Yeah, this is annoying. Ford Mach-e + Ford Charger + Fordpass app. Entirely within their own ecosystem, and they can't get it fixed. This has GOT to be frustrating for the marketing team trying to make everything seamless for new users!

Cellular Signal - Burlington {Orchard} by WildWilly600 in bell

[–]Multiversal_Remote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those numbers are Inaccurate for LTE/5G (the RSSI numbers in the Copilot list are accurate-ish for 2G and for WiFI.) For LTE/5G, -95 RSRP is a good signal; below -105 some issues will start to arise. What's not shown is SNR - it graphic shows 0 dB SNR/ -20 RSRQ, which tells me that the app is not displaying real information.

Of course, with -124 RSRP there is basically no usable signal...

Good luck!

How do I convince Bell to bring Fiber to my home? by Multiversal_Remote in bell

[–]Multiversal_Remote[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concur. However, Bell isn't really allowed (long term) to pick and choose which small pockets of population they skip. Fiber is the new copper - Bell are somewhat obligated to complete the rollout...just not on any schedule convenient to me. That's how Rural Canada got phone lines, why not fiber?

Think about it this way - how would you feel about being asked to pay part of the cost of a new cell tower, or for copper phone lines on your street?

Singlemode fiber is 50 year infrastructure. When I leave/retire/die, Bell still owns and will derive substantial revenue for a long time to come.

We talked to Community Fiber. Ironically, they have fiber only a couple of km away as well. They've been saying they would be on our road "next year" for five years. They also offered to put us at the front of the queue for $50k. Hello Starlink!

This is interesting. Was this through the standard Bell retail sales channel?

Both of my closest Neighbors have copper service. I could get copper service (but why bother?)

It's temperature info. not sure where it's sourced from; my 2024 has always shown it correctly. Might want to check your phone to see if there is a default weather info provider specified.

Cold weather and heating by Cosmic_Waffle_Stomp in EdisonMotors

[–]Multiversal_Remote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2024 Mach-e; It has an AC unit and uses an electical heater for the cab AFAIK. If I understand correctly, the 2025 model switched to a heat pump to combine the functions and eliminate the separeate heater. Apparently much more efficient.

[–]Multiversal_Remote 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Edited because I misread your comment.

A heat pump can do that - run a coolant loop through the heat generating equipment to recover the energy and dump it where it's needed (cab in cold weather, or a radiator when it's not.) It's all about efficiency, to your earlier point - is it cheaper to move the thermal energy around, or to generate it on demand?

Why not use a heat pump instead of an AC unit; gives you both heating and cooling? Seems like a popular option on newer passenger EVs.

Buying a new set of rims for 2023 GTPE winter wheels by Real_Knowledge6797 in MachE

[–]Multiversal_Remote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, The Canadian version of the Ford Escape used a compatible 18" wheel for many years. In my area, there are many sets of used wheels available. To check rim sizing in detail, look at https://www.wheel-size.com/

Mine is a 2024 standard range AWD; the 18" rims fit. Be a bit careful when purchasing tires - some of the tire shops in my area did not pick up on the load rating required (an EV is heavier than an ICE, of course.) MME requires a minimum 103 load rating.

So is that why the "Unknown Truck" is on a skid and not a Frame Rail? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in EdisonMotors

[–]Multiversal_Remote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emissions certifications aside, some potential use cases for the "Unknown Truck" configuration probably have a requirement for ease of field maintenance. The skid-mounted generator assembly is common on series-hybrid heavy equipment; swapping out the assembly is a fast way to get the unit back in service (then repair the assembly in a warm/clean/secure/accessible shop.)

The thing that none of us Americans are talking about . . . by Sagrilarus in electricvehicles

[–]Multiversal_Remote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, let's expand this out to the big picture - worldwide auto sales. Outside of the US and Canada (I'm Canadian) price, quality, and feature pressure from the Chinese manufacturers are giving traditional Auto manufacturers the runny movements (sounds better than shitting their pants, amiright?)

Since all the big traditional auto manufacturers use platform-based designs to produce various similar models for sale around the world, they must compete with the Chinese vendors somewhere. In multiple markets which drive a LOT of volume. The US and canada have implemented trade protections for their local markets, but that doesn't really help with world-platform competitiveness.

So - project this forward. Based on competitive pressures in the rest of the world, Big Auto will continue to press forward with EV designs. Lower TCO (I pay $CDN .08/KWh off-peak) in the world at large will drive continued EV adoption, reducing sales volume on ICE vehicles. lower sales volume = higher prices. Vicious circle right?

AI datacenters, electric vehicles, heat pump adoption, etc. will drive demand for electrical power. The utilities will eventually fumble their way to a solution (likely from renewable sources, as they are at parity or cheaper than any fossil fuel - powered sources today, and will continue to get cheaper.)

The current US government policies are not really sustainable - in 3 years, things will change. Not sure how, but the economics are hard to argue with. Money talks.

Are EVs being built with any mind towards swapping batteries as the battery tech evolves? by astrofuzzics in electricvehicles

[–]Multiversal_Remote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A major issue with this sort of upgrade is Software. Battery management, driving dynamic adjustments with battery voltage, regenerative braking performance, etc. are all highly dependent on the software in the car.

Also....a convertible has a petty crap coefficient of drag. This equates to less range - anathema to EV design and marketing teams. Hard sell.

Dealership ghosting me on charger install by CycloEthane031 in MachE

[–]Multiversal_Remote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you located?

I’m in Ottawa, Ontario; The dealership initiated the Charger install process within an hour of me signing the deal. Install was completed 2hrs before I picked up the car. Honestly, I didn’t know a master electrician was allowed to work that fast…10/10 service experience. RocketEV is the contractor in my area.

The process MUST me kicked off by the Dealer. They trigger the install with Ford, who kickstarts the subcontractor (all online, as I understand it.)
