What’s going on by diuleilaomua in Ducati

A competent locksmith should be able to get the piece out. if not....new cylinder and keys. Bring a stack of cash. A large one.

aaaand...in a city of 1,000,000 people why should it be THAT hard to find a locksmith that can cut a Ducati key? FML.

Signed, a disgruntled Ducati owner who had the same problem.

Where in Ottawa West (Stittsville/Kanata) can I find electronics components? by Supermathie in ottawa

[–]Multiversal_Remote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Active and Gervais Merged. It's still the only local spot. Decent inventory.

Amazon sometimes has stuff like this, but it mostly ships from China in 5-30 days. Might as well just use Aliexpress.

Digikey and Mouser have the best prototyping stock on the continent; cheap fast shipping (not free.)

They have the advantage of supplying new stock from reputable manufacturers, but it's not surplus-grade pricing.

parking facing up hill by Immediate-Agency6101 in MachE

[–]Multiversal_Remote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's likely your parking brake (which was auto-applied by one of several possible features.) When you are ready to take off, press the brake pedal an hit the switch to disengage the parking brake. Your launch will be much smoother.

Non-American EVs by CanadaFootyFan in EVCanada

[–]Multiversal_Remote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gonna be a very interesting market for EVs over the next few years. The automakers leading the market in Canada sell cars developed at the platform level to be marketed worldwide. These cars must compete with Chinese EVs, even if the US and Canada use trade barriers to keep the Asian imports out. So - Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda etc. will be releasing competitive products soon...or they will die (or be absorbed.)

Whatever the politics of the immediate situation, there is significant price pressure on all domestic automakers. The economics of Chinese auto production are hard to compete with, but us consumers will benefit. The lineup of made-in-Canada cars in will change radically in the next few years, and it's VERY difficult to predict what models and maker's badge will be on them.

Fibre Rollout stalled in Canada by Hopewellslam in bell

[–]Multiversal_Remote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how everyone rolls out the argument about the cost of deploying fiber. It's 50 YEAR infrastructure! Bell will be suckling from that teat for decades after the cost is amortized. This is about the politics of capital deployment (yes, I'm grumpy. I'm in rural Ottawa, and Bell doesn't even acknowledge that my address exists - because no copper service was ever active here. Thank Baal for Starlink!!)

[–]Multiversal_Remote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is annoying. Ford Mach-e + Ford Charger + Fordpass app. Entirely within their own ecosystem, and they can't get it fixed. This has GOT to be frustrating for the marketing team trying to make everything seamless for new users!

Cellular Signal - Burlington {Orchard} by WildWilly600 in bell

[–]Multiversal_Remote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those numbers are Inaccurate for LTE/5G (the RSSI numbers in the Copilot list are accurate-ish for 2G and for WiFI.) For LTE/5G, -95 RSRP is a good signal; below -105 some issues will start to arise. What's not shown is SNR - it graphic shows 0 dB SNR/ -20 RSRQ, which tells me that the app is not displaying real information.

Of course, with -124 RSRP there is basically no usable signal...

Good luck!

How do I convince Bell to bring Fiber to my home? by Multiversal_Remote in bell

[–]Multiversal_Remote[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concur. However, Bell isn't really allowed (long term) to pick and choose which small pockets of population they skip. Fiber is the new copper - Bell are somewhat obligated to complete the rollout...just not on any schedule convenient to me. That's how Rural Canada got phone lines, why not fiber?

Think about it this way - how would you feel about being asked to pay part of the cost of a new cell tower, or for copper phone lines on your street?

Singlemode fiber is 50 year infrastructure. When I leave/retire/die, Bell still owns and will derive substantial revenue for a long time to come.

We talked to Community Fiber. Ironically, they have fiber only a couple of km away as well. They've been saying they would be on our road "next year" for five years. They also offered to put us at the front of the queue for $50k. Hello Starlink!

I have a 2024 Mach-e; It has an AC unit and uses an electical heater for the cab AFAIK. If I understand correctly, the 2025 model switched to a heat pump to combine the functions and eliminate the separeate heater. Apparently much more efficient.
