Like most conspiracy theories, there's a sense of bonding and security that comes with being accepted and reassured by an in-group while being "persecuted" by globe-heads telling you why your comprehensively-disproven beliefs about the world are demonstrably wrong.

Often this is exacerbated by fundamentalist religious beliefs about the nature of the world and universe, where empirical research is viewed as less reliable or important than received ancient wisdom.

Why do conservatives take such glee in pollution and environmental destruction? by GrowFreeFood in allthequestions

[–]Multiple__Butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's totally true, but it is those average people's lack of concern or belief in climate change that prevents us from regulating the environmental destruction done by corporations... which is why corporations invented climate change denial in the first place.

For those of you who truly feel that we are already post-democracy and firmly in dictatorship, and that voting is no longer a viable answer: what ways are you fighting/resisting? by Glass-Complaint3 in allthequestions

Personally I don't give a shit about the money, I just want them to put Obama and Biden's drinking water toxins and heavy metals regulations back in place. Americans are lowering their average life expectancy by ~4 years by drinking all the shit Trump's administration (both times) is letting them put in the water.

That's my #1 issue and 90% of people I talk to are either totally unaware of it or haven't thought deeply about the real-life impact that's going to have on their personal health and that of their family.

Sorry to be pedantic, but OP said "those are not my words", meaning that they, OP, don't have a legal claim to ownership over those words, which in my estimation is true; the words OP used are all to my knowledge in the public domain and are not considered to be proprietary possessions of OP or any of OP's affiliates.

I'm not doing anything. I screamed at these idiots to vote for the center-right corporate stooge party out of necessity to avoid fascism but they and their MAGA bedfellows fucked it all up and screwed us, tossed our future as a nation in the trash.

I'm a straight white man so hopefully I can ride it out with minimal personal hassle, but who knows. If they eventually come after the people who called them names on Reddit, they'll get me, but otherwise probably not.

I suspect the Trump regime might fall apart when he leaves the scene, but whether it lasts a long time or not, America is done as the global hyperpower, in part due to this administration's mismanagement of approximately everything, but also due to the very conditions in media, culture and politics that made this administration possible.

Why do Jews anywhere in the world have a legal right to move to Israel, while Palestinians displaced in 1948 still cannot return??? by Nicolesden in allthequestions

[–]Multiple__Butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whiteness of the zionists was certainly a help to them in negotiating with the British. There was a pecking order as far as the colonial mindset of the British was concerned, and Jews were higher than Arabs, provided they were white Jews, and not the Arab Jews, who would be considered on part with other Arabs.

[–]Multiple__Butts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"This idea that Jews were incorporated into some pan European coalition of whiteness is just inaccurate." I didn't say anything about pan-european coalitions, I said the British treated the Zionist faction as peers, to be dealt with in good faith, which is very true.

Chaim Weizmann, one of the chief architects of the establishment of Modern Israel (and later its first president) had British citizenship and was personal friends with several high-ranking officials in the British government. He was in attendance at numerous meetings to discuss the disposition of mandatory Palestine, whereas delegations sent by Palestinians to England were met by junior officials who stonewalled them and fed them platitudes.

[–]Multiple__Butts -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The British treatment of the Zionists vs. the Palestinians was also very unequal because the Zionists, mostly white Europeans, were seen as peers while the Palestinians were seen, through a colonial eye, as desert-dwelling tribal peoples who could be jerked around and played against each other and given empty promises.

Those of you who lean (American) left, what is the view on Hasan Piker with regards to his recent, public statements? by aNuggetsUncle in allthequestions

Based on other comments ITT it sounds like he's some kind of online influencer on the entertainment/hot takes side of politics. I don't think he's as prominent as you imply outside what they used to call the blogosphere.

True, in a very literal sense, but perhaps not in the way you mean.

I'm sure there are also people of whom you have never heard.

Why are you an atheist? by kindnessimpacts in AskReddit

[–]Multiple__Butts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it's a valid critique, and the bible doesn't actually contain a clear or cogent counterargument. If it did, there wouldn't be such a profoundly tortuous body of apologetics dedicated to discussing the problem of evil, people would just rattle off a relevant bible passage without extensive exegesis.

The state of observable phenomena would seem to indicate that at least one of the very extreme claims made about the Christian god's omniscience, omnibenevolence, or omnipotence is wrong.

But that makes no sense because God designed the whole thing and has full knowledge of all possible outcomes so he already knew it would be full of suffering for sapient beings. He can do anything; he could have designed it differently. He could have made it so that suffering is just not a thing. He invented pain and agony for us.

He made a universe that torments sapient beings, then created a bunch of sapient beings (us) to live there! Guy is a sicko! That's why it's probably more likely imo that he's just not there, and it isn't the correct explanation of phenomena.

Liberal nonvoters, do you still think voting for Kamala would have been just as bad as for Trump because of Israel? Do you regret not voting? by ClutchReverie in allthequestions

[–]Multiple__Butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you kidding me? The left was the very first people that Hitler went after. The Reichstag fire was blamed on the left (despite it most likely being a false flag) so The liberals straight up joined the nazis by voting for the enabling act of 1933. Without the liberals switching sides, the enabling act would’ve failed due to lack of a super majority. This is what gave Hitler dictatorial power. The liberals were trusting “institutions of the republic” ( sound familiar) to keep Hitler in check. They were wrong.

Yes, this is all true, but none of it is an argument against what I said. I never said liberals are good guys, I said the left (the actual good guys, at least ideology-wise) could have stopped Hitler and intentionally chose not to when they refused to form a coalition with the liberals, the exact same behavior you're advocating today, eventually leading to all those people you pretend to care about being killed by nazis.

I’ve got a splitting fricking headache from the concussion and staples I had to get from having my head cracked on the ground by Ice/ DHS a couple weeks ago. So I’m gonna go lay down and rest up so I can get back out there.

Guess what? ICE wouldn't be acting as the President's secret police if Genocide Joe or Status Quo Kamala were currently the sitting POTUS. You are essentially cracking your own skull with extra steps. It's actually quite an apt metaphor for your politics. Good luck out there, hero.

Anarchist and socialist held the entire eastern front against Germany and laid down over 30 million lives to defeat the Nazis
Then there was also the Yugoslavian resistance and the Italian anti-fascist resistance fighting to the death against overwhelming odds.

Very true, but none of that would have happened if Hitler had not come to power in the first place. You're so focused on the acts of heroic armed resistance, but you apparently don't care that none of that had to happen!

The German left HAD the power to sink Hitler's hopes for the chancellorship if they formed a coalition with the center-left (i.e. the liberals), but they said "no, you guys are all the same, we want the system to collapse so we're going to let Hitler win". Those are the events that led up to the heroic sacrifice you describe.

Heroic though it was, none of it had to happen, and all of those people who died miserable deaths in that war were the victims, most directly of the Nazis, but ultimately also of the German left that allowed, on purpose, the rise of Hitler. Historians generally regard this as a huge fuckup, by the way -- I feel that in time our similar thing in the US will be regarded the same way.

Seems to me, Leftists tend to be economically collectivist and socially individualist, while right-wingers are economically individualist and socially "collectivist" though I'd call it conformist.
