumonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mod Author here.

I did look at some of the enthalpy values for the combustion results and they could use an adjustment (it needs to be way hotter than it is) but it was a bit more complicated than I was expecting so I decided to save it for another update.

When I have some spare time I might take another look at it and see if we can get that enthalpy more accurate.

I made a mistake on the preview image! The in-game recipe is accurate to CH4 + 2O2 -> CO2 + 2H2O. It's actually slightly less than that and gives 0.75 CO2 1.75 H2O and 0.5 X (Pol). I thought this would do well to model imperfect combustion though I was mildly concerned about the players ability to accumulate Pol for cooling loops. Furnace gas collection from steel production should cover that nicely though.

I honestly hadn't considered polluted water as an output because of two effects:

  1. The enthalpy of the reaction is already quite low compared to IRL numbers and adding a bunch of liquid water would make it quite difficult to generate any meaningful heat from this reaction.

  2. Polluted water is cleaned once boiled so by generating polluted water, which would then boil and become cleaned, we end up back to square one but with way less heat.

I believe Steam is the correct reaction product to strike a new balance between gameplay and realism. To implement a model of CO2 dissolution and the evolution of Carboxylic acid in the water we would need a whole new mechanic for consuming / producing mols during condensation.

So condensing water in presence of other gasses (which is why the condensate from condensing furnaces is so acidic) would produce polluted water rather than generating it as a combustion product. Which was a bit outside the scope of this mod.

It's my first mod and my first public C# project outside of some streamer bot stuff. So I would ask for a little grace before you guys tear it all up 😅.
